I spent a month in this apartment and loved it. It is even better in reality than in the photos. Very spacious and clean, great kitchen and bathroom, loads of closet space, terrific heating (necessary during a bitterly cold snap in LA), private and secluded in a stellar location, a real gem.

A few things to note during my stay: there was no CD player or stereo despite those things being listed as available; and the DVD player only played in black and white. The owner had it looked at and insisted it was working fine, but I tried four different discs and it just wasn’t working. Some wine glasses would have been useful, as would a welcome roll of toilet paper, some soap and a few other basic essentials that most holiday rentals supply to get a weary traveller started.

The other main issue was that as the apartment is structurally part of the main house and the divisions are not sound-insulated, I could hear everything going on above me, from footsteps to heavy doors sliding open and closed, to conversations, to dogs barking and scurrying. I was at home more than I normally might have been due to being ill with the flu, and the owner said nobody else had ever remarked on this, but I think previous guests were just too polite and shy to mention it as the noise is inescapable. Additionally, the owner was difficult to communicate with, often not replying to emails, and both the booking and deposit refund processes were painfully slow. She and her husband were, however, mostly friendly during my stay.

Those things aside, this was the most comfortable and luxe holiday rental I have stayed in and if the above issues are not a problem for other travellers, then I would definitely recommend it as a gorgeous place to stay.

I was staying at this property from July 30th till August 19th 2012 with my wife and our newborn daughter Nina. The location can't be better. All attractions like Universal City or Hollywood Highland are within 10 minutes drive. Very easy access to "101" freeway. Supermarkets and high quality restaurants like "Take a Bao" are in the walking distance. Especially pleasant for us was the fact the there was a great possibility for the evening walks along the beautiful quiet streets around the house with a spectacular view over the valley. The property itself was extremely well maintained with all possible features and items person might need. I wish our stay was longer and it was my mistake to change this location to Big Bear Lake. Hope to get back to this spot at Laurel Canyon again one day. Bob and Susan, thank you very much for your cooperation and sensitivity to our requirements. You were the excellent hosts for us.
