Photos and Description of the San Francisco vacation townhome rental
Townhome, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-5)

The San Francisco Duck’s Nest is a huge, sunny, 2 bedroom, Edwardian flat which has just been completely renovated in 2010. With walnut wainscoting, inlaid oak hardwood floors, fireplace, and polished brass fixtures throughout, it combines classic San Francisco with all modern conveniences. “If you are going to San Francisco”, and want to stay in a home that truly makes you feel warm and welcomed the minute you enter, with a garage and complete laundry room, and/or enjoy running, cycling, or walking in Golden Gate Park, this is the location!

Most folks visiting San Francisco often spend at least a day visiting Golden Gate Park, the de Young Museum, Academy of Sciences, Japanese Tea Gardens, or strolling through the world famous Conservatory of Flowers. There is something nice about getting up, having a cup of coffee at home (or at the coffee shop around the corner), and just walking to the end of the block to enjoy these activities.

Major Amentities & Features: With The Duck’s Nest as your home in San Francisco, you will have a new 40 High Definition television with home theatre surround sound system, complete with DirecTV/HBO/DVR and a video library of 25+movies filmed in SF, computer/printer/WI-FI, new granite counter tops in the kitchen , all new stainless steel appliances (refrigerator, chef range, dishwasher), a laundry room with new front-loading washer and dryer, new LCD television in master bedroom (DirecTV/HBO/Tivo), and a secure garage with extra storage space for large items (gold clubs, bicycles, kayaks, etc.)

The Small but Important Things: You’ll find all the “small but important” things within The Duck’s Nest to make your stay enjoyable, fun, and special. A master bedroom with fireplace, quiet, and romantically secluded in the back and away from the living and dining room, complete with superior linens and regular/memory foam/orthopedic/Euro pillows. A bathroom with 8 sets of elegant bath linens and plush terry cloth robes. A kitchen with small appliances, cooking utensils, a ceiling mounted pots/pan rack, and a stainless steel preparation table with stools underneath so you don’t have to stand when cooking gourmet meals. A laundry room to do your wash while you sleep, cook, or go out for the day or evening. A living room where you’ll choose between kicking back in a cozy recliner, stretching out on a comfy couch with bunches of pillows, curling up in a huge overstuffed chair, or checking out the French pane bay window seat (somehow folks always seem to like doing this!)

A Place That Feels Like Home: So choose from among The Duck’s Nest sightseeing guide books, family board games, or DVDs from our collection of popular San Francisco movies, perhaps something like Escape from Alcatraz or The Rock if you are planning on visiting Alcatraz tomorrow. Toss a self-lighting Dura-Flame log into the fireplace, curl up on the couch and enjoy.

You’re home in San Francisco.

We came to SF for a wedding and wanted a little more space than what a hotel can offer. The Ducks Nest was spectacular. The owner from "beginning to end" was helpful and made the process simple. The home was adorable, well stocked, clean and very comfortable. The neighborhood was convenient to tourist attractions, while making us feel like we lived there. Grocery stores are close, and public transportation is a block away. I hope to return soon, and will definitely stay again! I can't say enough about how happy we were with our choice.

We spent 9 days in SF from Mar 29 - Apr 07. Rob, the owner, is quite a decent guy even though we did not met in person, but will next time : ). He is easy to work with, fast response from the first time contact & super fast to return the security deposit. He is also thoughtful with all the instruction everywhere needed in the house. "Tips & Tools & How to" to make his tenants the most out of their vacation in the city. The property is nice and clean, well managed. Also provided full facilities more than expected and we definitely won't be able to find in a hotel. For short, I felt like staying in cousin home. My favorite is a nice gourmet fresh coffee from Rob to jump start after long day tour. Make sure to have some times to enjoy Rob's decorations & the stories on the wall.

I would say the location is strategic, very close to GG park and easy access to everywhere with public transit. If you have no plan to go out of the city then car is not necessary at all. There are buses to downtown and all tourist attractions, Safeway & restaurants are few blogs away.

The shared garage fits for mid-sized car and a plus for us, 'cause we had many day-trip to outlet malls & US-1 route including visit friend in Calistoga. This was not my first time in SF though, I would say 9 days were not enough really. So happy to find Rob & promise him to get back in 2015. Would definitely recommend the place.

The Ducks Nest in San Francisco is a fantastic place to stay, the location is only a short walk to the Golden Gate Park which is the most beautiful park in SF,the property is close to all the main attractions ,and public transport is close by if you do not have a car, there is a Safeway super market within walking distance.
Rob the owner is a very hospitable host & contacted me on the day I moved in to make sure all was well ,the house is stocked with everything you need ,+ extras such as toiletries, even razors for shaving ,Rob could be contacted at all times & was very helpful & patient when I needed help with operating the tv.
I would highly recommend The Ducks Nest to anyone who wants accommodation in a great location at a very reasonable price.
My family cannot wait to to go back to SF & stay again at The Ducks Nest.

Thanks Rob for a great stay.

We believe our stay at the Duck's Nest made our San Francisco trip our best vacation ever. The decor and setting early 20th century of the apartment gave an authentic vintage California experience. The location was perfect, in easy walking distance to Safeway grocery store ,coffee cafe, restaurants,Golden Gate Park and public transportation. We could be at Fishermen"s Wharf in about 20 min. The benefit of off street parking was a great addition.Rob and Diane ( the owners) detailed notes and personal assistance were TOP NOTCH and enhanced our wonderful San Francisco Stay! Someday we hope to visit The Nest and San Francisco again! Thank You Many Times Over,

Home away from home

Rob has gone out of his way to make his home our home away from home. I've stayed at a lot of properties in Hawaii, Orlando, Washington DC and all across the US. Rob has stocked his home with all the amenities of home and more. It was great to be able to cook an occasional breakfast or dinner, especially with 3 kids and a dog. We walked the dog to Golden Gate Park every day and it was safe enough to take the dog for an evening stroll along the perimeter of the park. I wish I had more time to look at the museums in the park but I did get to take advantage of the free hour for the Japanese Garden within Golden Gate park. It was beautiful.

Not far from the house (definitely within walking distance) is Clement street with a beautiful array of chinese markets and restaurants. Rob recommended Burma Superstar and believe me you need to put this restaurant on your to do list. It was by far my favorite restaurant of the trip. My aunt (who lives in San Fran) - her favorite Dim Sum restaurant Hong Kong Lounge is also not too far away from the house and definitely one bus ride once you get to Geary Street (also within walking distance). Be prepared for long line ups at both of these restaurants but I think San Fran is a foodie city so if you want good food, you have to wait anywhere.

What I love most about the house, is that you can really get to know the city as a native - not just a tourist. You can walk to most places because finding parking is a bit of a hassle in San Fran. You shop at where the locals shop and you really become a part of the city's culture. If you have a car, you can easily get to a number of great neighborhoods by driving down Fulton like the Golden Gate Bridge, Haight Ashbury district, Castro district and Divisdero street (# of funky restaurants and coffee bars like The Mill).

The house is gorgeous with hard wood everywhere. There is basically every kitchen gadget imaginable that you will ever need. It was so convenient to have the washing machine/dryer and the sleeping arrangments were great with one bedroom with a double and a single bed in the dining room. (I know it sounds wierd but it works) and the master bedroom at the back of the townhouse. This townhouse has so much character. The garage is a bit narrow but my Honda Element fit fine. If you have an SUV, it will be difficult but this would be the same for any garage in San Fran I think. Thank you Rob for making our stay special.

Five Weeks In The Duck's Nest Was More That It Was Quacked Up to Be!

Five Weeks In The Duck's Nest Was More That It Was Quacked Up to Be!

We chose the Duck's Nest because of its proximity to Golden Gate Park, and because it is in a quieter part of the city. We spent five weeks there because we needed a long rest, and we had always wanted to see what living in San Francisco was like. Well, the experience exceeded our expectations. The apartment is beautiful and comfortable, with a big, cozy couch and comfortable seating areas, a fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen, quiet sleeping areas, a grocery store 1.5 blocks away, and a number of terrific restaurants and bars, bakeries and cafes, all within walking distance. But best of all is that the Duck's Nest is less than a block from Golden Gate Park, which is one of our country's most diverse and beautiful city parks - it has a mystical nature to it, too, with hundreds of miles of paved and natural walking paths that run through wooded areas, alongside lakes, around conservatories, museums, more. Every day we grabbed our jackets and the dog and spent hours in the park; it was very restful and cheering. The apartment is also minutes from 3-4 bus stops that easily take you to all the action downtown and in the tourist areas. We also appreciated it that the owner was available to us for any problems or questions, and he's quite knowledgeable about the area and has visitor's guides in the apartment, including a binder full of dining options in the neighborhood. We feel so fortunate to have stayed at The Duck's Nest, and highly recommend it for a short or long-term stay.

Christmas at the Duck's Nest

Christmas at the Duck's Nest

Our daughter is living in San Francisco, so my husband, pup and I spent our Christmas holiday at the Duck's Nest. The house was a great escape for our family, there was even a tree decorated for us in the family room. The house was spacious and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked, with spices, utensils and pots and pans, for us to make our Christmas dinner. The proximity to Golden Gate park was great for walking our puppy. We had rented a car, so having a garage was great as we didn't have to fight to find parking the whole time. Rob, the owner, was gracious and available from the moment I made our reservation until we were back at home after our trip. We really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return.

Staying at The Duck Nest is like staying in the home of your childhood friend. The minute you walk in the door you feel like a welcome guest in this warm and cozy home. Rob has taken care of everything for his guests and goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and welcome in the home and city that he loves. The Duck Nest is a block from beautiful Golden Gate Park. Save the park for Sunday when the streets through the park are closed to car traffic. There are many restaurants nearby, our favorite was Burma Superstar. Feel like a true San Franciscan when you stay at the Duck Nest. I highly recommend it!

"Home Sweet Home"

"Home Sweet Home"

The Duck's Nest is the "Bestest little 'Nest' ' to stay in San Francisco. It is like being on vacation with all the comforts of home. Rob, the owner, has thought of everything to make this "nest" perfect; from the heated mattress cover to the heated towels, detail instructions for everything in the home, directions on how to get anywhere you want to go, instructions on how to find bus routes, lists of places to visit and places to eat, a fully equipped kitchen and bath...everything needed for a perfect trip to San Fran. We found a bottle of champagne in the refrigerator to celebrate our trip. The three musketeers (dogs) found treats in the dog bowls. They felt right at home, and loved the park.

The location of the "Duck's Nest" is perfect...only a block away from Golden Gate Park and a block away in most any direction puts you on a bus which will take you any place you want to go. We parked our car for the entire stay and walked everywhere. We were able to venture out in all directions, from the Golden Gate Bridge to downtown, to Pier 39.

It was our first trip to San Francisco. We fell in love with the city.....toured Golden Gate Park from side to side and then took a Segway Guided Tour across the park...a highlight of our trip. We took a bus to golden Gate Bridge and walked across the bridge with people from all over the world. We visited Alcratraz, walked all around downtown, went to the Academy of Science in Golden Gate Park where we learned all about Earthquakes and visited the Rainforest. We had great food at many different restaurants, within walking distance of the "Nest" or a bus ride away. In the evening, we settled in and rested at the "Nest" and watched the Giants play their way to the World Series.

The description and pictures defines the Ducks Nest precisely, everything a guest would need and more. It is stocked with everything possible, is spotlessly clean and very well maintained.

We will return to San Francisco, as it is now on the top of our list of favorite places to visit. We hope, with Rob's blessings, we will be able to once again enjoy the comforts of ''The Duck's Nest".

Just like home!

This is truly an amazing home away from home. My husband and I have rented apartments and cottages throughout the US and Europe but have rarely felt so pampered and welcomed. From the other comments and my conversations with Rob I figured the home would be pretty nice but didn't expect to feel like I never wanted to leave! The apartment is just as pictured on the website and has everything you could possibly need. All the special touches and instructions make this an exceptional property.
We traveled with our standard poodle Teddy who also gave the place high marks since he discovered a treat in the waiting dog bowl before we even made it up the stairs. Hope to visit again.
