I highly recommend Carriage House. It is beautifully furnished, very well kept and clean and really convenient. Walk a block or so and have breakfast, lunch, dinner or find fun night life. On Saturday we had a luncheon for 15 and our guests loved the house. It is a great place to entertain as well as spend the weekend. The bedrooms are nicely furnished and comfortable and were a welcome sight after enjoying the Austin night life. This is a first class place to have an event, spend the weekend or do both as we did and combine an event with a weekend stay.
The landlord was a delight to work with and so willing to do whatever it takes to make our weekend perfect.

The Carriage House is darling! It's spacious, it's comfortable, and the high end touches are lovely. My family came into town and stayed at The Carriage House, where I also hosted a baby shower for my sister, in early December.

The home is extremely comfortable with high end sheets, bedding, pillows, towels, etc. The owners have obviously paid a lot of attention to the details. My family was very comfortable there. There is plenty of room for a large party to spread about throughout the house. The largeden upstairs was very comfortable. The guys caught the ball games and were happy.

The living room downstairs features a nice seating arrangement around a coffee table and there's also a chinoisere table that seats 4. Because it was Christmas there was a great tree, dressed classically in white lights.

We were able to set up our luncheon on the antique buffet. I was very excited that we were able to seat 12 ladies at the long chippendale style dining table. It was really nice for us to all be able to sit together for the baby shower luncheon. (There's room to easily seat 8 more in the living room, if needed.) There is a pretty big caterer's kitchen with new stainless appliances that was very easy to work with. We had the luncheon catered by Whole Foods, which was convenient because the store is literally a few minutes away and within walking distance. (I brought WF my silver trays and they set up platters of sandwiches, cheese, fruit, etc.) Plenty of room for guests to arrive and comfortably mill about with a mimosa. We used the wine and champagne glasses that were in the kitchen - and there are plenty of them. The shower was elegant.

My family loved the location. We were able to walk just a few steps and have dinner at Ranch 616. Drinks at the Rattle Inn and Star Bar, which are within a stone's throw. In the morning, everyone walked across the street to Sandra Bullock's adorable bakery, Walton's, for pastry and coffee. We also walked to her other restaurant, Bess Bistro, and enjoyed that. Ate at Z Tejas, which is right down the street. Too bad we ran out of time for The Hoffbrau! Also, great shopping.

I'm not aware of another rental home in downtown Austin that can offer up such a elegant, traditional, classic place to host your family and also a luncheon for friends! We were able to accomplish both with style and ease. So much better for us than a hotel. Thanks for such a special place - we all loved it!

The Carriage House was the perfect spot for my husband and I to host a dinner for friends while we were visiting in Austin. Having lived for so many years in Austin, I needed a place to host long time friends in a warm and intimate space. Restaurants can be so loud and impersonal. At the Carriage House we had a place to relax, visit, and have drinks and hors d'oeuvres before moving to the dining room. It was so much easier to laugh and relive old times, without worrying about disturbing other people. The furnishings and appointments were beautiful. It was truly home entertaining away from home. We are looking forward to our next trip to Austin, and the next time we will be staying at the Carriage House!

The family of this writer/reviewer recently had a very satisfying stay at The Carriage House. With a large contingent of extended family in Austin, my family and I made a pilgrimage to “Capitol City” to celebrate our mother’s 90th birthday. At The Carriage House we experienced a refreshing getaway in a luxurious, yet domestic, environment. Our matriarch honoree was able to negotiate with ease the downstairs master bedroom and adjoining bathroom (it has a shower, rather than bathtub). The rest of our group slept in the two bedrooms upstairs. All of the beds equaled those of finer hotels, and were fitted with bedding that will likewise be recognized as top notch. The T.V./lounge room upstairs had sleeping areas for more guests (a trundle bed and pullout sofa), although we did not use them. Still the television got a thorough workout, with non-stop football. The downstairs living room and formal dining room allowed us to greet and gab with our cousins, as though we were in the parlor of a fine Southern home. Indeed, when on the property itself, we had to remind ourselves we were in cozy downtown Austin, not New Orleans. The areas downstairs were appointed with elegant yet sit-in-able furniture, and the dining room table seats a big crowd. The kitchen downstairs was as handy as it was utilitarian. We parked right in front of the house safely and without cost. While we did not patronize them, we could easily have wandered a few short blocks to the several nearby downtown clubs and restaurants. Still, the neighborhood was quiet enough at bedtime that we were not disturbed by the proximate nightlife. In sum, we likey. Alot.

My family used the carriage house as our home base in Austin when my mother died recently. Not only were we all able to stay together in the heart of Austin, but the property managers pulled together a first class reception in the elegant living-dining area, complete with magnificent catering and wait staff. This would make an ideal venue for a wedding party or for any kind of entertaining, with or without an overnight stay. The beds were extremely comfortable, breakfast was available, and the location was about the best I've seen in Austin, with trendy restaurants and night spots in close walking proximity, right the midst of Austin's historic district. The state capital is a fifteen minute walk away. When I take a weekend stay in a city, I want to be in the heart of the city and soak up the atmosphere that makes the city a worthy destination. The carriage house is uniquely located to do just that in one of the most desirable tourist destinations in the US. I recommend it without reservation.
