Plus, if you are driving, you will have a reserved, free and safe place to park when you return each day!
Captain's Quarters also is perfect temporary lodging for those on military, corporate or diplomatic assignments -- with ample space for an extended stay, a washer, dryer and storage area). The location is ideal for accessing Washington, DC; Crystal City; the Pentagon; Ft. Belvoir, National Harbor, and other locations in the DC-northern Virginia area via foot, bike, car, bus, Metro rail, taxi or water taxi.

In case you are new to Old Town: It is nationally recognized for its early American architecture, boutiques, art and antique galleries, historic sites and award-winning restaurants. Founded by Scots in 1749, Alexandria quickly grew to become a bustling and wealthy seaport. In 1796, the Duc de Liancourt declared Alexandria “the handsomest town in Virginia – indeed it is among the finest in the United States.” Today, one popular tourist guide has this to say: “Older than Washington DC itself, Alexandria, Virginia, is a historic city that melds the charm of yesteryear with attractions desired most by visitors today, including top restaurants, chic boutiques, interesting art galleries, lively bars, and notable sights” (Moon Travel Guide, 2012). At least 75% of Alexandria's stores, restaurants and spas are locally owned and can't be found anywhere else!

Captain's Quarters is owned by an international development manager (Luz) and a retired captain (Steve) whose Navy career took him from the cornfields of Indiana to assignments in the Caribbean, Italy and the Mediterranean, Japan and the western Pacific, and Hawaii. In between were several assignments in the Washington DC area, where Alexandria became a favorite hangout -- combining history with friendly people, good restaurants and plenty of activities. Now we live 30 miles away on the Chesapeake Bay and use Captain's Quarters as our city 'retreat.'
It's a calm, quiet and safe oasis sandwiched between the bustle of Washington DC and the tourist attractions, shopping, restaurants and nightlife of Old Alexandria. Captain's Quarters is one of only 38 townhouses in the development. The architecture echoes the late 1700s but the homes have the inside amenities of 1977-78 when built. In front of Captain's Quarters is a private street and cul-de-sac where children ride bikes and draw in chalk on the street. In the back is a small city park with room for soccer or a baseball game. One end of the park is devoted to a fenced children's playground with swings, slide and elevated playhouse. As one of our rental guests commented in our guest log, the park is 'a true neighborhood gem.'
Work, play or tour all day in Washington, Alexandria or the surrounding area -- and then come home to peace, comfort, friendly neighbors, and nice shops, restaurants and bars nearby.
The home itself has plenty of space for 6 adults or for families of up to 8 if the optional queen bed is set up in the family room.
