Set in one of the world’s most beautiful cities we are located so close to the The Sydney Opera House, The Harbour Bridge, Barangaroo, Anzac Bridge, Darling Harbour, and Casino, Aquarium, Chinatown & Sydney’s CBD. Balmain today is one of Sydney’s’ most sought after Inner City Habourside locations with an enviable, friendly family village lifestyle.

Formally a waterfront working man’s suburb, Balmain now has a gentrified village atmosphere with highly sought after real estate due to its traditional Victorian Terrace houses, cottages and proximity to the City. It also boasts some of Sydney’s finest views. By Australian standards, Balmain is steeped in history as it is one of Sydney’s and Australia’s first settlement suburbs.

Our property is architecturally redesigned, a decorated Victorian house positioned between Hampton Villa and Ewenton House, two of Balmain’s finest historic mansions. It has it’s own unique Italian inspirations with its Ochre Tuscan lime washed garden walls mounted by young espaliered fruit trees and the unique Positano inspired rooftop terrace and pergola topped by Bouganvillea, to offer both flowers and shade during your daytime summer alfresco dining or while lazing in the hammock. Lights at night make it just as enjoyable without the need to seek relief in the shade but to delight in the joy of the City night lights or Sydney’s world famous Summer fireworks. A wood fired Pizza oven is located in the garden. Inside there‘s a sophisticated colour palette, traditional style furnishings, polished Kauri and Baltic Pine floorboards throughout, high 12’ ceilings, and tasteful design features. The buffed and polished terracotta tiled kitchen floor is complemented by a large family kitchen which has generous white Carrara Marble bench tops and is well equipped with electric appliances, dishwasher, full upright refrigerator/ freezer, cast iron gas stove and oven with rustic tables and a massive Dresser at its heart. Bifold doors open to one of four external entertaining area and Garden. All bases are covered here because this is the heart of, not just one, but two passionate cook’s. Many fresh organic herbs and vegetables are always ready and available from the garden which of course is on an automatic watering system. You are welcome to use any of the food and spices we leave in the pantry at no extra charge. All of the staples will be there, bonus when you first arrive.

The house is fully furnished including hotel quality white linen and towels, china, glassware, flatware and cookware. Set on two levels, three, if you count the rooftop terrace. On the ground level is the kitchen, a combined pantry and laundry with WC, then the formal dining room and elegant living/lounge room with French doors leading on to a front patio with unobstructed City and Habour views. Both rooms have white Carrara marble surround fire places fueled by Natural Gas. Upstairs are the 3 bedrooms each furnished traditionally and complemented with original brass bed. There is an ensuite bathroom off the rear bedroom. Both front and rear bedrooms have sizable wrap around balconies offering extensive views to The Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Anzac Bridge, Darling Harbour and the Sydney City skyline itself with cruise liners berthing directly opposite the house. In summer you can expect some relief from the heat at about 11 am each day as the cross breezes arrive off Sydney Harbour.

In the event that you love the sound of this house but need another bedroom for the Nanny, teenager, parent or grandparent who prefer their own space but you need them safe and close at hand, we can help here too as the house does have a stunning self-contained unit (separate rental : VRBO ref 360717) that can be combined with the house rental or as a stand-alone option. If this sounds like it fits your requirements you would need to bring it to our attention so we could negotiate its inclusion during your stay.

PLEASE NOTE. If you wish to have the house to yourself and for us NOT to rent the studio to a third party you must inform us prior to confirming your booking. There is a common garden and entry. Your rate would be adjusted by negotiation.

I have worked in the airline industry for the past 31 years travelling overseas every 7-10 days. I retired in April 2012. My expectations for accommodation and the price you pay for it are well measured by the countries I have travelled to. You will not be disappointed with the facilities on hand.

Technically I live in Sydney Australia but travel constantly. I think it is fair to say I have an idea of services and appointments required for the regular traveller without having to pay through the nose for it. I hate that. If you do too then give it a go and register your interest and someone will get back to you. Concerned about renting online? I am too so check the testimonials...it always helps with reassurance and gives an insight to expectations met.. I am contactable by cell phone, however you must ask if you want my number as I change sim cards to suit the country I am visiting....or I can skype you or you can skype me.

This is a great home that is well situated for seeing Sydney. The host are marvelous, very kind and helpful. One family member required minor medical care and the host made all the arrangements and gave her a lift to the doctors office.
Be sure to save time to explore the local community. The cafe are great and the area is quite interesting.
Sydney proper is 10 minutes or so by a well run fairy.
The house is full of charm and very fun to stay in!
Highly recommend.

The house was perfect for our five night stay. We especially enjoyed the wonderful views, the terraces, & the garden. The owners are very pleasant to work with, and went above and beyond to set us up with delicious wood fired pizzas cooked in the garden pizza oven. The location is convenient and it was easy to get around the city. We truely had a wonderful stay.

We were a family of five, all adults. The house is tastefully decorated and had everything we needed, even down to washing powder, plus lots of space. It is close to the ferry to Central Quay. The views from the roof terrace are stunning, looking over to the Harbour Bridge. Balmain is a lovely village with great restaurants and bars and a lively atmosphere, we much preferred eating in Balmain to the city. This was our second visit to Sydney and we all said we felt we had properly experienced Sydney by choosing an alternative to a city centre hotel.

Amazing house - absolutely wonderful - 5 stars!!

The house itself was absolutely stunning, a visual treat! The decor was a mix of old English/Victorian and Spanish and each room had it's own unique style. We were a group of 8 and found the house perfect for the number of guests, there were multiple bathrooms and we rented the attached studio which gave the couple in the group some privacy. All the bedrooms were quiet and very comfortable - I am a fussy sleeper and had no issues sleeping here at all, the beds were like clouds! There is a beautiful rooftop terrace and a balcony at the front of the house with plenty of seating, a great place to chill out alone or to have drinks/meals with the group. I don't have a bad thing to say about this house and would recommend it for families and groups of friends. There are a few stairs so it wouldn't be ideal for people with disabilities or the elderly, but perfect for anyone else. Lyn (the owner) was a brilliant communicator and happily responded to any questions that I had, and when I mentioned what a light sleeper I was she offered to provide me with chamomile tea! Amazing service! The price was very reasonable too, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone! It is also really close to the main street in Balmain, which is full of cafes and shops, we walked there each day and it only took us 10-15 minutes.

After our Melbourne Relocation agent let us down, I found this charming home and dealt directly with the helpful owners. Balmain location and property was a perfect introduction to Sydney for our family. After 4 weeks we did not want to leave! We highly recommend staying in this gorgeous, comfortable home. The area is friendly, great for walks, many parks, restaurants, lots of young families, & water views at every turn & from every room in the house. We'll be sure to return to Balmain during our 3 year stay in Sydney & are grateful to you both for helping us settle in & making us feel so welcome. see you for coffee again soon.

An eye for detail is obvious in this very comfortable and relaxing home. The amenities & winter comforts surpassed even those of our Port Douglas 5 star experience! Thanks for the travel tips you gave us when we extended our stay a couple extra days. We loved Sydney and hope to return. You have a beautiful place here! thanks again.

We arrived at the house & studio today, and we are absolutely loving the space. We dined at "Spice I Am" this evening and explored the immediate area a little. Tomorrow, we'll be climbing the Harbour Bridge and venturing into The Rocks and CBD.
We appreciate the charm and convenience of the home so far. Everything is wonderful and we expect an outstanding week ahead!

Exquisite location to experience all Sydney has to offer!!! Wonderful views from all windows and decks. Great indoor/outdoor flow. Perfect layout for sharing with friends and family. Lovely, creative, comfortable and functional décor. Very well maintained. Nice walks to ferry, buses, centre of Balmain, lovely shops and restaurants. Best of all, owners have wealth of local (and international!) travel knowledge and go well out of their way to be helpful.

Very highly recommended! Will surely be back.
