Hector and Joanna are warm and welcoming hosts. Much thought has gone into the downstairs apartment and it is clean, safe and inviting. The bed is comfortable and the little touches make all the difference, like the christmas tree lights on the outside tree which you can view from the bed. Joanna displays here reused beach finds that she has turned into art work and everywhere you look there is a touch of her creativity. Plenty of hot water in the shower and basic toliet articles are available for use. There are snorkles (without fins) provided gratis, along with all that you will need on the beach - great chairs and a cooler. The carib beach is fabulous! Bikes are availble for rent. Once checked in, we were left to our own devices. Anytime we needed guidance they were more than happy to help. Please note, secure your return ferry tickets upon arrival! They do sell out. Improvements? Would be nice if the coffee maker was full size and a conventional toaster available. There is not an oven just a hot plate and it is more like camping to prepare a meal and heat water for clean up.However, it is a fabulous value for the price. We cooked lobster on the hot plate and finished on the grill and grilled fresh grouper and steak as well. If you are looking to eat out and just have breakfast in and make sandwiches for lunch you will be more than happy. If you are in need of quiet, the local roosters crow very early - bring good earplugs. Their puppies- dachsunds and one boxer are very friendly and become part of your family . Also, two cats. If you do not like animals, you will not be happy. We had a great time and we will return. I miss Poppy the puppy.

The owners are very friendly and helpful, happy and lovely people. What we really loved was a BBQ, as we babbequed a perfect fresh snapper (cought at a local fish market), the best dinner we had in 2013 :).
We'll definately stay here again, and we will be back to Vieques!

My husband and I stayed at Casa Ylan for a whole week, and we had the most amazing and relaxing time of our lives. When we arrived via ferry, Hector picked us up and gave us a short and very informative tour of the neighborhood. The place is perfect for a couple, super clean, quiet and adorable. We don't drive so it was great that the supermarket was just a short walk away. The outdoor kitchenette was great to have, because this way you don't have to eat out every night, so if you're on a budget, this is the way to go as opposed to a hotel room (it is also way quieter at night). Joeanna grows herbs and fruits in the garden which she offered us to pick and use, and trust me, they're great!
If you have a car great, but if you don't like us, it is easy and very cheap to get a taxi to anywhere you wanna go on the island.
If you are an animal lover like us, you're gonna be thrilled by the family of sausage dogs that "protects" the property. There's also a couple of cute little kittens, and horses often come to visit to drink the water Joeanna and Hector leave for them.
All I can say, not only do we recommend staying at Casa Ylan, but we will DEFINETLY be back!

Our time at Casita Ylan was a short 3day/2 night stay, but definitely making our trip to Vieques memorable. Our hosts, Hector & Joanna, welcomed and treated us like family.

We found the location of the studio conveniently located to various points all over the island. Key sites such as trips to the gas station, grocery store, downtown plaza, the ferry, and the beautiful beaches, took 5-15min driving distance to reach.

The studio accommodation in itself was very comfortable and well equipped with everything to make your stay worry-free. Kitchen utensils, abundant toiletries, clean towels, and excellent air-conditioning, are just a few highlights worth mentioning. Our hosts even provided an extra futon-bed upon knowing we would have our child with us. So, this place is definitely child-friendly.

We would highly recommend this studio to any of our own family members and close friends. We, ourselves, would stay surely return to this studio rental on our next Vieques getaway!

We were extremely lucky to have found Casita Ylan and it more than exceeded our expectations!
Some of our favorite aspects about this property:
The owners Joeanna and Hector have worked managing 6 or so of the private villas at the W Hotel property for many years and so are very experienced with what rental guests might need. They are extremely friendly and warm people, making you truly feel wanted and like part of the family. Both Hector and Joeanna were born and raised in Vieques so they know the island intimately. They did really sweet things for us like giving us a private tour of Isabel II on our first day and pointing out their favorite locations for purchasing food or eating out so that we knew our way around. Other examples were washing our beach towels daily that we had hanging outside or asking us if we needed a beer or giving us some of their homemade coquito (a traditional Puerto Rican egg-nog like drink for the holidays) or simply sending a text message to check on us to make sure we were safe on one of the days that we returned late at night from the beach. At the same time, they definitely respected our space and privacy and simply would check in periodically to see if we needed anything. They were amazing.
Another of my favorite things is that they offered for us to pick fruit from their Star Fruit tree (which I did each morning for breakfast) or from their garden of maybe 10-20 different herbs. They have also planted bananas, papayas and other fruit trees that should mature soon. Hector manages the grounds at the W and so has beautiful tropical plants growing around the property.
We also loved spending time with their dogs and kitten. I realize this may not be for everyone, but I have to say that they have some of the friendliest, sweetest and funniest pets I have ever encountered. One of their dogs in particular seems to worship the ground you walk on, and waits for hours outside just for the chance of being pet for a few minutes on your way out the door. At the same time, they typically kept their dogs penned during parts of the day, so if you are not a dog lover I’m sure you could ask them to keep them inside.
Some other details:
The grounds have a hammock and outside dining table/charis which they offered for us to use, as well as a small creek and Ylan trees (which have a beautiful fragrance from the flowers at night).
The condo and everything in it was absolutely brand new as of Dec 2012 and everything was clean and worked
