Hauula Cottage Rental Photos and Description
3 Bedrooms, 2 Bath, Sleeps 6

Our Seaside cottage is a private home located right on the ocean, in the quaint Hawaiian village of Hauula. Within walking distance of 2 art galleries, our home offers the perfect setting for a family vacation. The outdoor covered lanai runs the length of the home, with steps leading right to the water. You could not get any closer to the sea, at high tide the water laps against the sea wall and crabe peek over to see whats goung on on the lanai. Its a great place to spend hours in the hammock while enjoying the ocean breeze with a good book, or sharing a meal with friends and family. Our home has 3 bedrooms; one with a king, one a queen ant the third has full bed. One of the bedrooms has a private bath. . While it will be hard to leave our seaside retreat, there are many nearby attractions. Kualoa Ranch, where you can journey by horseback or off road vehicles, to to the site where Jurassic Park was filmed is 10 minutes to the south. The famed Pollyinisian Cultural Center is just 10 minutes to the north.

We arrived in Hauula late Saturday night using the directions provided to us by Deb. We had no problem getting into the cottage and immediately settled in. Although the location is a little bit away from the city, we quickly found out that it was actually in the perfect spot for our family. The location was just about half way between Honolulu and the North Shore. We spent more time on the North Shore than anywhere else as it was just the speed we needed for our vacation. Our kids fell in love with the beach and the big hammock out front. With this vacation, we found it very hard to leave as we were so comfortable in the house. This is a very different feeling than staying in a hotel room with 2 kids who are constantly on top of one another. The ability to be able to cook, BBQ, and do laundry throughout the trip allowed us to be more relaxed and made it feel almost like home.

Thank you very much for allowing us to stay in your cute bungalow - we want to come back next year!!!

Our own private beach

Hi Debbie,

We'll be leaving the house in an hour or so and I wanted to email to let you know what a truly wonderful, relaxing time we've had.

We had practically a private beach for our whole stay and the snorkeling, swimming and sunshine was just perfect! No seals or turtles to be seen, but a lot of happy memories made. The house was in great shape.

Thank you for your work, opening up this house and making it vacation rental. It was truly one of the best vacations we've had as a family. .

Warm Regards,

Most relaxing family vacation!

This clean, basic home was absolutely perfect for our family of 5 (three kids under 10). If you’re looking for a luxury vacation home this isn't it - but for our family it was exactly what was needed. With just a few neighboring houses on either side we assumed the beach area we was going to be quiet but we had practically a private beach for our whole stay - the snorkeling, swimming and sunshine was just perfect! There was a basket of previous guest's beach toys/equipment which was a nice bonus. The calm shore was perfect for our young children who swam, paddled and floated most of the day! At low tide the beach was clean. At high tide the sea comes right up to the home and makes for great snorkeling. No seals or turtles to be seen during our stay, but a lot of happy memories made.

The kitchen was well equipped, beds comfy, and bathrooms clean, stocked with plenty of towels. WiFi worked great, a rather varied collection of novels on the bookshelf, we never even turned on the TV! With no AC in the home we kept all the windows facing the sea open which kept the house fairly cool even in upper 80s temps.

It was an easy drive from HNL airport. This area of the North Shore is a short drive to shops, attractions, good restaurants etc. but honestly we were content to sit on the back deck or on the beach most of the day. In comparison to the hustle/bustle of Honolulu this area of Oahu is much quieter (noting the house is right on the main road but from the back porch you don't hear the traffic). Debbie the owner was a pleasure to connect with, very helpful, attentive, and obviously cares deeply about her guests and home.

It was truly one of the best vacations we've had as a family. Thanks Debbie!

We are 4 adults and 2 kids and find this home to be spacious and very comfortable. It has everything you need for a home away from home....there are even swim/sand toys for the kids to use. The house is spotless and a great location for the sites of the North Shore.

If you are looking for fancy resort location this is not it, this is way better...a great way to relax, get up, put on the shorts and flip flops and hit the beach....leave your high heels and fancy out fits at home.

Deb has been great to work with and is allowing us to stay until the end of the day on our final day, since our flight leaves in the evening (yes, we're still here). We will have no hesitation in returning or recommending this house to anyone.

Great Beach Cottage = Amazing Family Vacation

My family and I had a great stay this beach cottage on the northshore. This cottage fit our needs just perfectly. The kids loved the beach just outside our patio and whilst my husband and parents and I were able to relax in the covered patio area. We came for a Thanksgiving holiday and were a tad unsure about the weather during this time of year (stayed Nov. 20 to Dec 12). Any hesitation we had quickly disappeared when we were able to enjoy the amazing sunrises in the morning and the soft sand at our toes. Ethan (8) has food allergies and much to my delight the kitchen was spotless and perfect for preparing healthy, gluten-free meals. There are also two local markets close by and tons of fresh produce stands which helped cut down our food bill. Our only small comment was that the sofa wasn't great but Deb worked quickly as possible to replace the sofa with a bright cheery new sofa and loveseat. Overall we were delighted with this beach treasure and can't wait to return.

Great Bungalow
Our family (4) stayed in the Sacred Falls bungalow in January and had a great and wonderful stay! Deb was absolutely fantastic to work with and provided all the information needed to arrive, stay and depart without a hitch. All was very clean and the beds were very comfortable – the time of day was marked by the variations of the beautiful views of the ocean and the sound the waves made depending on the tide. A hui hou kakou (Until we meet again)

A Fablous Time
Deb, this is Tommy and our good friend Kathy, sitting here enjoying our 3rd day to watch the sunrise from the lanai and loving every minute. Just want to say thank you for making this little hideaway available for so many to enjoy. You apparently have a friend just off the shore:). Every morning he sticks his head up and we watch him for at least an hour. Pretty sure it's a turtle and he's right on cue each sunrise....and not a small one either:) We got to the Bungalow Thursday afternoon, hit the grocery store, stopped at Pali Point, ate at Giovannis Shrimp Truck and here before dark and go settled in. Since our hours are off, we crash about 9 each night and up by 5:30, ready for beautiful sunrise and lazy early morning. We toured the island the first day, ate at Sharks Cove which we really like, went to Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay on around to Dole Plantation, picked up shrimp at Romys and back in time for the evening. Sat we enjoyed the beach til time to get ready for our dinner cruise. Today is play at the beach again if it doesn't rain and our luau tonight. Monday is off to Turtle Bay for our helicopter ride, no doors:) Tues is :(. pack up, head for Waikiki, Hilo Hattie's, airport by 6 What a fabulous time we are having. We love the bungalow and the location is perfect. We hope to make it back in the future.

Fantastic vacation rental! see to believe!

My then fiancee, parents and sister stayed in this charming bungalow October 17th thru 24th. What can I say, Fabulous. Deb was a breeze to work with, making all of the details simple and easy. We arrived at our bungalow and was amazed that the pictures did not do justice to the actual place. It was better than the photos. We woke up every morning at dawn and had coffee on the lanai and went to bed with the crashing of the waves right outside our door, literally! And so many stars at night! We even went swimming right out back and watched the crabs come up on the sand in the evening. It has everything you need, just bring clothes, you wont need much lol! and food, that's it. There are great places to eat in the area, my favorite was papa ole's and Giovanni's shrimp truck, or any of the trucks, and Ted's bakery is a must stop! Having bbq pit was right there was great. And what can I say about the hammock...OMG, paradise on the lanai with my pina colada in hand! There's even a blender provided too! This area is great for spending quiet days away from the hustle and bustle of town, but still close enough for a nice scenic drive anywhere the road leads you with a couple museums just down the road and just about a 20 minute drive to North shore, the Waimea water falls you can swim in and the Polynesian culture center just minutes away. The place is just as described and each room looks exactly like the photos, better. Could not have loved it more. We are already planning on going back soon!

Not as nice as the pictures

This house is much nicer looking in the pictures than it actually is. When we got there, there were winged ants everywhere, the beds, inside the sheets,on the floor. We had to wash all the bedding to get rid of the winged ants as well as the wings that were laying all over the floor and sweep. Paying this price, I don't expect to have to clean the floors and do the laundry checking in. That was the first bad thing. The house needs a complete remodel. It is very close to the road and hard to back in and out without killing yourself doing so. it is right on the water which is one good thing but the tide comes up right next to the house, almost on the patio so high tide you have to walk into the water and go down the beach to be able to put your chairs on the sand. The front converted bedroom is so very tiny it is a stretch to call it a bedroom it is more like a closet and the first night we stayed there, my daughter had a huge cockroach on her when she woke up in the morning. Needless to say she avoided that room the rest of our stay. The place just wasn't up to par with the price or the places I have stayed in previously. In fact, I wanted to check out three days early, just because of the condition of the house. If you are used to 2 star accomodations this house is for you. If not, avoid and go elsewhere.
Owner's Response: I have read this guests comments and we are so sorry they were disappointed in our home. I wish they had notified us they were unhappy, as we would have been pleased to refer them to another home and we would have refunded their money.

The issues they raised were really beyond our control as they relate to weather conditions and this area of the north shore. In particular they mention finding “wings from flying insects” throughout our home. Several times a year (island wide) there are termite swarms (usually in the early summer). When this occurs termites can enter a home through the tiniest of cracks. They die within hours and the wings remain on floors and on all surfaces. I’m guessing the swarm occurred right after our home was cleaned, but prior to their arrival. We have a regular pest service, but the annual “swarms” just can’t be prevented.

Regarding parking most ocean front north shore homes are on the main road that goes around the Island. We feel fortunate to be one of the few with covered parking, but care is needed when backing out of the carport. Guests also have the option to park in front of the house. With regard to the beach and high tide we took great care to include in our HomeAway property description that at high tide the water comes “right up to the wall” therefore our little private beach disappears during high tide.

Our home is restored fisherman’s cottage. It is spotless and well maintained. Our photos accurately reflect the homes interior including bedrooms size. Our small bedroom has a “full” bed and, as one can see in the photos, it pretty much fills the room….but is still a comfy place to sleep.

We take great pride in our home but we can not control the tides, an island wide termite swarm or the fact that care is needed to back out of the carport. All of our guests have enjoyed our home, and I am sorry it was just not the right place for this family.
