Bagni di Lucca Villa Rental Photos and Description
7 Bedrooms, 6 +1/2 Bathrooms Sleeps 14

Villa Lavanda is a completely reconstructed villa above the Tuscan village of Bagni di Lucca - 35 minutes from the walled city of Lucca. The house - with its 13m pool, hot-tub, pizza ovens, bocce is surrounded by olive groves and fields of lavender and is furnished with antiques, contemporary, traditional & ethnic art and furnished - and used - by the owners as a principal residence. Daily housekeeping is included in the rental. There is a library of books, satellite TV and internet service, 2 phone lines, multiple music systems, a gourmet kitchen with all appliances. The house looks out over Tuscan hill-towns, protected chestnut forests and the Serchio valley. It is 5 minutes - by car - from the town ---- which has shops of all types, supermarkets, and an emergency medical service.

After many years of searching,we bought the property - with the house as a ruin - and spent two years undertaking a complete renovation. because this is a home to our family, we have continued to upgrade and update both the interior and mechanical features. As we split our time between the US and Italy, the villa is our home and is not furnished as a rental property. It contains a portion of our contemporary & ethnic art collection, antiques and carpets, as well as large library, music, DVD and CD collection.

Jonathan J Cohen purchased this villa in 1989

The villa has a special sense of peace and privacy with an ideal climate and environment. The grounds are extensively planted with terraces of lavender and rosemary, while the courtyards have pots of azaleas, gardenias, lemons and camellia. The quality of both the air and water is extraordinary, and in the warm months, the days are hot and sunny, while nights are generally cool and comfortable. (Bagni di Lucca first became famous in the 18th C as the favored Summer spa resort for British and Russian nobility because of the cooler, more comfortable nights.) Besides the decor, the villa equipped to provide every convenience from wireless internet service in most areas; telephone, fax, printer/scanner and laptops are provided. Laundry has 2 washing machines and dryer; up-to-date heating and electrical systems (you can use multiple appliances simultaneously); a gym, Satellite TV and multiple CD players & iPod connections. . The owners both cook and the (two) kitchens are fully equipped, with microwave, food processors, espresso machine, toasters, coffee-makers, 6-burner stoves etc The large 13m x 6m, mosaic-tiled pool is equipped with a salinator purification system, while the large - 8 person - hot - tub is enclosed in its own, separate, completely private, enclosed courtyard. There are board games, a grass bocce field, and ping-pong table. The Italian/Scottish housekeeper comes in daily and is a remarkable resource for getting familiar with the attractions of the area. The house is only 28 Km from the extraordinary walled town of Lucca with its surrounding vineyards, olive orchards, classic gardens and villas; while the Cinque Terre, Florence, Carrara & the fashionable seaside resort of Forte di Marmi are all easily accessible.

The house offers a unique sense of privacy and quiet both outside - and in. The panoramic views from both the house and grounds are unique. In particular, the giant window in the living room - which is kept open all Summer - and which looks out and over hill-towns and the Garfagnana valley opens up the living room to the views. Views from the pool terrace are even larger. There are multiple seating/eating/living areas in the house and grounds, so guests can always find a private spot to read or relax. No traffic disturbs the tranquility - and the lavender terraces perfume the grounds. A superb chef is available by arrangement as is an excellent masseuse.

The house is furnished as a family home with large, and eclectic, collections of contemporary and ethnic art; antique furniture and oriental rugs; a large library and collection of films (European and American)

We produce our own olive oil, honey and provide guests with the use of our large, organic, orto (vegetable garden) during Summer months.

Pizzas may be baked in the 18th century outdoor oven -- and eaten at one of several outdoor dining areas - and the layout of the house provides for 3 of the smaller bedrooms - along with a large living room and 2.5 bathrooms to be relatively separate from the main living areas...ideally suited for families with children as they can have their own living/play areas along with separate entrances to this area, courtyard (with ping-pong table) and gardens. While the village of Bagni di Lucca - with its stores and supermarkets - is a five minute drive away, the house is in a completely secure location with its electric gate, long driveway, burglar alarm and farmer neighbors who live close by ... but essentially invisible to guests.

The PERFECT Tuscan holiday

The villa is situated just outside and above the beautiful small town of Bagni di Lucca, up a long private drive through an electronic gate and thus entirely private.
To describe the location as beautiful or direct you to the photographs would not begin to do justice to the surroundings. Views in both directions along a sweeping, wooded valley guide the eye to three hamlets perched atop hills; deer are regularly seen at the beginning and end of the day as they sneak out from the forests that carpet hills on all sides. Inside the villa all is cool and calm. The owners' extensive contemporary and ethnic art collection along with several walls of books make this feel entirely unlike a rental and exactly like a home from home. The bedrooms are all large, all beautifully decorated, all comfortable - there are no duds. And the house is HUGE. Huge but comfortable, with countless different places to sit and eat, both inside and out, large and small, to read or just escape for a snooze. It really is like a kind of magical castle made for rest and relaxation. The house is tended to daily by Anna Maria and her team and is thus spotless, whilst this wonderful lady's tips and local knowledge are akin to the finest concierge service one could possibly hope for. The pool and grounds are also beautiful, the hot tub luxurious...I could go on. If this all sounds overly like a gush then that's perhaps understandable but I can assure you that you will struggle to better this place anywhere in the world. My time on holiday with the family is precious and booking a holiday is always somewhat of a risk - does it really look like the photos? Will it be a good fit for our family? - but please be entirely assured that ( unless you like paired-back modernity) this place is truly wonderful and I am already looking forward to our next opportunity to book a week or two in this Italian Paradise.

My husband, son and daughter-in-law and I spent a week in August 2011 at Villa Lavanda and enjoyed every moment. It is serene and tranquil, and with a car we were able to enjoy day trips and hikes to many surrounding areas. It was a great place to cook and experiment with food, excellent customer service and the weather was great. We would highly recommend it!

Villa Fronzola is a unique property set on a sunny hillside above the picturesque town of Bagni di Lucca about 30 minutes drive from Lucca. everything you need can be found in Bagni and Lucca itself is an easy drive for more shopping and restaurants. The owners have impeccably restored the villa's stone walls, tile floors and beamed ceilings, not to mention the ancient pizza oven, and added numerous amenities including a pool, hot tub, and outdoor areas for dining and relaxation.

the setting is quite beautiful and bucholic with sun most of the dayand great vistas across the valley.it is very peaceful and tranquil with ample opportunities for walks in the immediate area.

the house itself is amazingly well furnished with a combination of tasteful african and contemporary art from the owner's collection. there are also numerous comfortable living spaces for when one just wants to get away and read or nap. the kitchen is fully equipped and easy to navigate. probably the most incredible experience we had was dining in the Great Living/Dining Room with the moon coming up over the hillside beyond the large (and open) picture window.

Fronzola is truly a special place for a family or group of friends to enjoy tuscany with as much seclusion as one wants and proximity to many of the attractions in the greater Lucca region. we loved it!

Villa Fronzola is a beautiful, comfortable home high in the hills looking out on beautiful views. The furnishings, art, and libraries all make you feel completely at home; great care has been taken by the owners to make the villa both comfortable and personal. In our first visit our greatest challenge was deciding where to be given the many opportunities to be in beautiful and comfortable settings inside and outside. We were a group of 5 couples. The spaciousness and arrangement of the rooms make it possible to easily have privacy as well as time together with other members of your group. While the villa is well located as a base from which to make interesting day trips, we found we wanted to stay put most of the time, savoring our time there as much as possible. This fall we are returning two years after our first visit and expect to return beyond that visit. Be sure to arrange for Paola (contactable through the owners) to come in to prepare and serve at least one (or more!) of her fabulous dinners for you.

the most remarkable home I have experienced

This villa is located a few kilometers outside of Bagni di Lucca, halfway up a hillside planted with olive trees; its amenities are accurately described ; what's not mentioned is the abandoned hilltown at the top of the hill begind the villa--resonant and eerie, or the wonderful hikes you can take on the local road to other picaresque, smaller hill towens; day trips to Lucca,Pisa and Florence are easily mangeable, and even in the dead of winter, the pizza oven on the patio just outside the kitchen was a source of great fun. And the kitchen is outfitted with an first rate espresso maker that even prudces the steamed milk for the those requiring their hourly cortadas or capucchinos.. The only decision you have to make each day is whether you really want to leave this amazing home for some sigh seeing or whether it might not be just as much fun to stay where you are .

A WEEK UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN

The villa is beautiful, the views gorgeous, the pool majestic and the memories unforgettable! There were difficulties with the hot tub, but not with the outside pizza oven. The masseuse excellent, the housekeeper very dear and very helpful, the experiences priceless. Day trips to Florence, Cinque Terre and Lucca sprinkled our pool side days of leisure perfectly...I was actually rested from my villa vacation rather than exhausted from city after city of hustle and bustle. Cooking, dining, reading, swimming and sleeping were all done in peaceful elegance.
