Vieques Island House Rental Photos and Description
Lo-season, $175p/n; Hi-season: w 1 bdrm $200p/n; w 3 bdrm $220p/n

Adjacent to the Nature Reserve, on a hilltop in Barrio Monte Carmelo; sleeps up to 6 with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, 2 large wrap-around terraces with an outdoor dining area and built-in gas grill. Our beautiful, architecturally-designed home offers incredible views in all directions with breezes to match. Wake up in the glorious morning to unobstructed views of the Reserve and the island of Culebra, and even St. John and St. Croix on a clear day, or have a cocktail on the front balcony while you watch the lights of Vieques and main-island Puerto Rico twinkle in the distance. The countryside location is in the center of the island so you can be just about anywhere in 5-20 minutes — from the island's best beaches to restaurants and shopping. Our Viequense neighbors are friendly and respond in kind to a smile and a wave. Friendly dogs, wandering chickens and free-roaming horses are all a part of day-to-day life in Monte Carmelo, so if an insulated resort-like experience is what you're looking for, then our house is not for you. But if you are looking to experience real-life Vieques in the comfort of a safe and stylish house, then we have no doubt you will love it here. Free wifi and hard-wired computer access. In high season, if only the master bedroom is rented with the house, the per-night rate is reduced to $200 from $220 for all 3 bedrooms. In lo-season it is $175 per night for 1-3 bedrooms. Note there is always only 1 party in the house at a time.

We are Jamie and Perri and we live in Brooklyn, NY when we're not in Vieques. Jamie has a wine shop and Perri is a graphic designer. We love Vieques and we can tell you all of our favorite not-to-be-missed places so you can enjoy it as much as we do!

Jamie & Perri purchased this house in 2006

We love our mountain-top location with it's constant breezes and and unstoppable views of the Nature Reserve, the distant islands, and Vieques itself. It's always comfortable, with no need for air conditioning, and when the mosquitoes are biting in town, the breezes keep them away on the hill. As a bonus, our house is located in the center of the island so it's equally convenient to get to just about anywhere you'll want to be.

• unobstructed views of the Nature Reserve, distant islands, Vieques and Puerto RIco

• constant breezes

• Completely renovated, unique architectural design inspired by Spanish-Colonial detailing, featuring a plethora of traditionally-made tile and woodwork.

• 2 large rear terraces, a front balcony, and a built-in outdoor gas grill

• located in the center of the island making all destinations within 10-20 minutes

We absolutely loved this house, which suited our needs perfectly: one couple in the master bedroom, another couple and their kids downstairs. Since the downstairs rooms are separate from the main house (no internal stairs), this made it a bit "raw" during rain to travel back and forth. Thankfully it rains very little here. But the night time privacy was nice for all. The house is BEAUTIFUL. The sitting couches that also serve as beds have spoiled us. The eternal breezes kept mosquitos and flies away and kept us cool out on the deck. We all enjoyed the view we were greeted with every morning (even my 16 year old twins marveled at the views, and they're jaded about EVERYTHING). The three water hoses were very well placed, allowing us many trips to the beaches: we were able to hose off our feet and legs before stepping into the house. The floors, however, were easy to sweep out, if needed. Perri and Miriam were great helps with our stay on the island. The information packet is a great source of information, I strongly suggest reading it over when you arrive. You will regret it if you don't, because restaurant and shopping information is great.

We arrived after a long day of travel with our two kids and breathed easy. We knew immediately that we had chosen right. The other reviewers are right; the pictures are totally accurate and if anything, don't fully convey the beauty of this home..The decor is artistic, thoughtful, fitting with the landscape. The house is convenient, but looking out over the vast reserve with the sea beyond, one has the feeling of being very far away from it all. Just try lying on the hammock on the porch and thinking once about work! The house is very well stocked and we found it comfortable in every way. The owners are also easy to reach with questions and Miriam is super helpful. It is in a real neighborhood. If you're looking for a resort experience, this is not it. For us, the neighborhood added a great deal to the experience and we enjoyed meeting our neighbors (and their horses). Highly recommend.

Staying at Perri's place was a phenomenal experience. Vieques itself was a great destination but staying at Perri's definitely made our week even better, I cannot imagine staying anywhere else on the island. We arrived early on our check-in day and were able to drop our bags before starting to explore the island. The house was exactly as advertised and the interior was as beautiful as the views. The balconies off the first floor and second floor bedroom are awesome and have unbelievable views. She had beach chairs, cooler, and towels which made going to the beach really easy. The grill made it so easy to make dinner on nights we didn't feel like eating out. Additionally, Perri's informational pack was so helpful in navigating the stores, markets, restaurants on the island. If you're planning a trip to Vieques defintiely stay at Perri's place. We can't wait to go back.

The pictures do not even begin to do this house justice. This place is absolutely beautiful, secluded yet accessible, authentic with all the comforts home (including Wi-Fi and more importantly, scrabble!). My friends and I, 5 years out of college, were looking for a spring break out of the ordinary and we definitely found that in Vieques. The house is sandwiched between two sleepy towns (Esperanza and Isabel II) almost equidistant. Esperanza, the larger of the two, lights up at night with music emanating from the bars and restaurants on the main drag. We had amazing food experiences in Esperanza, Belly Buttons for breakfast, Duffy’s for lunch and dinner and El Quenepo for a special, more expensive night out (Get the Mofongo!!!). There were several other places suggested that we just didn’t have time for. Both Miriam and Perri offered amazing recommendations for beaches and we found Blue Beach (Bahia La Chiva) to be our favorite but tried to go to as many beaches as possible. We also frequented the W Hotel several times post-beach for a little late afternoon sun and drinks by their infinity pools. Renting a car is mandatory, but affordable! You can be virtually anywhere on the island in 10-20 minutes. It was well worth the money. Miriam was great in preparation for our arrival and was very responsive to queries via text and phone. This vacation practically ran itself, which I think is a testament to the property, the DeFinos and Miriam. I will definitely be coming back!

This house was stunning, better than the pictures, and we had an incredible time! We were so happy with our choice to stay at Perri and Jamie's, and will without a doubt stay here again when we return. My only wish was that we had stayed longer, so we could have spent an entire day just enjoying the house and spectacular views! Love!

As everyone before has mentioned, this is a wonderful place to stay especially for a family. This was our first trip to Vieques having been to PR and Culebra a few times and we have been enjoying ourselves so much.

The house is on the edge of the refuge with beautiful unspoiled views of the east end of the island. On a clear day you can see Culebra, St. John and St.Croix all from your patio. The night sky is fabulous.

The house is tastefully decorated with a multinational theme. The tile work reminded us of our recent trip to Morocco! Perri and Mirium (the local housekeeper) see to it that everything you need is there, clean, and in good working order. I found them exceptionally responsive to any little need.

The only thing I would say as a caution is that if you want solitude and absolute quiet then you might not be happy. This is in a neighborhood which for us was great. We met Abe and co. next door and even enjoyed a few concerts from his front porch. But neighbors come with some noise- the occasional concert as mentioned which went until about 10pm- but also lots of crowingroosters and barking dogs which might bother you if you are a light sleeper. Again, I like to experience local flavor and none of the above was excessive but if you would be put off by it it is better to know in advance so you are not disappointed....

The house is perfect to get to both towns and great beaches with less than a 10-15 minute drive. Add to it some great restaurants and you've got a great place to spend a week or more! We spent a couple of days where we never left the house- eating/sleeping and reading on the patio was all we needed!

Great job Perri and Jamie!

This is the perfect place to stay in Vieques! The house is even more lovely in person than in the very accurate photos! I loved how Perri wove together the Spanish revival concrete floor tiles with the fabulous Central Asian, Indian, and African textiles and carved wood furniture pieces. The details were all right on! The location is central to some of the island's best beaches and the views from the terrace are amazing. The man we rented a car from told us not to bother going out to dinner because we had the best view on the island. . .he was right! I loved watching the sun rising in the morning while listening to the roosters crowing! The house is well stocked with beach gear (snorkling stuff, beach chairs, etc.), good books to read, and a washer and dryer. Perri and her house manager Miriam were both very accessible and quick to respond to emails, texts and phone calls. When our flight out was in danger of being cancelled because of bad weather Miriam very kindly waited to clean until we were able to leave just in case we needed to stay another night. Big, big, thanks! We will be back!

We recently returned from a week's stay and were so upset to leave such a lovely place. The pictures really do not do the home justice. The owners were great and checked in with us the day after we arrived to make sure we were happy with everything. The wonderful house manager who lives nearby was great and offered some great tips and recommendations. The house is kept incredibly well, spotless when we arrived, and the views of the nature preserve from the many decks are priceless. The yard is full of fruit trees and beautifully maintained. The well-stocked kitchen was perfect for cooking dinner, thought definitely be sure to try the great places in Esperanza. As many others have mentioned, the house is in a local neighborhood, and you will see dogs, chickens and horses, which, although it can make driving a bit difficult, provided a local character that we enjoyed. Would recommend to everyone!

Wake up to the sun rising over the windswept green hills in your backyard and the sound of roosters. With all of the louvers on the floor-to-ceiling windows open, the entire house is filled with light. Beautiful Moroccan tiles under your feet. High ceilings and lots of open space in the house. Lay out in the sun, enjoy the breeze on the decks, lounge out on the hammock and read a book and take in the view, and have a perfect day without ever leaving the house. The star gazing & sunrises will have you tuned into your surroundings & pleasantly unplugged. The kitchen has everything you need to cook all your meals, including a nice stove / oven and an outdoor grill. There's a beautiful garden out back, with lemons, pomegranates, and papayas. And you're a ten minute drive to the local supermarket—it's definitely worth stocking up on groceries if you're going to be there more than a few days. The house is nestled up on a hill in a local neighborhood. You'll pass by locals working on their houses and their gardens, and wild horses grazing on the road as you drive up and down the hill. You're a ten minute drive to the closest beaches. It's a gorgeous house on a gorgeous island, surrounded by local flavor. Highly recommend it.

This house provided us with the perfect stay in Vieques. Let me start out by saying that we were seeking a mix of adventure and relaxation for our time away and we got exactly that. The house itself is so beautiful, clean and well taken care of. When we arrived, Miriam greeted us and showed us the property. She was kind and thorough and reassured us that she was always a text or phone call away. Since neither my boyfriend nor I had ever been to Vieques, we appreciated her kindness.

The house is located on top of a hill and like other comments on here have stated... you are definitely in a neighborhood, this is not a secluded resort-like setting. If you are looking for the latter, then the W Hotel is down the road. Truthfully, having visited the W for a day during our stay, I couldn't have been happier with the choice we made. This is not to say the house itself isn't a luxury to be in. We got to spend our days at the beach and our evenings reading, cooking big dinners and watching sunsets over the island from the beautiful balconies.

Also, a couple we travel with from time to time came to visit us and the setup of the house was perfect for our situation! We each had our own space but were able to share the beautiful living area.

The house rules and guidelines were very helpful during our stay! The restaurant recommendations were great. We highly recommend El Quenepo. The only outdated rec seemed to be for Chez Shack which appeared to have been closed for good when we went, but I'd call and make sure. For activities, aside from using the snorkeling gear and getting out in the water, I would recommend renting scooters and going to the far end of the island to Green Beach. We had a beautiful ride, I would just be careful of mud.

Lastly, Perri went out of her way to check in via email to make sure all was well when we arrived and left. I felt taken care of the entire stay and I wouldn't have changed a thing about our experience. We will definitely be coming back here to stay. I hope this review did the house some justice because I simply cannot recommend this place enough.

Thank you, Perri!
