Visit the little red cabin, a cozy and eclectic writer’s home in the woods, just a 5-minute walk to the village of Phoenicia. No need for a car, the Trailways bus brings you to the village, and your feet carry you the rest of the way. This 1-bedroom cabin is perfect for a single person or couple and a well-behaved dog.
Built as a rustic hunting cabin in the 50s, it has been renovated with wood and ceramic tile, and decorated with traditional and contemporary art. Now it is one large (600 sf) space with a vaulted ceiling and skylights. On cold or rainy days, hang out in front of the woodstove set into a beautiful cobble-stone chimney, or luxuriate in the Mexican-themed bathroom, looking out into the woods as you soak in the tub. Mountain and river views are afforded from the bedroom and living room areas.
Other features include a deck with Adirondack-style chairs and table, board games, a fully-equipped kitchen in which to whip up any confection from cappuccino to cupcakes, fresh bed linens and bath towels, WiFi, unlimited phone calls, ceramic tile, and hardwood floors. There is a queen-size air mattress available for a third guest. The yard is fenced for your dog’s delight and your peace of mind.
The cabin sits across a small street from the confluence of the Stony Clove and Esopus creeks. Nearby, enjoy hiking through thousands of acres of Forever Wild mountains, tubing, biking, antiquing, exploring mountain villages, farmers markets, or yoga, to name a few attractions. Fifteen minutes to Belleayre, Hunter and Woodstock.
Please be aware that this is a cabin in the woods and can have animal visitors, such as the occasional mouse or ant.
Trailways bus from Port Authority stops in the village, which is a 5-minute walk to the house. Driving time from New York is about 2.5 hours.

I'm a writer & editor. During the 10 years I lived at the cabin, I was a reporter for the local newspaper.
I was lucky enough to inherit the cabin from my father.
The cabin is simple, cheerful and relaxing. Walk to the village in 5 minutes or hang out on a boulder to watch the mighty Esopus creek rush by.
