During summer the home is cool, dry and breezy and you will want to live on the open decks soaking in the sun and gazing at pristine Lake Tahoe. In winter it is warm and cozy with wood-burning fireplace and views of the snow-covered Sierras. Because it is away from Rt. 28 and other busy roads it is quiet all year round. Important convenience: Little Pine Lodge has just two floors to save you steps…many other hillside homes have 3 or 4 levels, making routine tasks like unloading groceries a chore.
Little Pine Lodge is well stocked with extra linens & blankets, cleaning supplies, sports equipment, games and books. Recreational opportunities abound: the Lake Tahoe area is known for world-class golf, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, and kayaking. Close by are nearly a dozen ski areas including Diamond Peak, Mt. Rose, Heavenly, Northstar and Squaw Valley, site of the 1960 Winter Olympics (record snowfall for 2011 was over 700” at the peaks). South Lake Tahoe, Virginia City and Yosemite National Park are within easy driving distance. Crystal Bay is just 40 minutes from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport. Winter guests please note that a 4WD vehicle is required and there is space for only 2 vehicles because roadside snowbanks limit parking...roadside parking is illegal. They say the sun shines in Lake Tahoe 300 days per year so you are likely to have good vacation weather during any season.
Historic Crystal Bay is a small community perched on the steep, rocky shelf rising from North Lake Tahoe. Narrow roads weave through seemingly impassible terrain dodging huge cedars, firs and pines and most homes here have a great view of the lake because of the sharp incline. Crystal Bay has three operating casinos, many restaurants and it is home to the famous Cal-Neva Lodge once owned by Frank Sinatra. The California state line is less than a mile west of Little Pine Lodge and Incline Village is a mile to the east. Guests have access to Incline Village facilities for a reasonable fee, including beaches and recreation center.
Little Pine Lodge is located on a terraced end-of-street lot and is surrounded by natural stone walls, aspen trees and massive pines. This home is located close to casinos and restaurants including our favorite, The Soule Domain. Enjoy your stay!

We're from Ohio and we love our home state but, frankly, we get more than our share gray skies and humidity. I used to travel a lot and one day I was in Reno on business. It was sunny but HOT outside and someone suggested I drive up to Lake Tahoe and have a look around...I had always heard about Tahoe but I didn't even realize it was nearby. Anyway, I jumped into my rental car and started driving. About half way up the mountain I opened up the windows & turned off the AC. By the time I reached the pass it was so cool that I actually put up the windows briefly. Well, if you have been to the Lake you know what I experienced the first time I saw Tahoe. What an awesome sight. I drove around that deep blue Lake and just soaked in the beauty, the typical sunny, dry, cool 75 degree weather, the mountains (still snow-capped in mid-summer) and all the visitors engaged in hiking, golf and sports of all kinds. I called my wife, Sally, that day and told her that I'd found a place she had to experience with me. We bought our first house the following year (1996) and we found Little Pine Lodge in 2009.
We really enjoy doing things outside, especially with our family. The ocean is fun but about a week of the salt, heat and humidity is plenty for us. They say the sun shines 300 days per year at Lake Tahoe. So the sun basically shines most days during all 4 seasons and summer temperatures are typically cool and dry. In winter if it isn't snowing the sun is usually shining. It just makes for great outdoor activities year round.
If you have been to Lake Tahoe you already know what I am talking about. If you are planning a visit for the first time, you are in for the experience of your life.
Since we are from Ohio, we enjoy traveling to the Sierras. The landscapes, architecture, weather, just about everything is different from our home. We also think it's important to get the 'feeling' of the places we visit. That's why we were attracted to Little Pine Lodge...this house makes you feel like you're in the mountains. The overstuffed furniture, massive stone fireplace, open beamed ceiling, alpine decorations and of course the huge picture windows overlooking Lake Tahoe remind you that you are really in the mountains. It creates the atmosphere necessary for a relaxing and memorable getaway...and no matter how often we visit this place we depart feeling better about ourselves and the world.
TIP OF THE DAY: Always spend the few extra dollars to rent a home with views of Lake Tahoe. It is worth it! Your family will thank you for it!
LATEST IMPROVEMENTS: When you visit Lake Tahoe you will spend about 8 hours per day in bed. We have recently made a significant improvement at Little Pine Lodge. Starting November 1, 2013, we have changed the bedding scheme in the two main suites to European high-loft down comforters covered with buttery-soft, 500 thread count cotton sheets and duvets, all freshly laundered for each reservation. The down comforter is as light as a feather, hypoallergenic and warm, and the experience equals what we discovered while visiting upscale Swiss resorts like Davos and Arosa! We think you will find our Cal-king beds to be the most restful and inviting you can imagine. In addition, we now offer improved Wi-Fi speed and HDTV with 4 TVs and 3 DVD players.
