You are coming to Istanbul, that means you are looking for something historical but urban, something imperial but humble, something oriental but western, something old style but fresh. Those are what we are offering make the city embracing you in a warm way. You may find real comfort in a spacious picture. The most of the furniture has been taken from our antique shop, cleaned, varnished and settled to make a difference and create an exceptional decoration and make you feel yourself someone special who already you are. There will be a small garden you may share with our other flat in a month. Cezayir Street known as French quarter is a few steps away. Also Istiklal Street, Asmali Mescit, Galata, Cihangir in walking distance. The touristic attractions of Eminonu, Topkapi Palace, Dolmabahce Palace, Bosphorus tours with ferries, Spice Bazaar, Grand Bazaar, several old hamams, Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia are very easy to access by tram. You may walk those routes which could be fun also.

Since August 2010, we have hosted 318 people in 108 group in the apartment (July 25th, 2013)

If you see your days are not available on calendar or if you have a bigger group, please ask for any other rooms, because we have 6 flats in the same building with numbers of capacity for hosting 26 people at the same time.

This is really lovely deluxe flat in Galatasaray managed by directly the owners who like to meet people from around the world. If you seek for exceptional places, this is it.

Please read until the end of this description to see what you will have in Istanbul with us.

Want to go to Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace or Grand Bazaar. Get a tram from Tophane after 5 minutes walk.

Would you like to shop? Walk to Galatasaray, Istiklal Street in 5 minutes and get everything you want.

You wanna try a glass of Raki? 'Cicek Pasaji - Passage de Fleure', an old and very decorative gallery with full of drink houses, is in 5 minutes walk away. Or you may go to Nevizade Street after there. But take it slow, Raki would make you dizzy. It is our strong and very delicious spirit. It's best in a conversation.

Or you can take Galata area, near the Galata Tower. You may get there in 15 minutes by walking. There are new shops and cafes await you.

What about neighborhood? Cezayir Street, also known French Street is 25 steps up. You cannot find anything French, but lots of cafes and restaurants offers variety of courses from Turkish and international cuisine. In the street there are singers playing guitar and sing popular Turkish and English songs in the evening. This ambiance attracts tourists and natives together.

Of course entertainment is not the only thing we have. History begins from our building and street. In Tophane, the old arsenal building, the Mosque of the Admiral Kilic Ali Pasha, Modern Art museum and the new art galleries are some of attractive places you would like to interest.

By following the tram line you can get Galata Bridge, with a great view, some oriental and makes you feel you are in a fairy tale especially in the morning or near to the evening. There are fish restaurants under the bridge or near the ports also. BalikEkmek-Fish&Bread; would be a good meal.

On the way to the bridge, there are several old churches, which are hundreds of years old.

After the bridge you get Eminonu. This journey takes 20 minutes maximum by walking. Or you can take tram of course. Eminonu is where the Spice Bazaar is. We call it Egyptian Bazaar.

You want more? You will have it.

Go left from Tophane. After 2 tram stop you get Kabatas, where the ferries go to Prince's Islands. Except winter, the islands offer an experience about living in another world in Istanbul, without kaos and crowd of cars. There are 2 type of ferries. Seabuses and ferries. We recommend open ones, because you will have opportunities to feed the seagulls with simit. What is simit? It's a kind of bagel with sesame on it. Very crispy. And the best ones are being baked in our street, Bogazkesen. For islands one day would be enough.

From Kabatas you may take buses to Sariyer, near the edge of Bosphorus. There are several villages after and after with old neighborhoods on the coast with fish restaurants and cafes, and parks to sit near the sea. Ortakoy, Bebek, Emirgan, Yenikoy, Sariyer. Without taking tram, you can walk to Kabatas in 15 minutes, and get a bus to go the villages above.

After Kabatas, it is Dolmabahce, where the last Ottoman Palace is. Very decorative.

We may show you around, if you don't know anything about the neighborhood, when you get here.

So, lots of words to attract your attention.

We have some more space to write something, but why don't you come here to explore the others?

Thanks for visiting.

Zeki Pasha, a top ranked general in the Ottoman Army, who died just before World War I, who was my grand grand father, had left the building to his children. The building was home for our family for a long time. Now, the building is a great opportunity to meet people around the world. We have 7 flats in the building to host you. Me and my wife Evrim were admen, in 2007 decided to change our life, and quitted our jobs. She had a course for baking and baked brownies, muffins for a year, I was the one delivered them. In the same time, I was trying to keep on doing advertisement as a freelancer. One other thing was keeping the antique shop from my father. But after a while we realized that we need to focus on accommodation. A divided establishment was not bad for managing the life for a while, but then it became the most tiring activity, then we closed the other runs and now we are only make people resides in our apartments.

This is still about establishing our life. We are helping each other for everything to build it. Me and my cousin still renovating the building and around. Thanks God and thanks to near 2200 people who has chosen us, we can.

Aydin Balcik purchased this apartment in 1900

I was born into this neighborhood. It was not an investment, it's our family heritage. In 2004, an investor has come to our street, bought, hired some buildings, made people come together and they all together transformed the street into an entertainment area. Now we have cafes and restaurants around the street. It's colorful and lively now. On weekends hundreds of people visit our street, to have coffee, wine, to make some conversation and to be entertained. There are singers sing romantic songs in the street. Some other programs offers more cheerful songs especially on weekends. From our side, this street gives an exceptional Istanbul experience with us.

We are in the middle of everything. History, nature, urban life, progress, fashion, entertainment, traditions, culture, food, neighborhood, mosques, churches, schools, people around the world, comfort. Everything is in walking distance. Istiklal Street, the most famous street in Istanbul with it's cafes, restaurants, drink houses, movie theaters, shops, bookstores, old style architecture, and people around the world, is in 5 minutes walking distance and near 24 hours alive. Besiktas, Dolmabahce, Eminonu, Sultanahmet, Hagia Sofia, Grand Bazaar. All destinations a tourist should visit, all in walking distance too. If any property is not in our district, it cannot offer comfort about transportation and an atmosphere surrounds you with a great smell of history and heritages of empires.

The apartment is exactly as described even better! Location is perfect, tons of restaurants, bars, nice small antique shops, coffee shops, museums, boat ferries etc. The owner and his wife are very champing and helpful. The owner (Aydin) even took me for a tour of the neighborhood when I arrived, pointing me to nice local spots to try out. They also provided me with a nice map pointing me to must try local restaurants, hang-out etc. Better than the tourist-purchased map!

Although you can take the tram (using a metro card provided by the owner!) the walk to sultanahmet is not long at all, I walked every time.

I highly recommend this flat to anyone. Myself will for sure book it when I return to Istanbul!

Loved staying here in this historic district, yet so convenient to everything. Aydin and Evrim were great hosts and helped us in many ways: by picking up and returning us to the airport, giving us maps and suggestions of things to see and do and generally making our stay as good as it was. The apartment is clean and spacious and we really loved our week as 'locals' . Highly recommended

Great place to stay and learn a neighbourhood

We stayed for a total of 10 nights, from June 8-9 and then again from June 14-22 and appreciated that Aydin was able to accommodate the split schedule. Great area in Istanbul to stay, easy to reach the important tourists spots in the old city, but far enough away to feel like you are living in a true neighbourhood. Lots of great restaurants and shops close by as is Istikal street, a mostly car-free pedestrian-filled boulevard. Lots of great walking.
Very comfortable apartment, clean, lovely wooden floors and high ceilings, working AC which was very handy since some nights were very hot & humid. The apartment is very airy and light-filled. Aydin was an excellent host, took us for a walking tour in the area so we learned our way around & provided a map which listed local restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops etc. I'd recommend renting this apartment to anyone who wants to be both a tourists and a traveller.

Such a convenient location for my Istanbul trip

My host, Aydin Balcik, made this trip to Istanbul a very memorable experience. I have used a number of short term rental services and I am always apprehensive about whether the offer matches the actual accommodation. So I would say that the details about Aydin's vacation rental certainly exceeded my expectations. It was larger than I expected, everything worked as described, and Aydin made sure that I had everything to insure a great visit to Istanbul. Because of his experiences hosting many visitors, he had created maps and tourist documents so that I felt I had lived in the neighborhood for some time. He even provided a walking tour to see, first hand, some of the key businesses in the area.

I would highly recommend another stay with Aydin and believe he can help make your vacation a step up because of his personal touch and informative knowledge about Istanbul.

We stayed two weeks in this abolutly recommendable apartment in the centre of istanbul in an very moving time. We felt very welcome and at home. Everything in the flat was like shown on the pictures. To start with we got a personal "introduction" by a walk with Aydin through the neighbourhood of the apartment with lots of tips and hints for nice places to eat, for a coffee...and for not to get lost we got a little map that was created by themselves! This gave us a very "safe" feeling as it was our first stay in istanbul. They also gave us lots of infos about interesting trips around the bosporus so that we could get organized very well. We loved the friendly atmosphere during our stay and enjoyed to talk with aydin an evrim. We would love to come again.
