We thoroughly enjoyed the cleanliness, loveliness, and utter privacy of the Bamboo cottage. The location in North Kohala was excellent with the town of Hawi close, as well as excellent hiking, swimming and snorkeling opportunities a short drive away. We especially recommend snorkeling in the Mahukona beach park (which is not really a beach, but provides easy access to clear water with lots of fish), and hiking in the Pololu valley. But there is oh so much more! (check the guidebooks in the cottage for lots of useful information). You'll enjoy it!

My husband and I escaped to this wonderful place last May, 2012, for some rest and replenishment from all of life's responsibilities for 5 days and it was WONDERFUL! We didn't want to leave. The cottage is beautiful, homey and very comfortable. We loved the cross breeze that we could have due to the screened in patio which allowed us to open the front door, bringing wonderful Hawaiian air straight through the cottage and out the back windows. It is definitely hidden and off the beaten track way up on the North part of the Island, so not for people interested in the touristy scene. The tiny yet well stocked kitchen was perfect for meals we wanted to make at home. We loved using the bbq on fresh fish from a local fish market about 20 min south. Wonderful local BBQ place and sushi, as well as shaved ice and fudge. The only con was not being within walking distance of a swimable beach, but still, no regrets. We will definetly be back. We really enjoyed our stay at the Bamboo Cottage. It was well furnished and the stain-glassed work was gorgeous. There were so many thoughtful details taken care of, especially all the snorkeling equipment, cooler, and beach gear. We enjoyed the fruit from the garden. The kitchen was well-equipped, which let us prepare a few meals at the cottage. We also enjoyed many of the restaurants in Hawi and Kaupa'a. The location was a perfect mix of quiet and slow-paced, along with good places to shop, eat, and snorkel/swim. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

We love this place. A great cottage in a wonderful location on Hawaii. Great decor and the VRBO photos don't truly do it justice. Well maintained and clean, just like your own cottage home in paradise. Highly recommended if you want a quiet place in tropical environment away from any crowds. We hopefully will be back.

If you are a couple on a getaway, Bamboo Cottage is for you.

We just got back from the Bamboo Cottage and are missing it already. This place has it all. The cottage sits in a lush, serene garden and is appointed with everything necessary and comfortable and more. We lacked for nothing. The location is one of the prime spots on the island, near the town of Hawi. There is a concentration of outstanding restaurants and galleries in town. One of the best beaches in the world (Hapuna) is just a short 20 minute drive from the cottage. And we didn’t need to rent beach gear as quality equipment is available for guests of the cottage. After we wore ourselves out playing in paradise, we enjoyed the outdoor shower, a sinful delight, and wrapped up in fluffy towels or plush robes. Slept like a baby feeling the trade winds waft through the windows while we were tucked away in the greatest bed. Most mornings were spent on the lanai with fresh fruit and flowers from the garden and a view of the ocean and Maui. Very private, peaceful, and squeaky clean. Jennifer and Jeff have put a lot of thought into making their guests welcome. The photos on the web just don’t do it justice. Will definitely be back!

Our month long stay was ideal in every detail. The accommodations exceptionally well appointed with more than we expected including guide books, beach gear, and even a coffee-press! The setting is beautiful and serene. We were looking for a Zen get-a-way and found exactly that at the Bamboo Cottage. We have already requested future dates and plan to make this our regular vacation escape. The local cuisine at Sushi Rock is outstanding and the local sites and hiking perfect for a casual day or more intense exploration. Zip-line, Flume the ditch, hike Pololu valley or just hang out. No stress, no obligation and plenty of options should you have an inclination to be active.
The owners have thoughtfully created an outstanding retreat!!
