Nice House, Poor Experience
This listing was accurate in terms of location and the pictures that are shown. There was ample room for the 2 families we had staying there. The beds were clean and comfortable. One thing you can't see from the pictures is the very stained carpet and that the baseboards are dirty. There was also a disassembled bed in the dining room that made that space unusable. There was only one dish towel in the kitchen and there weren't any cloths. We found there to be a good number of bath towels for the 6 people we had staying there. If you had closer to their recommended 11, it might be tight. When we arrived the recycling bin was full and the garbage bin was overflowing. We had to put all our garbage and recycling in the garage.
We were set to arrive shortly after the recent flood. We had some concerns about being able to cross the river at Medicine Hat. We talked to the owner about our concerns and she said if we couldn't arrive because of the flood we would still be out the damage deposit, but that she would return the rental costs. By the time we were on the road, there was no issue getting across the river.
When we arrived we realized the air conditioning wasn't working. We called the owner and let her know. She said it was a new rental property and that she would call us back after finding out some information. When she didn't call us back that evening we called her the next morning. She said that we could open the windows and spend time in the basement. When we told her we rented a unit that advertised A/C she said she would look into getting it fixed and call us back. Later that afternoon her partner arrived with 3 fans, two of which we had to assemble. She never called us back.
When we asked her by email about a reduced rate because of the lack of A/C we received no response. We found it very hard through the whole rental process to get a hold of the owner by email. We called her on 4 different occasions and she responded right away. The owner also returned our damage deposit within the 5 day window that was written on the agreement.
I would be hesitant to recommend this property to a friend, because when the A/C problem came up, we felt that the owner's communication with us was poor and there was little effort made to resolve the problem. It was above 30 degrees celsius all 3 days we were there and it made it almost impossible for us to sleep (let alone a 4 year old, 3 year old, and 3 month old).
