Our waterfront beach cottage sits on a bluff overlooking the James River and Jamestown Island, with steps down to your private beach. The free ferry across the river to Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown is 1.6 miles from the cottage. It runs every 30 minutes during the day until 9 p.m. when it runs every hour during the night. The land that our cottage is on was originally part of the Pleasant Point Plantation that was built in 1650. Watch spectacular sunrises over the river from the deck or the front porch. You can enjoy swimming or just floating on the river. You can take a ride in one of our two kayaks or canoe we have for your use. If you have a boat, you can tie it up in front of the cottage. After enjoying a day of history in Jamestown, Williamsburg, or Yorktown or having fun at Busch Gardens or Water Country, playing a round of golf at one of the many golf courses, shopping in Historic Williamsburg or at the outlets, or enjoying some of the other attractions Virginia has to offer, come back to relax on the 'rivah' in the privacy of your cottage. Sometimes just sitting quietly watching the movement of the water, a tug boat going by, or eagles and ospreys fishing is just what is needed after a busy day. The moon coming up over the river is as beautiful as the sunrise.
Our cottage is in a neighborhood where there are no other rental cottages, only cottages used by their owners. There are no houses behind the cottages, only fields and woods. Once you leave the paved road, you are 0.3 mile down a dirt lane from the start of a perfect vacation. You will not hear any traffic noise. The view of the river is wide open (about a mile to the left is the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry and to the right is Cobham Bay).
Our cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with oven/convection oven, stove top, refrigerator, icemaker, microwave, coffee maker (with filters, coffee and sugar), toaster, and blender. Dinnerware, silverware, glassware, cookware, cooking utensils, paper plates and cups, cooking oils, basic spices, condiments, sugar, hand soap, dish detergent, dish towels and cloths, paper towels and trash bags are provided. In the backyard there is a gas grill ready for your barbeque. Brochures for tourists attractions are provided.
The cottage is centrally heated and air conditioned.
All of the bedrooms are equipped with bed linens, extra blankets and linens, a clock, and a flashlight. The bedroom with the bunk bed (double on bottom and single on top) has a TV and DVD player.
The Bathroom has a tub with a hand-held shower. Hair dryer, towels, toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand lotion), paper products, and first aid kit.
Outside, there are two kayaks with paddles and life preservers (also children's life preservers for playing in the river). Provided are beach chairs, beach umbrella, cooler, beach towels, floats, children's beach toys, and fishing poles with gear.
This is a wonderful place for children but the cottage is not child-proof. Cottage sits on a bluff with steps to the beach.
Pets are considered, and if approved, there is a $100 fee. Even though some of us like to take our pets on vacation, the next family that rents our cottage should not see any sign that a pet has been there. Please email or call us about your pet.
Our cottage is in a neighborhood where you will only see other cottage owners with their families. All the cottages are on the waterfront. It is a perfect location, has a beautiful view, but close to the ferry that will take you across the river. It is like having the best of both worlds. You will understand why the people who have a cottage here love it.
