Good property, but questionable management
We stayed at this rental property for our wedding, along with our parents and wedding party. While the house and the property are very spacious and accommodated our needs in that department, there were a few major problems with how we were treated.
When we showed up, the pool was dirty and the lawn was not mowed. They offered to do these things for us midway through our stay, but we ended up doing them on our own so that we could make good use of our time there. The owner still showed up, and was at the property for well over half a day, doing yard work and maintenance that should have been done in advance.
Even though I asked for a list of check-out duties, we were never given any. We did our best and I honestly felt really good about how we left the house and the property (including a mowed lawn and a clean pool!). Nonetheless, it has now been nearly two months since our stay, and we have yet to receive ANY of our large deposit back. The only explanation I have received was a voicemail in which the owner listed moved patio furniture, "suspected" extra guests, and a couple other trivial things as reasons why we may not receive all of our deposit back. In no way has it been justified to me why they are apparently keeping ALL of the deposit, and they have not returned my follow-up phone calls.
We had a good time at this location - but mostly because of the company we had with us. If you rent this property, I recommend budgeting in the large deposit as money you will not get back.
Owner's Response: These guests were the worst kind. They came to have a wedding, and must have had over 100 guests. They slept in all 26 beds, so we know there were more than the standard # of guests, and they did not pay for those extra guests. They left trash EVERYWHERE, moved/broke furniture, and did not clean a thing. As the bride and groom are busy with moving on to their honeymoon, I guess they were counting on others to do the cleaning, but they did not. The lawn had been mowed 5 days prior to their arrival, so it had been 7 days prior to the actual wedding. The pool is not heated or in service during the off-season, although we pay a cleaning service to come once a week. The pool is surrounded by trees, and will get leaves blown into it over the course of a week. These were the first guests to not receive their deposit back, and were very unhappy about that fact. In all, we have to spend an extra 10 hours cleaning, as well as having to repair/replace furniture, dishes, glasses, and other damage. As you can see from our other references, this is a unique situation.
