Enjoy your own private beach with no other houses in sight. Open meadows, trees, river and stream -- this secluded yet accessible cabin has it all. Warm and welcoming three bedroom, 2 full baths, sleeping porch, open kitchen with modern appliances, hot tub, gas grill, outdoor fire-pit, and fine furnishings throughout.

In addition, the property has 27 acres of private beach access to the Shavers fork river. The house is engulfed in a narrow band of trees and surrounded by meadows and glades for walks (bring long pants and socks to explore). It is also situated just 1/4 mile upstream from the one-million acre Monongahela National Forest.

The house features natural wood-plank paneling and a well appointed kitchen, wireless internet, 2 televisions with satellite TV and DVD players, and a stereo/home theater system. The kitchen is open to the dining area, perfect for social cooking. The sunroom has seating for dining or board games with a full view of the stream so you can enjoy the outdoors even in inclement weather.

This cozy ground-level home sleeps 8 in beds and 12 including the living room and sun porch (the latter in warm months or for the polar bears in your group). About Larisa

Carl and Larisa got married and moved to Elkins, WV in 2000. Larisa moved from DC, and Carl moved from VA. Each had prior roots in WV and longed to return. They now live in Elkins just 20 minutes from the 'All Get Out' riverside vacation rentals.

Larisa purchased this house in 2001
Why Larisa chose Elkins

The location is ideal -- just far enough out to be immersed in the natural surroundings, but only 25 minutes from a full-service grocery store, movie theater, Davis and Elkins College, Randolph County Community Arts Center, antique shopping, and a YMCA. It is an hour from highly-rated golf or skiing. Spring and summer bring wonderful fishing, swimming, floating, and boating in the river; winter is great for cross-country skiing on the property or nearby, and alpine skiing is less than an hour's drive. Fall's foliage is not to be missed as the house is engulfed in trees and adjacent to the 1 million acre Monogahela National Forest, wonderful for hiking right out your door. Don't miss nearby Elkins to dine at a variety of restaurants, enjoy free exhibits at the Community Arts Center, and ride the scenic trains on the Durbin and Greenbrier Railroad. Davis and Elkins College is just 20 minutes away where you can enjoy live music and Appalachian arts at the internationally renowned 5-week long Augusta Festival. The Forest Festival every fall is a big draw, with carnival rides and almost two weeks of activities.

What makes this house unique

In 2001 Carl and Larisa were fortunate to have the opportunity to buy this lovely acreage on the banks of the Shavers Fork River from a family friend, just next door to the cabin they've owned since 1995 (VRBO #317752). Since that time they have made several improvements, while keeping the original character that the builder, a mill owner, had created in handmade wormy chestnut kitchen cabinets, exceptional stonework, and plank poplar paneling throughout. You can easily hear the creek flowing behind the house as the summer night breezes keep you cool.

We enjoyed our visit and found the property to be very cozy and comfortable. The sleeping porch afforded a great view for daytime activities and the living room was a cozy retreat. The owner was helpful and accomodating, and the people in nearby Elkins were friendly and welcoming. Our two dogs loved the freedom to roam and explore. I would definitely recommend this property as a great retreat.

The cabin was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with cooking utensils, beautiful tableware, plenty of newer cookware and newer appliances. We could have cooked a feast. The surroundings were more beautiful than the description on the website. I wish we could have stayed longer and explored more of the area. Elkins is a very friendly town. We would recommend Wayside United Methodist Church on Isner Creek Road for a friendly place of worship. Overall, nice cabin, nice area, plenty to do!

Great Summer Gateway to WV mountains

The house was awesome -- well maintained, exactly as described in the write-up, in a great location away from any crowds. We had a great time; hiking and biking in the area; tubing and swimming in the river. But I must admit, it was the first summer vacation where we were hoping FOR rain so the river would rise and we could tube again! The owners provided excellent information about activities, restaurants and the general area and were very responsive to any of our questions or issues.

Beautiful Relaxing Retreat

This has to be one of the most beauiful locations ever. Despite the bad storm in WV that knocked out power, we made our trip. The owners were so graceful, they offered to refund our entire stay with deposit because there was no electricity, but we went anywayy. And we don't regret it at all!! The house is perfect for a family of 5, such as us, and the location is quiet and relaxing. We loved the river, and spent most of our days there rafting and swimming. The river is private and serene, not overrun with people like you might find in other places. Make sure you bring a good innertube, so you can do some rafting through the rapids! This is a great place for kids! The location is also close to several attractions such as Seneca Caves and Blackwater Falls, which we visited as well. I highly recommend this location for a relaxing vacation with the family.

Fantastic stay! Larisa has thought of everything. I have stayed in numerous rental homes in the past and this one by far had everything we could have wanted. Everything was organized and easy to find. The fans and trees kept us nice and cool even though the temperatures were in the high eighties. The kids(4) all had a great time exploring the 27 acres, riding bikes and going for walks and the dog loved runnung around all 27 acres. The bed on the back porch was hit. There is plenty to do in the area and within a short drive. We are all talking about when we will be back again. Thanks Larisa for everything!

Great Getaway Cabin

Submitted: May 23, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
We enjoyed our stay here very much and would recommend it to friends. The cabin is just as described if not better. Sleeping porch and woodstove are nice features.
Everything was very clean and tidy. One minor complaint with the water temp was fixed the next morning.
We also appreciated the restaurant suggestions in town which were all very good.
We drove to the Dolly Sods wilderness and Seneca Rocks for hiking. They are around an hour
and a half away.
The cabin itself is pretty secluded and in the "sticks" but has cable/Dish network and Wifi..so you have the best of both worlds. Cell phone reception was OK for iphones but I had to walk around outside to find it on an older phone.
The only drawback was the condition of the 3 miles of county gravel road leading to the cabin. The road crews were in the process of fixing the numerous potholes which we were told happens every spring . Visitors later in May shouldn.t have a problem

Best cabin -

we have stayed at several wkend cabins in WV and none have compared to this one in cabin cleanliness, cabin organization, cabin amenities and on-property scenery.

No sneezing or allergic reaction in this cabin at all, not even from beddings, sheets, linings, towels. Very organized house. Very clean not even any other pet's fur despite being a pet friendly cabin. Very safe area with very manageable terrain for both our dogs even the small dog. Property location is prime, beautiful landscape with river behind, land infront, forest to the sides and neighbors far far away. The kitchen is full servicing great for feeling like home away from home, we are very impressed and we will be returning soon for early summer with icebox of nice food for cooking.

Nice secluded cabin right outside Elkins

My boyfriend and I stayed at the cabin for 3 nights October of this year. The cabin was nice and secluded off the road a ways. There were dear in the front yard every morning. It was very well maintained and clean. New-er LED TV with satellite (though we only used it once since we were out or by the campfire outback), comfy living room, and a kitchen with everything you would need for cooking. It was nice having 2 bathrooms as well. The beds were comfy and clean. And I loved the paintings and pictures, some I think were done by Larisa.

We loved being right next to the river and there were some trails near-by that we walked to. It was close to many area attractions (Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob) and less than 10 minutes from Elkins. I think the best part was how Larisa wrote a personal guide to parks, trails, food, etc in the area. We used it every day in helping plan our activities. We spent most of the day out hiking, but it was nice and relaxing coming back to the cabin at night.

We had a great time and would stay there again!

Great experience! Property owner was very responsive and accommodating. It was really nice to be able to bring our dogs. They had a great time running in the field in front of the house and playing in the stream behind the house. Everything was neat and clean, beds were comfortable, and kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies.

Wonderful GetAway Spot!

Spent a wonderful Memorial Day weekend here. Parents plus six "twenty-somethings" immediately felt comfortable upon arrival. Lots of wood & earthtones give it a very warm feeling. Before coming we thought we would take day trips to hike Seneca Rocks and Blackwater Falls, but enjoyed being by the river so much that we never ventured past local trails! Spent the weekend sunning, reading, hiking, innertubing, looking for fossils, making s'mores, star-gazing and just enjoying each other's company. The river was an enjoyable 5 minute walk through the woods. Was possible to wade across with use of innertubes. Would bring our kayaks next time. Plenty of room for all of us and it really is lovier than the photos show. We could have easily added another 2 people. Prepared all meals there; kitchen was fairly well-stocked with equipment/utensils. It was also nice to have laundry facilities on site. Be sure to drive up to nearby Bickles Knob and climb the tower for an amazing panaramic view of the area, and check out local hiking. Larisa was very nice to work with, responding quickly to all our communications. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to return ourselves!
