This house was the Country Living Magazine's 25th Anniversary House of the year for 2009. It was also featured on the DIY (do it yourself) network as a design build project between the architect, builder, and designers from Country Living Magazine. The house has been modified to respond to comments we have received from past renters and hope that recent additions make the house even better than before.

You can see further house details at www.countryliving.com and type in the search box '2009 house of the year'.

This property is approximately 150 yards to the ski slopes ('sawmill glades' in the south mountain area of the resort). Access to the slopes is very easy however there is about a 2% incline back to the house. Ski access is by natural snow only - which the last two years has not been a problem, Snowshoe has an annual snowfall of 180'+.

Four wheel drive is highly recommended - this is 'Snowshoe'!

The cleaning fee includes all linens and hot tub/sauna maintenance. The 12% tax is required of the state and county. We provide Direct TV and wireless internet via Frontier. Because Snowshoe is a remote area with extreme weather there are times the TV and internet are disrupted. In this case we as the homeowner will do everything in our power to get Direct TV/Frontier to respond however we are not held liable for any interruption of service.

House had a lot of space, 4 floors, hot tub, sauna, elevator, huge master bedroom with an incredible shower. It was also close enough to the slopes that we could walk over and head right down.

I was impressed by the pictures, however they did the house NO JUSTICE whatsoever! We were blown away to say the least. It was more than we could've ever asked for. We had 16 adults with 2 small children and were comfortable and cozy. Everything you need to feel right at home; large spacious kitchen, plenty of room for everyone to relax and enjoy the fireplace and room for everyone with family style meals. The elevator, sauna, and hot tub made it that much more enjoyable! Owners were more than helpful and accomodating. We didn't want to leave! You won't be let down if you choose this property, it made our vacation!

Great house, but some disappointments

This vacation rental home is spacious and beautiful. The location is beautiful and close to the slopes although it is a bit difficult to walk with all the ski gear. The Soaring Eagle lift must be open if you don't want to drive and pay parking elsewhere on the mountain. It is a good option for a large group or family. Plenty of room and plenty of shower space. We were disappointed, however, with the difficulty we had contacting the owner when we arrived and there was not hot water and limited heat on the lower 2 floors. There is no cell phone service on the mountain, which we knew ahead of time. But none of the owner phone numbers given to us could be dialed from the house phone either, because they were long distance. We finally were able to connect with a 1-800 number to use a credit card after there was no response to email requests for direction about how to fix the heat and water issues. Once we were able to talk to the owner on the phone, he was helpful. The other disappointment we had is that we repeatedly found mice droppings in the kitchen and on furniture and beds. I hesitate to even write that here, but feel obligated since I emailed the owners about it and did not get any response to that information. We did not expect to have to check our bags for mice before going home. Good potential, but some issues that need attention.
Owner's Response: hi nancy.
thank you for your review of our property. cell service is very limited at snowshoe, the best way to contact us upon arrival is email. when the 800 number showed up on our phones we thought it was a solicitation call.
the hot water is still a mystery to me. i was at the house on the day prior to your arrival and it was working fine, i'm glad the fix was simple and immediate.
yes the auxiliary/back up heat on the lower two floors was our only source at that time. that is intended as back up heat only. i learned that the furnace located on the main floor went out on the 19th and went to the house to see what the problem was. i had contacted our heating and air vendor that same day and had him put us on the schedule as an emergency repair. the unit is only 5 years old and the part necessary is still under warranty, however the holiday and recent snow kept him from getting to the house until the day after christmas.
as for the mice issue, upon receiving your email, i immediately contacted our exterminator and asked for addition mice treatment services along with an emergency visit to remedy the issue.
i do apologize for these issues and would ask that you consider our property for your next visit to snowshoe.
thank you and have a great new year.
