America's only living-coral barrier reef, which runs the length of the Florida Keys, begins about five miles offshore. Teaming with colorful tropical fish, underwater gardens and shipwrecks, alligator reef is 4 miles away. The Florida Keys is world famous for fishing, diving and snorkeling. Anne's Beach is 3 miles south. Public free boat ramp 2 miles north. Restaurants: Islamorada has some of the best seafood restaurants in the Florida Keys. Some of my favorites are Pierre's, Morada Bay, Islamorada Fish Co., Island Grille, Lazy Days, Ziggie's and Mad Dog's, Uncle's, Spanish Gardens, and many others.
Shopping: Islamorada has many boutiques and small charming shops. Wide World of Sports, also in Islamorada, has some of the best outdoor clothing and fishing equipment in the area. They also have a life-size aquarium and a replica of Hemingway's boat inside the store. It is a must see.
Sports: For the active vacationers, Islamorada offers many activities: Snorkeling, fishing, water skiing. You can rent a boat, Kayaks, or even swim with the dolphins.
