Let me start by saying that I value reviews and I wish there had been more when we booked our reservation. I will try to be fair and honest. There were some good things about this property, but unfortunately some not-so-good as well.
We arrived to find construction of a new house mere feet from the property line. A small dozer and lots of dust. The builder said he would try to be quiet during our stay. He was...until later when the huge well-drilling equipment was delivered. And when the drilling started it was loud and vibrated the entire house.
This was not our idea of a relaxing vacation. Although I had been in contact with the owner in the days prior to our stay regarding an algae issue in the lake, there was nothing mentioned about the construction. (side note: the info states that the owners live "close by on Hayden Lake". Yep - right next door. We never saw them once during the entire week we were there.....were they offering us privacy or just avoiding us? Not sure... it just felt strange.) We kept busy and away from the house as much as possible.
The house sleeps 10, however, the furniture in the living area seats 5 (it's not the same furniture as pictured above). The dinette area was also small. There were 7 in our group and we moved deck furniture inside to make due when it rained.
The property location is in a lovely area of Hayden Lake. Silverwood is close by as well as hiking trails and Lake CDA. The deck and lower patio are beautiful with very nice views of the lake. The kitchen is clean and well-stocked as were the 2 bathrooms.
The master bedroom is in dire need of updating. The bedding was very dated and worn. (I don't require luxury, but I would not use that for my guests - let alone the paying public.) The lampshade on the bedside table was brown and warped because someone used too hot of a light bulb. (tacky) - find a sale and replace a few things. There is a pool table downstairs if you don't mind a musty, unfinished basement.
In summary, we felt a discount should have been offered due to the construction. It was not the peaceful lake front vacation we had envisioned or paid for. Oh, and if you stay here, bring your hairdryer - we had to buy one.

Owner's Response: Carol, we value your review. Thanks for taking the time to provide your comments. The house construction next door was something we thought had been managed as much as possible. We had made an agreement that the well driller was not to show up until a three day vacancy left open right after your stay. Unfortunately, he showed up early. I am sorry that your peace and relaxation was affected.
We try to be available for needs that might arise during your stay, but otherwise we prefer to leave guests with their privacy. We can be reached via email, phone call or a knock on our door. I was out of town during your stay or I might have come over to say hi and discuss the construction situation.
The leather couch and loveseat were replaced brand new prior to this summer rental season, as was the refrigerator. We strive to have functional and nice decor in the house. Thanks for the feedback on seating capacity. We will look at adding a chair to the living room. The bedding in the master BR was also new this year but did not hold up to the rigors of repeated laundering. We are revising our bedding program for 2013 and have just purchased duvet covers for the master and queen bedrooms that will be freshly laundered for each guest.
We have also added a hair dryer in each bathroom.
We work hard to provide a nice family environment in a classic lake cabin setting. At a good value. Thanks again for your comments, which will help us to refine this effort.

My family & parents thoroughly enjoyed the location of this property! It was quiet, calm and serene with abundant fish to catch, birds to watch and even the occasional deer. It was far enough from the hustle & bustle to truly make it a relaxing experience, yet close enough for a trip to the Hiawatha Bike Trail, Silverwood Theme Park, Spokane shopping or a day checking out Couer d'Alene. With our own private decks & dock, time spent on the water was an easy & fun way to spend hours. Although the weather was hot, there is enough shade to keep the viewing areas & house cool (a/c helped too)! Thank you Gil & Rita for opening your house up to us!

So relaxing!

We rented this place for 4 days this summer. It was perfect!! Nice and clean, very livable with kids. We had our own dock to swim and play off of to our heart's content. The best part was the concrete area between the house and the dock- much relaxing there, followed with smores in the firepit. Gil and Rita were wonderful! We are a family of 5 and shared the house with another family, and didn't feel cramped. We will rent the house for at least 6 nights next summer. It was very hard to leave- we could have moved in and stayed permanently.

Thank you so much for making this home available to rent! And a BIG thank you for making it available to rent for less than a week. Most don't. Many people can't take a full week off of work to get away to the lake and a long weekend is absolutely perfect!
I would absolutely reccomend this home and this lake! As it said in the description, this lake is the perfect size! We spent a lot of time on the water floating, swimming and in the boat and had so much fun! There is a restaurant on the lake accessible by boat or car with a full bar and good food. There are also only two boat launches on the lake, but one is only a few docks down from the house! Absolutely perfect! Easy even for a group of ladies!!
Also wonderful to watch the wildlife. Eagles, deer, ducks, geese, fish - all visible in one weekend!
The house, bedrooms, kitchen, yard, deck are exactly what you need for a relaxing weekend! I would recommend this home to any group of people!
Thanks again Gil and Rita! My girlfriends and I desperately needed a weekend away and you made it possible! Now back to real life with a bunch of toddlers....
