Or perhaps the perfect place for a loving couple to reignite their passion. The professionally designed interior is fresh, light-filled and private featuring our signature look with antiques and contemporary furnishings in a modern playful mix. You will appreciate the high quality bedding, pillows and comforters, an updated kitchen with commercial stainless steel appliances, Master Chef cookware, Wusthof knives and all the goodies. Separate laundry, viewing deck, covered patio, private fenced yard, and inviting Jacuzzi spa with views of the Pacific round out the ample amenities.

The two-level master suite encompasses the majority of the second floor. Lounge with your favorite book on the 12-foot window seat and enjoy whitewater ocean views and glorious sunsets. Then step down to the spacious bath area for a sumptuous soak with the sounds of the crashing waves to help sooth away your worries. The massive California king size bed invites restful slumber with a super high-end Aireloom 'Super Feather Bed' mattress. The second bedroom is located on the ground floor and has access to its own private garden and patio. In addition, on the second floor, is a lofted niche with a full size bed that looks out upon the Sea Ranch Golf Links and acres of natural land on one side and the ocean on the other. The perfect place to escape from someone who snores!

With panoramic ocean views from nearly every window, and acres of wilderness to the east, The Bluffs at Sea Ranch has arguably the best location on the ranch. Adjacent to Gualala Point Regional Park and the town of Gualala the convenience and walk-ability are unsurpassed. The bluff trail along the ocean side of the property serves as your gateway to the great blue Pacific.

Designed and sited to take advantage passive heating and cooling from Mother Nature, you'll enjoy soothing benefits of radiant floor heating with no drying forced air to stuff up your sinuses. The Bluffs at Sea Ranch is a self catering unit. Expendables like paper plates, paper towels and bath products are not provided unless left behind by another party. Save a tree and enjoy your stay. Gas for the BBQ is up to our renters. We supply the BBQ you supply the gas. If you're a good person, you'll leave enough for the next visitor.

All Sea Ranch roads, most facilities, and most trails are private, for use only by owners, renters, and their guests, but visitors who rent our vacation home in the Sea Ranch are considered to be guests of the home owner and, as such, are permitted to use the private facilities and trails of The Sea Ranch. This property is not set up for abalone diving.

About John Matthes

A transplant to Pasadena from San Diego, John relocated in 1989 to attend Art Center College of Design where he was awarded a Master's of Fine Art degree.

John is an expert in marketing historic and architectural properties and holds his fiduciary responsibility to his clients in the utmost regard. With real world experience as the founder and principal of Carciofi and Jinglehyme, he successfully united residential real estate development and interior design; bringing revitalization to local neighborhoods and blighted historic properties through thoughtful renovation and redevelopment. He also owns and manages short term vacation rentals in Pasadena, San Diego and Sea Ranch.

John's prior tenure in the marketing and communications wing of the global institutional investing giant The Capital Group Companies, allowed him to develop broad knowledge of printed and digital media. With this knowledge, he has developed sophisticated marketing tools and programs for selling homes in all economic climates.

A long term resident of the Arroyo, John currently resides in Linda Vista and has had stake in properties located in Prospect Park, San Rafael, South Orange Grove, South Lake, Eagle Rock, The Sea Ranch and San Diego's East Village. He is an active member Pasadena Heritage and The Legacy Circle, a group of Art Center alumni dedicated to raising funds for student scholarships.

Perfect get away

This place had everything we needed for a week of rest: beautiful view, comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, clean and well jetted hot tub, private patio, walks along the bluffs and quiet. ATT has zero reception, but that was also restful! The house was immaculate and very comfortable. We deffinately recommend this beautiful home.

Hi, John,
We enjoyed the house very much and were sad to leave. The place is in excellent condition--the best of any of my previous Sea Ranch rentals. Your eclectic collections of bottles, choppers and assorted do dads kept us entertained and the high end fit and finish made for a pampered feel to our long weekend get away.

We discussed the movie rental/DVD. I contacted the local video store and they no longer rent DVDs. Had we known, we would have downloaded any thing we wanted to watch or brought a player with us (laptops no longer have disc drives!). Was not a big deal--we streamed a flick and used the "buffering" pauses like intermissions.

The Bluffs was just great. I hope we were good renters and would be welcomed back as we talked at length about returning later in the year.

A lovely vacation

We spent a week at the Bluffs, and were absolutely delighted with the entire experience. The location was perfect for us, quiet with gorgeous views and easy access to the coastal trail, and we enjoyed frequent visits from foxes, deer, rabbits, and raccoons. The house is beautiful and comfortable, luxuriously sized for one couple, and we also liked the proximity to Gualala. The Sea Ranch was fun, and we were happy to have brought our bikes and stand up paddleboards.

My wife and I stayed here midweek and off-season for a getaway, and we would come back in a flash. This house is a treat! The interior is open and tastefully decorated, with views of the ocean over the bluff and the woodsy golf course behind. We hung out in the kitchen, baking and cooking. The master bedroom is large and inviting with a huge window seat for reading and keeping watch. One day we had rain all day and loved watching the breaking storm surf. We made good use of the trail along Sea Ranch’s ten-mile coast to the south and to the county park just to the north. John was a breeze to work with. A dynamite retreat!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bluffs and i cant think of a single thing that wasn't provided for us. The cozy kitchen is "Chef" rated with top notch appliances, the decor and furnishings look like they came out of a designer magazine, our bed was incredibly comfortable, oh and lets not forget the views! The "Bluffs" is located just a few yards from the bluffs and hiking trails that can take you along the cliffs edge in either direction and just a short hike to Gualala Point Regional Park with its beautiful beach full of driftwood and amazing sites, a beachcombers delight! Our host was very accommodating and obviously takes great pride in his home... Thank you John and we will be back!!

The Bluffs is the perfect getaway

The Bluffs House is a beautiful, well maintained property. It is the perfect place to go to relax at The Sea Ranch. We loved the location at the North end near shopping and restaurants in Gualala and daytrips up the rugged coast of Mendocino County. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife ( private visits from foxes), deer, hawks and hares. The walking and hiking is exceptional along the bluff trail all the way down to the The Sea Ranch Lodge and very close to the Gualala point park at the most Nosrthern end. We went and swam at the heated pool and sauna which was refreshing and well maintained. The home was cozy with the heated floors and natural sunlight heat each day streaming in through the windows. It was clean and comfortable when we arrived and all amenities were easy to find. Loved that quiet dishwasher and the adjustable mood lighting. What thoughtful planning went into this beautiful house. We sat in the jacuzzi and soaked our cares away looking at the stars. Thanks John and Kevin for sharing your beautiful dream home with us. I can't wait to come visit again.

A very nicely kept property with favorable logistics for varied needs . The living room is small but adequate. The kitchen is sufficient as well. The master bedroom and bath are first rate and both bedrooms had very comfortable beds. My only real criticism is having to take all garbage with you when you leave. I thought for the price we paid for cleaning that should be included. One suggestion, a second door on the gate at the hot tub would make for splendid viewing of the ocean while soaking. The owner was very helpful and prompt with responding to any questions that arose. Overall, the group I came with enjoyed the home immensely and would consider returning in the future.

Owner's Response: Bigger is Not Always Better! We're all about quality here. Think About It. Think About the Planet. We have the property cleaned just before your arrival so everything is fresh and clean. If you leave trash behind, especially food waste, there will be definite effect on local wildlife an a potential of insect infestation. Think about others and the impact we all have in the planet. The timeworn mantra "Live Lightly on the Land" was originated by the creators of The Sea Ranch. So Pack-in and pack-out, together we can leave a better planet for all to enjoy.

I have stayed at over a dozen different house's in Sea Ranch over the years and by far the "Bluffs" has been the nicest! Really a first class experience, Thank you John and I look forward to several future getaway's at the "Bluff" ocean front house.
