My husband and I moved to the country, next to Lake Corpus Christi, in 2007 to raise alpacas. Our farm is called Gulf Breeze Alpaca Ranch (GBAR) and is home to 37 alpacas, 4 sheep, a handful of heritage turkeys, chickens, an angora rabbit, a parrot, 5 Livestock Guardian Dogs (Great Pyrenese) a Border Collie, a Jack Russell, a Terrier Mix, a Chihuahua, 2 cats and a family of 4 humans! We built a fiber arts studio/office/shopon part of the property (31 acres) and I enjoy working with my alpaca and sheep fiber. I prepare most of my fiber myself, from shearing it off the animal to washing, carding and then spinning it into yarn. We have started giving school tours now.
This house has been in my family since it was built in 1956. It holds a lot of memories! When my husband and I decided to move to the country I couldn't bring myself to part with it so I listed it on VRBO and started renting it to vacationing families. I took it off the listing so that my daughter could stay there for a while.
It's been nearly 2 years now and I'm happy to open the house once again to families looking for a safe home away from home.
There are so many things you can do from this location. The Gulf of Mexico is 20 miles to the South, while the Aranasas Wildlife Refuge is about 45 miles to the north, as is the city of Rockport, a hub for artists! Lake Corpus Christi (our stomping grounds) is 45 miles to the northwest.
Dolphin House, as we call it, is located in one of the city's most desirable, established neighborhoods in what is called the 'central corridor' of the city. It is close to shopping centers, restaurants, hospitals and the downtown and Marina areas.
We have a fig vine that has been growing along the fences behind us and along side of us for so many years that none of our neighbors wants to be the one that cuts it! It provides the most wonderfully wild and private area to sunbathe and swim in our pool. The house is located in the middle of the street, which curves slightly just in front of the house. The streed is wide, and while most of the neighbors park in their driveways, the street is wide enough to park on both sides and still have room for cars to pass between.
The bayfront (Corpus Christi Bay) is only 3 blocks from the house and is a popular route for walkers and bikers, as is Center Street, that runs along the center of the addition. There is a lovely shopping center at the end of Center Drive with a restaurant where many of our neighbors can be seen dining.
