This two-story garden retreat is an architectural gem located one block from the historic Sonoma Plaza with its shops, restaurants and wineries.
Walk along the curvy flagstone path to the double French entrance doors. Enter into the “great room”. Note the naturally distressed recycled-wood flooring. To your left is the sitting area with fireplace, leather sofa, assorted chairs, and Oriental rug. To your right is an 8 foot long French farm table which seats eight. The fully-appointed kitchen was designed with entertaining friends in mind. Down the hall is a cozy library with stone fireplace, flat-screen TV, and surround sound. The sleeping areas are comfortable and private.
Sit on the front porch and read a book or sip a glass of wine. Gather with friends under the vine-covered pergola. Depending upon the season, the garden features lavender, wisteria, fragrant yellow roses, California poppies, and purple clematis. It is accented by a softly burbling fountain.
One block from Sonoma Plaza: The historic Sonoma Plaza, located one block away, offers the perfect setting for many annual events during the long, summer months. The 8.5 acre city park, complete with duck pond, fountain, meandering pathways and lawns, is the setting for art, craft, wine and food booths on festival weekends.
The Plaza also offers many first class restaurants, delightful shops, and wine tasting. Walk to dinner? Get a massage? See a movie? Buy a good book? Just walk one short block and you are there.
Wine tasting: The wine regions of Sonoma County, and adjacent Napa County (a short drive away), make for a grand vacation any time of year. Indulge your senses in the beauty of the endless vineyard vistas, heavenly local flavors, and magical little towns where you will always feel welcome.
The climate is mild and each season brings its own unique color palate.
Close to 100 award-winning wineries offer tours and tastings -- from famous names to back road treasures.
We're both professionals who live about an hour away from Sonoma. We have many interests, which you will see when you visit Chez Winnie. These include reading, photography, art, cooking, gardening, and, of course, wine!
We chose this location because of it's proximity to the Sonoma Plaza. When we are in Sonoma, we love being able to walk to wine tasting, then go to our favorite restaurant on the Plaza, watch a film at the Sebastiani Theater, and stop at Ben and Jerry's for ice cream on the walk home.
There are many vacation homes in Sonoma, but few capture the unique charm of life in the wine country like Chez Winnie. When you step inside, you will realize that this is much more than a place to stay; it's like living the Sonoma experience to the fullest.
