"Harborside- The Best Way To See Atlantis"

"Harborside- The Best Way To See Atlantis"
Submitted: October 18, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We just returned from a week at Harborside. My wife and I took our son (14) and daughter (10). We had a great time. We got some great advice here on what to bring, ways to save money, etc., so I won't repeat it all here. Here are a few do's and don'ts from our experience.

Do:
Bring a large suitcase with as much non perishable food as you can. Bring bagels, chips, snacks, peanut butter, mac and cheese, coffee, coffee filters, canned tuna, cereal, snack bars, etc. We had a large roller that we packed full. It was almost empty upon return.

Take the daily shuttle from Harborside to the Super Value grocery store to buy cold goods. They are much cheaper there than at the resort or the small grocery store near the Marina Village. We bought deli lunch meat and cheese, bread, soda, condiments, fruit, frozen waffles and pizza, milk, OJ. The shuttle was $7 round trip and they gave you about an hour to shop. With the stuff we brought from home and the stuff from the grocery store, we ate all our breakfasts in the condo. About half of the time we made lunch and brought it to the pool area. Two nights we made dinner in the condo for the kids and my wife and I went out for dinner.

Buy a couple of value meals at the water park and KEEP THE CUPS. Everything is outrageously priced here, but if you keep your cups, you can get all the soda you like. The dispensers are self service.

Go to Carmines (Italian restaurant in the village) and Virgil's (BBQ in the Cove). Both are rather pricy, but have great service, and great food. Both are family style, so 1 or two entrees is enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. The frozen Margaritas at Virgils are awesome.

Take a snorkel or dive trip with Stuart Cove. They were very good. Saw lots of fish and many Caribbean reef sharks at the 3rd stop.

Definitely go on Leap of Faith and Abyss. Great slides. We love the rapids river as well.

Try to book you taxis in advance. If you don't, you get overcharged. We paid $50 on arrival and $60 on departure. If you book in advance, you can get better deals.

Try out the pool at the Harborside, It's very big, uncrowded and nice. A great change of pace from the madness of the Aquaventure

Don't eat at the Point restaurant at Harborside. Terrible service and mediocre food with a limited menu.

Don't go for a full 7 days if you can help it. 5 or 6 is plenty.
