Sans Souci is one of the most pleasant B&Bs that I have visited. The setting is spectacular and the room is immaculate. Anne and Bill are very gracious hosts and offer great conversation.

The stay offered a nice refresh for the normal humdrums of winter. We can't wait to return to enjoy the lake.

Definitely a perfect 5 Star experience. My husband and I decided to get away for Valentine's Day, and wanted to look around Smith Mountain Lake area in the off season. After a busy day around the lake, we always looked forward to coming "home"!

And that is the experience you will have. Anneliese is a superb cook who enjoys treating you with a special meal each morning. She is a gracious host with an engaging wit, and we thoroughly enjoyed our many conversations. Looking forward to our next visit in warmer weather so we can enjoy their phenomal dock which has one of the best views at SML.

The guest suite is large with a luxurious bedroom, modern bathroom and a cozy living room. You can't find a better place anywhere!

Sans Souci is defined as "carefree". The property description is right on point and so much more. It truly is one of a kind. Bill and Anneliese are the perfect hosts My husband and I enjoyed sharing a bit of conversation with them daily after enjoying the wonderful breakfasts prepared by Anneliese. Her passion for making her guests feel welcomed is reflected in her culinary skills which are displayed each morning at breakfast.Bill is more than willing to share any information about SML to make your visit an enjoyable one. There are a variety of fine dining and casual lake front restaurants to choose from that are a short scenic drive from Sans Souci, seek and you shall find one that suits anyone's palate. It's a must for the outdoor enthusiast to pack a picnic and go hiking in Smith Mountain Lake State Park. We rented a boat from Bridgewater boat rentals to take in the lake from the waters view... breath taking Fall foliage! Afterwards we shopped in all the little shops that surround the boat rental.Completing each day enjoying the sunsets from Sans Souci's dock each evening taking in the serene natural beauty that SML offers was a highlight to our visit.. My husband and I chose Sans Souci for our 17th anniversary this year and we loved it! The suite is beautiful, well equipped and private. The grounds are gorgeous and also very private. The owners are the most wonderful and gracious hosts you could ask for, providing detailed information about the lake, eateries, and an unbelievably wonderful breakfast each morning. They were so welcoming and warm - even giving us an Anniversary card! We will definitely be back.

As residents of Smith Mountain Lake (SML), we know it's a spectacular place--clean water, varied vistas ranging from beautiful lakefront homes to unspoiled mountain shoreline, a wonderful place for water sports, etc. And we had toured Sans Souci before, so we knew it was a delightful location operated by great people. Still, when we went there to celebrate our 44th anniversary and explore a part of SML that we don't normally frequent, we couldn't help but think how blown away a newcomer would be upon arriving to discover this jewel! Owners Bill and Anneliese Piatt, with their incredible hospitality, are clearly determined to make every guest eager to return to SML in the future--as a repeat guest, vacationer or even property owner. The views of Smith Mountain, the Lake lapping its shores, the dam's sentry islands and the forest preserve shoreline are tremendous--and slightly different from each of the dozen or more appealing places to kick back and relax around the property: beach, dock, upper and lower porches, living room, assorted seating nooks, fire pit and more. For the active, there's plenty to do, including swimming from the private beach, nearby hiking trails, sunning. Consider renting a boat to get a feeling for more of what this spectacular Lake offers. The guest suite is large, bright, comfy, well-equipped and impeccably clean. A sink and coffee maker are in the bedroom, and a large flat screen TV adorns the sitting room. The bath is modern and, like the entire home, squeaky clean thanks to Anna's German-raised standards of perfection. Weather permitting, breakfast is served on a covered porch (be ready to wave and return the greetings of the kayakers who paddle by on their morning exploration of the nearby coves). Anna will ask your preference and then prepare and serve breakfast expertly as Bill shares a wealth of information about SML and the surrounding area. He's a great source of ideas for activities to complement your stay in this lovely home. The website makes Sans Souci sound very appealing but still doesn't do it justice. You have to experience this place to know how great it is...and you'll smile smugly as you read the rave reviews on every page of the guest book, thinking: "Yes, we too were smart enough to ask for--and lucky enough to get!--a booking." Owners were excellent hosts and the suite provided was clean, private and comfortable. Excellent place to unwind and unplug your cell phone. Recommend visiting between April and September. Many restaurants and activities close up extra early or altogether due to summer tourists returning home. Hostess served wonderful breakfasts each morning!

Such a beautiful spot! -- we so enjoyed our short stay at San Souci.
There couldn't be a more perfect spot in the world. Our boat is named "Nirvana II" -- the ultimate state of bliss -- but, we believe we found Nirvana at San Souci -- and Smith Mountain Lake -- perhaps a spot to send the rest of our lives?
Bill was the ultimate host -- we truly enjoyed talking with him -- a very personable, interesting and engaging man. He was very knowledgeable about the lake and helped us a great deal in navigating the area -- knew all the great places to visit and eat! It is clear he has a true passion for SML!
So sorry we missed his wife Ann and her famous culinary skills -- one of many reasons to return -- and that we will -- thanks so very much for a wonderful stay!

Anne and Bill did such a great job making us feel comfortable at Sans Souci (means carefree). The accomodations were fantastic and the raspberry chocolates on our pillows became an anticipated treat. Anne is such a creative cook and everything she made was scruptious; we especially loved her stuffed french toast and her asparagus souflee. Bill is so knowledgeable about the lake and local area and is eager to share that knowledge with his guests. The house is beautiful, has so many unique touches, and sits right on the lake with a beautiful view over looking the mountains. It was the perfect setting for our engagement and will always hold a special spot in our hearts--we will definitely be going back!
