Great Family Getaway

5 of 5
Submitted: November 25, 2012 Stayed: November 2012
My wife and parents had a chance to stay here on a weekend get away in the Lewisburg area. Amazing house, sitting on the porch in the hot tub on a clear autumn night watching the stars is far from the worst way to spend an evening. House is about 25 minutes from Lewisburg, really large kitchen, very spacious, and quiet. The house is up some fairly typical WV mountain roads- no need for 4WD if there is no snow, but it's a breathtaking view even heading up to the house. Theresa is excellent as an owner, communciation is great, fast and complete. She responds immediatly and had everything ready to go. I couldn't ask for a better rental situation. I would rent from her again in a minute and the house is simply beautiful for a family weekend away, plenty of room to be together or quietly on your own.
Owner's Response: I'm very happy that you had a enjoyable stay. Yes, they are typical WV type roads to the house and you don't really need 4WD, even if there is snow. The roads are maintained by the state and they keep the roads generally cleared. Not everyone that lives by the house has 4WD. I am also happy that you were satisfied with my service to complete the whole transaction. That is my goal. Always happy to have wonderful guests as you, and hope you can return in the future.

30th Birthday Getaway

4 of 5
Submitted: October 25, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
We currently just stayed at the Vista View with a group of couples for my boyfriends 30th birthday! We had an amazing time and are already talking about coming back next year. The home is beautiful, clean, and like she said in the middle of no where! Which is exactly what we wanted. We stayed for 3 nights brought food, beer and activities! We carved pumpkins on the deck enjoying the amazing view. The pictures aren't even comparable to what this view really looks like, especially as all the leaves are changing. We saw deer and animals all weekend long. We also went Whitewater rafting down the Gauley and enjoyed bridge day, both an awesome experience. The Cabin is a good drive from the bridge and white water rafting. Although milage wise it's close, on all those roads it takes about an hour and a half. I would highly recommend this as a great getaway spot! Thank you for everything Theresa, you were very helpful!
Owner's Response: Oh, it sounds like you really enjoyed your time! Carving pumpkins on the deck and enjoying the amazing views. Yes, I have told many people that photos do not do it justice and everyone agrees. It's a colorful time of year in the fall, and you were there for the perfect peak weekend to get to see this, and Bridge Jumping Day. Isn't that amazing, how high that bridge is for these jumpers, who come from all over the world to do this? When you look down, people look like little ants. They only do this once a year, usually on the 3rd weekend of October, so keep that in mind if you want to be there to see that again. Hope you also enjoyed Whitewater Rafting as well. Wasn't it a beautiful drive to get to the New and Gauley Rivers? It makes you feel so alive there at the house between the views and seeing all the wildlife. I am glad you got to enjoy the experience. It's like no other. There are no houses near you, being so private, you can let loose, scream, sing, and you don't have to worry about bothering anybody. Ahh...the true feeling of freedom! I'm glad that all the infomation I sent to you on directions to Whitewater Rafting, list of Restaurants with their reviews, the video of The Greenbrier Valley, etc. was helpful to you. Don't forget, as a repeat customer, you will be issued a discount on your next stay. Talk to you soon!

All we had hoped!

I am happy to write a review of our recent visit. It is a comfort in these days of Internet booking, to find a rental that is all the homeowner describes. This is a beautiful home in a lovely setting. The homeowner is professional and trustworthy. We felt fortunate to have found this listing.

For those considering, I would point out several things: There are two bedrooms on the bottom floor with a hall bath and upstairs, a spacious Master bedroom and bath and adjacent Loft area. The house is ideal for two families.

The house is tucked back in the mountains, overlooking a valley. The view is spectacular. Once you are there, you will not want to leave. The drive from the Interstate took us at least 40 minutes. A portion of the road is a narrow, curvy mountain road. Having read the reviews, we chose in advance not to go back into town during our stay. We were glad not to have to make the trip more than once. Bring everything you need, relax, and enjoy the unique experience of solitude.

Thank you, Theresa, for sharing your lovely home. We home to come again.
Owner's Response: Yes, it is difficult to feel comfortable in dealing with internet bookings. I am happy that you have peace of mind knowing that you could trust that I, and my property are real, and that the property met above your expectations. You stated that the house is ideal for two families, but I have had up to 4 families reuniting together. I guess it depends on how many there are per family. The whole point of going to the mountains is to get away and enjoy some peace and quiet, and also enjoy the home and its surroundings. Once your eyes take a glimpse of the distant and beautiful panoramic views and miles of forests, it makes you feel alive and invigorated. So you want to get all that you need, the kitchen is fully equipped, plus. And everyone should get that "running around" feeling out of ther heads and learn to relax. You don't have to worry too much though, because as soon as you walk in the front door, you start to relax instantly and you don't feel like leaving. The mileage from town to the house is about 20 miles, which is perfect to get away from it all. It seems to have taken you a bit longer to get there than usual. The speed limit to most of the road is 55 mph, but I'm sure you were enjoying the beautiful experience of the ride to get there. Going to town is a nice experience in itself because it is truly historic. I received your inquiry for next year. Your Escape spot is awaiting you. And thank you again for your wonderful review. It is a pleasure dealing with very nice guests as you.

Our Summer Home

Submitted: October 22, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
This Review was written in the Lodge's Guest Book and this is what was said:

Our stay was from April 28th to August 10, 2012. This is our second year staying at Vista View. We come to the Lewisburg area every year. My husband's company does the bleachers and floors for the PGA. So we get to enjoy this house, the West Virginia mountains, and wonderful summer weather! We have enjoyed day trips to Snowshoe Ski Resort, Cass Railroad and the Natural Bridge. Take a cup of coffee and enjoy the mornings on the back deck....sunrise is outstanding! Deer with fawns are hear when we are. There are many other animals to be seen as well as a big variety of birds. Enjoy...we have!

A Wonderful "Home Away From Home"

A Wonderful "Home Away From Home"
5 of 5
Submitted: October 16, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
My husband & I selected this home for a special celebration of our 25th Wedding Anniversary and it did not disappoint! The first few days of our vacation, we were joined by my husband's brother, his wife and their 15 yr old twins for a few days of playing some old fashioned board games and enjoying some great food and family time to celebrate the twins b'days. The spacious house was great for two families and our guests enjoyed the beautiful views. My husband & I then had some quiet "us" time and just relaxed, cooked together, enjoyed the great deck and just had such a wonderful time with no pressures on going anywhere unless we wanted to! The house was beautifully decorated, well supplied, and the goodies basket was such a nice touch. Theresa has been a wonderful owner to work with and her manager was very helpful upon arrival. The car ride up the mountain was an event in itself, so if you are like me it's a good thing to bring your groceries, wine, etc. with you so that you can focus on the fun and not that scary & wild little ride up that mountain more than you need to! If you really want to be away from the world and anything that causes stress (cell phones, internet, work), this indeed is the wonderful place to be! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your compliment! I hope you had the best getaway you could possibly have. It is such a pleasure to have pleasant guests such as yourselves. I try to make it a fun and an easy experience for everyone, and my manager is very hospitable. I see you are not used to small country mountain roads. When you come from major highways and city streets, the small mountain roads seem unusually small, but in time, it becomes second nature. These mountain roads are maintained by the state and kept clear in the winters as well. Yes, you definitely can get stress relief there. You won't hear anything but nature. You'll want to turn off your cell phones and electronics, and you will soon forget about work. I will be happy to share my wonderful home with you again and just remember, if you are a return guest, you will get a discount. Maybe you would like to have a Family Reunion. Well, this house accommodates 12+ and if your family is large, you can rent my other home down the way that sleeps 7+. That would make it available for about 20+ guests. If you rent both homes, there is a package deal discount. Isn't it nice not to see any homes near you? You are truly private there. A great escape!

Girls Weekend

Absolutely beautiful cabin that offers lots of serenity and scenery. Plan on staying at cabin throughout your stay because all activities are a good drive away. Specifically asked about distance to white water rafting and zip lining and was told 45 minutes to 1 hour. Drive actually took us 2 hours so I would not recommend this cabin if you are going to participate in those activities. Owner very accommodating and easy to work with and answered all emails and phone calls promptly. Property well maintained, however for large groups like ours, there were not enough towels, wash cloths, silverware, plates. Would recommend this cabin, but definitely for a quiet weekend away from civilization. Enjoyed ourselves tremendously!
Owner's Response: I am so happy that you enjoyed yourselves tremendously! Thank you for recommending Vista View Lodge as a wonderful place to go. I do take pride in having the home well maintained, and I make it an effort to accommodate my guests by being easy to work with and prompt with my emails and phone calls. I want my guests to have a good positive experience, otherwise, how can guests enjoy their vacation, right? The point of getting away from the hectic of the city, is going to a serene mountain lodge, such as this one. But you can't have the cake and eat it too. To be serene, you can't be near all the traffic and activities, but the beautiful mountain drive to town of about 20 minutes or so, is so worth being away from it, even though there are a few country stores that are closer. I am puzzled on how long it took you to get to white water rafting. There is a shortcut thru the mountains that you were told that you could take, but maybe a wrong road was taken in error? I know that when you try directions on line, they show you how to go on the main highways, but that takes you around the long way. I was just at this home two weekends before you came, and checked the status of the supplies, and did not find that there was a shortage of towels or plates to accommodate your group of 12, but I did notice, that apparently, there were a few spoons missing, and this is being addressed. Of course, there is no room service, since this is a private home, and cannot supply a change of towels every day, but there is a washer and dryer with a supply of soap for you to wash what you need at any time at your convenience. Hope this trip has abled you to renew your spirit to be able to go back to the grind.

Great getaway with total seclusion!

Beautiful cabin located in very secluded location! We were looking for a place to unwind and relax and we definitely found it! House has all the amenities to make yourself at home and not leave the entire trip if you so choose! Enjoyed long walks on the property, followed by relaxing cool down on the porch swing and a evening relaxing in the hot tub. It was just two of us but there was enough room had we brought a few other couples as well. Theresa is quick to respond to any questions and is very accommodating. We rode a few times into the nearby town of Lewisburg (known as 'nations coolest town") which has all you would need for a evening out on the town, dining and shopping. We searched around many places before booking and very pleased with our decision and would love to visit again!!
Owner's Response: Yes, I try to be quick to respond and accommodating because I want everyone to be happy and have a pleasant experience. It's nice isn't it, to find a true getaway with no cookie cutter homes around you for your peace and privacy? This is a custom built home nestled in the woods and situated appropriately for where the sun rises and sets, and for grand panoramic views. It does have a lot of living space, even though it was just the two of you, it can comfortably sleep 12+ people. Although, I do rent it out often to couples. So next time, bring your family and friends, that's what it's all about. Staying together is so rewarding and much more enjoyable than having to book multiple motel rooms. How can you plan a wonderful dinner in motel rooms? Eating out has become expensive and it has gotten to the point in this world, that making your own meals is much healthier and safer. You know how fresh your food is and that you have cleaned your fruits and vegetables properly. You can also put a roast or stew in the crock pot and once you come back from your excursions, your meal is ready when you get back. Can't beat that! So, you get a much more pleasant place to stay and are able to have nice group meals for a great bonding experience. Then you realize, your group has spent a lot less money renting Vista View Lodge when you are sharing. Oh, and don't forget, I have another home at Vista View that sleeps up to 7+ in case you get a super large group together, you can book both places. That would be great for a family reunion. Don't forget, previous Guests get a discount on a return visit.

The Perfect Getaway

I took my wife to this beautiful lodge for our 4yr wedding anniversary. The Lodge was everything I could've wanted and then some for a romantic weekend away. The home owner was a wonderful person to deal with. The Lodges caretaker was very helpful with giving us directions and showing us around when we arrived. When we arrived the home owner had a beautiful welcome basket set up for my wife and I with chocolates and other goodies for our anniversary. The lodge was so beautiful on the inside and outside. The view from the back deck is unbelievably beautiful and also on the back deck was a huge hot tub that was very clean and already set to temp for our use. My wife and I spent Saturday in the coolest little town in WV (Lewisburg). We walked around town looking at the cool shops and we ate at a fantastic restaurant. I would highly recommend the Lodge to anyone. It was a perfect getaway and I plan to go back in the very near future. I would like to thank The home owner and the care taker for their hopitality they made my wife and I feel like we were at our own home. Also one last plus we received our deposit back with in a week of returning home. Great times!!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the compliment! It's so nice to hear that my Guests have enjoyed their stay at Vista View Lodge. I try to make it my goal to make sure that everyone that stays at the Lodge will experience a wonderful and great experience with the least stress possible. So, the process of booking at the Lodge is a pleasant one. Yes, I am fortunate to have an excellent property caretaker/manager that is so hospitable, friendly and meticulous. We do try to gear our goodies in the Guest Basket to if they are celebrating a special occasion, but even if it's just a getaway, your basket of goodies will greet you. The little Historic town of Lewisburg is very welcoming as well, as you a noticed. And yes, I always promise that you will receive your Security Deposit back within the same week that you leave. Hope to see you soon!

Nice and quiet getaway

4 of 5
Submitted: January 17, 2012 Stayed: January 2012
Vista View lodge is the most quiet place I've ever been to. My friends and I really enjoyed staying there. And the view from the hot tub is just amazing. Lodge is really spacious and there's plenty of room for at least 10 people. The beds were really comfortable.
It was little too far away from Snowshoe ski resort for us but it was worth the trip.
This place is just perfect if you want to get away from city craziness and just enjoy nice and quiet time with family and friends. I really enjoyed staying there and wish I could've stayed longer.
Owner's Response: Yes, well it is peaceful and quiet at the Lodge, and yes, it is a perfect getaway from your busy lives. You can certainly renew your energy while sitting in the Hot Tub and viewing the distant panoramic mountaintop views. But, there are lots of activities you can engage in to keep you busy as well. Whether it be outdoor activities, such as, skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, tubing down the river, caving, repelling, bridge jumping, white water rafting, etc., or events, festivals or shows, such as at Carnegie Hall, live Theatre, Taste of Our Town Festival, Civil War Reeanactment, visiting the world famous "The Greenbrier Resort" with all of its shops and eateries, ice skating, and don't forget to tour The Bunker. There is so much History in Lewisburg, visiting the town is amazing in itself with all its shops, eateries, wine tastings, antique shops, etc., and the friendliest people you will find. Some guests are avid skiers and would prefer to be in a "ski-out" type of location for skiing. As I had stated before, this Lodge does not sit at the top of Snowshoe Mountain, otherwise it would be four times the cost for the size, quality and amenities this home offers. And of course, there is more to do at this location. You can go north to Snowshoe or south to Lewisburg/White Sulphur Springs. Therefore, most groups choose to enjoy a beautiful, spacious and comfortable home to share with larger groups to keep their cost down, such as this Lodge, and don't mind a short and beautiful drive through the country do drive up the mountain. That is part of the experience. That has been the largest concensus I have been receiving from guests. They prefer to be at Vista View Lodge and drive up the mountain. I guess you confirmed that yourself. Most guests seem to say the same as you have, that they wish they could stay longer. Well, its a reasonable trip from the DC area, and I do get lots of guests from that area, but don't forget, you can come back, and I do give discounts on return guests. I hope you enjoyed your "Welcome Gift", "Free Mountain Air", and the taste of our wonderful pure and healthy water. It is one of the "purest with healthy minerals" in the world. See you soon!

I only wish I had more time to enjoy this amazing place. The location is just perfect to get away! The views are spectacular and the house is exceptionally welcoming… It was just what we were looking for! We specially enjoyed the large fireplace in the living room and the swing in the back porch! It was just the perfect place to seat down, relax and drink your wine while looking at the amazing sunset. The large window in the master bedroom was also great. We woke up to a full view of the mountains and a beautiful sunrise. The whole experience was just great! The owner was just wonderful to work with and her property manager was exceptionally nice! Also, the house was fully equipped with everything you needed to cook and grill. Everything was clean and very well maintained. I just can’t say enough about the great time we had. I will recommend it anytime!
Owner's Response: You didn't have enough time to enjoy this amazing place, but you can return in the future and I will give you a discount as return guests. This warm and comfortable cedar lodge will welcome you again and again. You will get to see the breathtaking panoramic distant mountaintop vista views. That is how the Lodge got its name "Vista View Lodge". Its quite majestic to watch between the early morning and even mist and floating clouds in between. I'm glad you got to enjoy the large livingroom fireplace and hope you enjoyed the fireplace in the Master Suite as well. I bet you felt you woke up in a large forest tree house. So much nature! The roofed wrap-around porch with variety of seating and hot tub is really pleasant to hang out and enjoy the peace of the mountains. It is so private, which makes it ideal. Myself and my Manager take pride in making the whole experience as easy and stress free as possible. After all, this is your vacation! Yes, the house is fully equipped for your comfort and we are always updating, adding, adjusting and improving, if that is possible, for your comfort and pleasure. This vacation home is more than a place to stay. Its a place to get closer to one another. Its where family and friends take a break, reconnect and reminisce. Don't forget to try some skiing, snow tubing, etc. in the winter months.
