Photos and Description of the Sandusky vacation villa rental
Villa, 6 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 4.5+ Baths (Sleeps 14-30)

The Milan Villa is a very unique, private, 4 story stone structure. This 10,000 square foot destination wedding venue has slate and wood floors, 3 fireplaces, and very large rooms. The villa sits on 26 acres amidst 200+ acres of rolling hills, forest, and our own river, with an interesting dam and stone pump house. Our one acre, 16 foot deep pond has its own sand beach, with a sand volleyball court. Many private nature paths and a vineyard. A large several acre parking area great for camping. The kitchen features a 62' Wolf stove, 2-drawer refrigerator, and granite counters. There is a separate butlers pantry with a high volume ice maker, large Subzero refrigerator, and second dishwasher. We have a large living room, dining room, library, sunroom, and upstairs ballroom. Many crystal chandelier, high quality artwork, and six foot grand piano. This property is in the woods. If wildlife and lack of TV and internet bother you, the Villa is not for you.

The villa is available most weekdays and on weekends when we are not having weddings. We are a birders paradise with songbirds, hawks, and great blue herons. We also have many mammals, including deer, fox, and coyote. Photographers rent our villa for photo shoots. You must see to believe. This is a perfect venue for parties and family reunions. We have many and varied nature trails and unique gardens. The local back country roads are a bicycle enthusiasts paradise.

Most people do not want to leave the property. However, there are many interesting things in the local region. We are one hour from downtown Cleveland, honestly! We are about 4 miles off the Ohio turnpike. Catch an Indians, Cavs, or Browns game. Watch Michigan beat Ohio State in Football at a cool place downtown. Cleveland Heights, Severance Hall and University Circle are about 90 minutes drive. The Cleveland Zoo and Rain Forest are world-class, and about 75 minutes away. Both the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University Medical Centers are about 90 minutes away. The airport is one hour to the baggage claim.

Oberlin is about 30 minutes with more annual concerts than days in the year. Many other fun events are going on all summer in this beautiful college town, also famous as an important underground railroad stop. Milan is birthplace to Thomas Edison, and the perfect 'sleepy midwest town', Expect large parades on patriotic holidays. A museum complex downtown features Edison's birthplace and the Edna Roe Newton Museum, a tribute to the original owners of the Villa with many original pieces and pictures of what was then the Newton Estate.

Charming older home - perfect family reunion venue

I would highly recommend this home as a location for a family reunion. The rooms are spacious and full of character. The pool table in the living room got constant use by our group, as did the library with the fireplace. A big plus is the updated kitchen with ample counter space, double oven, double dishwasher and extra refrigerator drawer. There were enough plates and silverware for our group of 25. Everyone had a bed. We arrived shortly after a big snowfall and were pleased to find the drive plowed, as well as the place ready for our arrival. I did have to call the local caretaker with a question and within an hour or so received a response which was certainly satisfactory.

The property was beautiful with several inches of new fallen snow, and we all enjoyed hiking around and exploring the area near the river and dam.

Were I to try to think of any downside I guess it would be that there is not a bathroom in the carriage house (which sleeps 8) and that area could use a lamp. Nonetheless, we hope to return next year for our get together.

Amazing Mansion!

This is a beautiful, old home! It was amazing and a better price for our family than staying in a hotel. We come to Sandusky every year for a family reunion and this year, I chose to house my immediate family (kids, spouses, grandchildren, and in-laws) in a rental home. The floor plan was spacious and offered quiet areas and gathering areas. The teenagers (and adults, who am I kidding?) loved having the pool table right there and I discovered that my mother in law could play the piano!! The grounds were beautiful and well-maintained, given the shortage of rain this year. It was an adjustment for the kids to give up TV for the long weekend, but somehow, they survived. The house is old, and there is no central A/C, but the fans worked wonderfully, as did the window units. The kitchen was fabulous too! The local property manager was nice and responsive. We plan to go back again!

Family gathering at a unique get-away

The Milan Villa was an excellent venue for our family gathering, The building, grounds and furnishings are elegant and spacious. The house offers a variety of spaces from an intimate conversation area in the solarium to large, open rooms at the front of the house.

The large, professional kitchen afforded room for 4 people to work while talking with 6 other family members. The bedrooms are large, comfortable and quiet. Families with small children needn’t worry about bothering other guests.

90th Birthday Celebration

Milan Villa was the perfect venue to host our mother's 90th birthday party! This gorgeous historic home was extremely well appointed and big enough to sleep our family of 18 comfortably. We were impressed with the home's history, beautiful furnishings and stunning artwork. We found the remodeled kitchen well equipped although the ice maker was not working. Renters should be aware that the bathrooms are vintage but functional with only 3 showers. The home was clean with some maintenance issues that did not affect our stay. Our only disappointment was the weather and the gardens. The younger set took it in stride and went on several soggy hikes anyway. Our mother would like to return when the perennial garden is blooming. Guests at our Open House were stunned as they toured this local treasure. It was refreshing to have a weekend free of electronic entertainment and just enjoy family fun and fellowship. We recommend this quiet, elegant retreat!

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Milan Villa!! It was a beautiful place for our wedding reception. We stayed the whole weekend to provide more time for set up and tear down. Everyone worked well with us to provide clear parameters for rental and check out. I felt very comfortable working with the contacts representing Milan Villa and never felt intimidated. We really enjoyed walking down to the river and to the damn. The area around the villa is so pretty. We would recommend the villa to anyone wanting a romantic getaway and/or people who enjoy nature.

We were glad to find a house that could accommodate our large family of 25. We were pleasantly surpised by the size and quality of the furnishings in the bedrooms and all the rooms. The house is comfortable and quiet. We were impressed with the updated kitchen. We cooked breakfast and dinner each day for 25 people and there was ample storage in the refrigerators. Our request for additional linens was honored quickly. We would definately return. This was a great house in a convenient location for activities in Sandusky and nearby areas.

Duncan Family Vacation

Communication was horrible. We had only 1 towel per person for the week. There were not enough plates and dishes that forced us to use paper products and have an enormous amount of trash (besides the trash that was left by the group before us) The place was dirty when we arrived. We still was charged a cleaning fee. I'm not sure our beds were changed and fresh for our stay. The pond and volleyball was weedy. We had to put up the volleyball net ourselves. The pond was not fit for swimming. There was muck towards the bank and the blueing stained the kids bathing suits. The pond bank and volley ball court was plowed but left dirt not sand. The outdoor lighting to did not work. Fuses blew in other rooms of the house. The owner never appologize for anything. The house is majestic, large and beautiful, but definately not up to code. There were uncovered outlets and no smoke alarms.
Owner's Response: We communicated to this party that our cleaners would be working at check in as a guest had checked out the day prior. It is true that the linens were stripped and the garbage was about as the cleaning crew was working very hard when the guests arrived. It is a very large house and takes about 8 hours to clean. Our crew finished within hours of this parties arrival. The rest of the review is just not true. Everything works we The gardens are professionally maintained. This party smoked in the house seemed upset that there was not enough alcohol within walking distance. They also left over 100 pounds of garbage upon check out and called our hostess incessantly. Good riddance to them!

The photos do not tell the true story of this once glorious old home and grounds. The "villa" was dirty upon our check-in for a three-night family vacation. The Montana owner finally returned a call, but offered no more than an apology for the condition of the place. Six bags of garbage were left in the kitchen from the previous renters. All the bedding and linens had been striped from the beds, but no clean linens were left to make the beds. The kitchen counters were dirty with food remnants. The 4.5 bathrooms were also all dirty. 3 1/2 hours after our arrival the local property manager came to remove the six smelly bags of garbage, put linens on the beds and quickly clean the bathrooms. The downstairs rooms, except the half bath were not touched.

One bathroom is not useable due to a "problem the the plumbing". There were very large cobwebs everywhere. The picturesque pond with "sandy beach" is overgrown with weeds, as is the sand volleyball court. The flower garden were sadly in need of attention. The ice maker was a bonus until we found out it did not work, nor did the two refrigerated drawers in the kitchen.

Our large family did enjoy the time spent gathered together. It was a shame that Villa Milan is not better cared for and that the owner did not offer more than an apology for the condition of the poperty.
