Why Owner/Manager chose Calistoga

We purchased the property for the vistas and views. It had an old farm house, garage, stable and hen house, and lots of weeds. It was truly a project of love to develop the property.

We began by planting our Petit Syrah vineyard in 2000. Next we took down the stable and hen house and built a two bedroom, two bath (1000 sq') guest house. We moved into the guest house and donated the old farm house to our local volunteer fire departments for training. They couldn't burn it down because of the beautiful old old trees shading it, but they did train new volunteers on things like cutting holes in a roof during a fire. It was fascinating to watch.

After tearing down the farm house, we began construction on the 3800+ sq' main house in 2004. Our goal was to have a farm house that blended well into the country atmosphere on the outside, but was exquisite and sophisticated on the inside. We think we achieved our goal. We moved in January 2006. The pool, landscaping, wall, fencing took another year, and we still have a few things we'd like to do (a fountain across from the front drive is on the list). Finally, we turned part (400 sq') of the garage into the 'guys' space with pool table, etc. I find women are very good pool players too!

Perhaps the best part of all, is that every window and door looks out to something beautiful. There are many different species of birds that return every year. Butterflies, and hummingbirds love the colorful flowers.

We have lived in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco most of our lives so seeing a clear night sky is both stunning and a celebration.

We pick our herbs and many vegetables from our raised beds. We pick seasonal fruits from our fruit trees, and best of all, we raise a glass of wine from our own grapes to toast the beauty at sunset every night.

What makes this house unique

The beauty of the vistas across the valley floor is breathtaking.

The ever changing light on the mountains to the west, north and east makes the property an artist's dream. Even though we are on flat land and can look across the valley floor, it feels like we are surrounded by mountains. As one travels north in Napa Valley, the mountain ranges on each side get closer and, we think, more beautiful.

More practical benefits include both a steam bath and dry sauna, many wood burning fireplaces, including one outdoors and a kitchen in which any chef would have fun.

Outstanding. Better than advertised. Pictures simply cannot do it justice. We were four couples from St. Louis and could not have been happier with the property, location and owners. Very spacious and serene. It was as if we had miles of vineyards around us with a beautiful view of the surrounding hills and sunset while enjoying the outoddr patio and fireplace. Cannot wait to return.

I am finally pulling together photos, etc., from our OVER THE TOP AMAZING trip to Chez Citron and Napa Valley! Could you please forward you address to me so I can send you a little something I think you might enjoy? :)

We cannot express how incredible our trip was to Napa, and there was nothing better than coming back in the evenings to your "palace". We enjoyed every aspect of your home, from the fire place to the kitchen, to the pool and vineyards. We just cant say enough good things about it all.

Thank you so much for opening your home to us, we hope to be welcomed back on our future trips to Napa Valley.

Spent five super relaxing days at this immaculate property with all the comforts of home and then some. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and made for a trouble free stay.

We were four couples who enjoyed our mornings out wine tasting in the exceptional Napa Valley wineries (ROMBAUER - a fave) and afternoons tasting the wine by the pool or in front of the lovely outdoor fireplace. We ate like kings and queens in the dining room with the French doors wide open to let in the beautiful outdoors. Every night we revelled in another 'perfect' sunset and star gazed (everyone now knows how to find the little dipper!)

P.S. The 'boys' loved the pool table.

We stayed at this beautiful home after the holidays. The gourmet kitchen is amazing, grounds are beautiful and the location is perfect for wine tasting - right off Silverado Trail. We will definitely be going back. Was the perfect get-away!

This place is great. One day of relaxation here translates into several days of reserve energy. Excellent combination of seclusion and proximity to activities, shopping and restaurants in the area. It's a great location to explore the valley(s). The house and guesthouse offer anything and everything needed. The houses and grounds are clearly kept in a clean and proud fashion. It is sophisticated but still feels like home. My return is guaranteed.
