The location of this condo is off a main beachfront road and has heavy traffic due to shoreline access and numerous runners, bikers, etc. However, easy parking and there is no road noise once inside the condo and it overlooks the ocean. The building is dated and somewhat tired looking and the pool area could use some attention - looks worn. The condo itself has a good floor plan, especially for two couples or a family. The views from the large terrace are amazing and sunsets are spectacular - watching the turtles come and go was a rare experience and will long be remembered. The kitchen had new appliances and was well equipped. The living/dining area is large and comfortable. There is a small snack shop downstairs called Da Pokie and it has excellent food!! Take out or eat in - very convenient after a day of sight seeing! The market across the road is well stocked as well - with grocery items, wine and beer. Based on other properties we have stayed at this price point - there are a few comments. A detailed instruction book on how to operate fans, appliances, TV/DVD, local amenities, directions to grocers, movies, etc. would be very helpful. A few maintenance items such as door latches and marked walls - a bit of touch up painting needed. (New carpet in the bedrooms would be helpful in improving appearance). The condo doesn't have air conditioning but does have multiple fans. Bedroom doors needed to stay open at night or it was too warm for sleeping. Not the best for privacy. Having said that - Both bedrooms faced ocean and the waves were nice to hear and see! Overall we had a good stay and appreciated Holly and her responsiveness and helpfulness to our requests or needs.
Owner's Response: Aloha and thank you for your review . . . I'm sorry to hear that there were actually a few things that weren't up to par for you during your stay! I of course would always rather hear about some of these things directly while you're here visiting than in a review later, but I guess that doesn't always happen. Actually, I was very surprised to read the comment about new carpets in the bedrooms, as they are actually quite new! Not even a year old yet. . . .and had just gotten cleaned prior to your arrival, so I'm not sure how to respond other than the carpets are new and in my opinion look quite good. They are the indoor/outdoor type of carpeting, so nothing fancy, but they were a nice improvement. Your visit was around the Ironman event, so the oceanfront road noise and activity was GREATLY increased, so, although there is always some road activity and noise, other readers of this should know that your review and comments come from an extremely busy time of the year with hundreds and hundreds of cyclists and runners on the island for the race. Your visit was also during our hottest time of year (August through October), so when renting a condo in Kona during that time without A/C, you will need to expect the tropical feel, although there is almost always some sort of good cross breeze blowing when staying right on the ocean like that. Sorry it was too warm for you! I definitely advertise this unit stating no A/C and it can make a difference during our warmer season to those that need A/C.
I am aware of and hope to be able to address the smaller details in this unit (like some painting touch-ups and door latches) now that the recent kitchen and master bath upgrades are done. . . . unfortunately, it's tricky being able to get all the little things done in between renters! (It's obviously a very popular unit!!)
