View the iconic Golden Gate Bridge from your penthouse room and decks. Walk to the Saint Francis Yacht Club or hundreds of restaurants. Jog throught the Predidio. Or enjoy a quiet night at home just blocks from the bustle.
It looks like a traditional San Francisco home on the outside but inside it's a contemporary architectural work of art with Golden Gate Bridge Views. Warm walnut floors and thresholds and soft furnishings make this contemporary home very warm and comfortable. The architecture is so striking that the home has been featured in magazines, on French TV and on the American Institute of Architects home tour.
The ground floor has a separate living room with antiqued mirrors and a gas fireplace. The dining room has a beautiful custom table that expands to seat 12 comfortably surrounded by soft, padded walls. Next to the dining room is the sleek kitchen, a mix of wood, Carrera marble and glass. The appliances are state-of-the-art. Dinner wear, glass wear and serving wear is ample for any occasion. The kitchen and dining rooms open to the family room. It has a large wood-burning fireplace, large lounge area and huge sliding doors that open onto the deck and the beautiful, level back yard. The powder room finishes off this floor.
The back yard has a deck with chairs and sofas covered by a glass deck above. The water wall pours down the side before pouring over the steps into a long pond. At the end is the fire pit, rising out of the water. It's surrounded by seating and a large picnic table. The built-in gas BBQ and outdoor range are great for outdoor entertaining or just cooking a great meal.
An open, metal staircase with glass rails leads up 2 floors and is capped by a huge skylight letting in lots of natural light. The second floor holds 3 bedrooms and two of the bathrooms. The two front bedrooms have perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge. One has a queen bed and the other has bunk beds and is decorated in a safari theme for kids. The guest bathroom on this floor has a tub/shower with a large and very unique skylight over it. A laundry room has Miele front-loading washer and dryer.
The master bedroom is large with a queen bed, sofa, ottomans and plasma TV. Large sliding doors open onto a glass deck with views of the Bay and Alcatraz and overlooks the back yard. The master bathroom feels like the most luxurious spa you've ever been in. It's sleek and modern with stone of two tones punctuated by a stainless steel tub and double sinks. In the center, a 12 foot tall cube of frosted glass glows from the skylight above-- this is the master shower. Wash your hair watching the clouds drift overhead.
Taking the staircase up another level brings you to the penthouse level with its unique roofline and walls of windows. The front doors slide to open the room completely onto a deck overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and the Presidio National Park, The Palace of Fine Arts, the mansions of Pacific Heights and the Bay. The back windows look out at Alcatraz, the Bay and the buildings of Russian Hill. This room has a very contemporary full bathroom with a glass ceiling. The room has a day-bed that's a full bed that sleeps 2 people. It's open to the stair hall but the penthouse makes a fairly private suite with a view. The wet bar with fridge makes this penthouse playroom a playroom for all ages!
The garage fits two cars tandem. It has a well-equipped work-out room with a weight machine, a Bowflex machine, a stationary bike, Step Mill, free weights, Ballet bar, and a plasma TV for using your favorite workout DVD's.
The home is located in the best part of Pacific Heights/Cow Hollow. The streets here dead-end into the Presidio National Park or Pacific Heights so there's little traffic and noise, but it's walking distance to the Union Street, Chestnut Street and Fillmore Street shopping districts. Jog to the Golden Gate Bridge (about 2.5 miles away along the waterfront promenade), enjoy hiking trails in the Presidio (3 blocks away), visit the Palace of Fine Arts and the Exploratorium (6 blocks away). Dozens of great restaurants, bars and wine bars are within walking distance. The best of San Francisco is right outside your door!
Bus service to downtown and Union Square is a block away. Other buses connect you car-free to the rest of San Francisco, including the museums, Fisherman's Wharf and Golden Gate Park. It's an easy drive over the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods, Pt. Reyes and Golden Gate National Parks, and the Sonoma and Napa wine country. It's the perfect location for exploring San Francisco and the rest of Northern California!
And, the house is powered by solar panels and contains the most energy-efficient appliances if you're concerned about being green.
We fell in love with this house and its great floor plan and location the moment we saw it. We then set out to bring it up to date and went a little crazy, adding a 3rd floor penthouse. Since the house was all torn up, we decided to put it back together in a more contemporary way, opening it up and using beautiful materials in unique ways. We live here with our two children (currently 4 and 6 years old). We love being able to walk everywhere and enjoy eating at the great local restaurants. I jog along the waterfront to bridge or we walk/bike as a family there. The kids love the Exploratorium which is walking distance away. We love walking and will walk to Fisherman's wharf (1.5 miles) or even downtown (2 miles).
We love San Francisco-- the restaurants, the shopping, the museums, the unique homes and views. It's so close to wine country, national parks and forests, beaches, skiing, Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. And the weather's great (we're not in the fog-belt so it clears up almost every day-- and it's beautiful to watch pouring over the hills of Marin and the Golden Gate Bridge. I always loved this part of San Francisco-- it's relatively flat so you can walk/bike easily to the bridge, shopping, restaurants and bars. The streets in our neighborhood dead-end so there's little traffic yet we're in the heart of one of the best neighborhoods close to 3 great shopping/dining districts (Union Street, Chestnut Street and Fillmore). There's a great kid's park a block away and the Presidio National Park is 3 blocks away. I love to jog to the Bridge and, occasionally when I feel like a challenge, over the bridge and back. The waterfront promenade is blocks away and wraps around the entire city-- perfect for jogging, biking, walking, skating, etc. San Francisco is a very outdoors city. The transit to/from other parts of the city is great from this location so you will hardly use your car. If you want to venture out of the city you can be over the Golden Gate Bridge in 5 minutes and in National Parklands, on your way to Muir Woods, Pt. Reyes and Napa and Sonoma. Stinson Beach is a short drive away.
The house is very comfortable and the neighborhood is quiet yet close to it all. The kitchen is great for cooking and the dining room is really comfortable for family or friends. There are a lot of places to just lounge and enjoy the views-- of the beautiful back yard, the Golden Gate Bridge or Alcatraz and the Bay. Much of the furniture is custom-made for the home. The linens and fixtures are the finest European brands. The kitchen, dining room and bathrooms are all well appointed and contain everything you'll need. The house has a state-of-the-art audio system so you can listen to your music (via iPod) or our music/radio/XM anywhere.
