Reviews on the 'Marina District' from San Francisco Gate Newspaper: 'Sunny weekend days are truly dreamy in the Marina, especially down by the water. As far as Chestnut and Union are concerned, just follow this motto: Any day is a good day for shopping; any night, a good night for dining. Overall, this is the land of SUVs, chic fashion and killer spa treatments. Love it, or leave it to the pretty young things who call it home or home-away-from-home.'

Reviews : 'We love walking around Chestnut Street — it's a FUN place to hang out, eat, shop, and people-watch. The area is dotted with great restaurants, hot bars, cozy neighborhood cafés, coffee houses, trendy boutiques, book stores, and specialty shops. It's one of the hottest places in San Francisco, especially at night — the restaurants and bars are buzzing. It's also a very great area for weekend brunch — popular with locals and tourists alike.'

This is a great home for families, friends or small groups looking to see the best of San Francisco. The street is very kid-friendly as it is one of the few streets that does not go through to the major cross streets and is thus quiet. We kindly request only respectful parties. This would not be a good home for any kind of parties or events.

About Jill Russo

My husband and I purchased this home 6 years ago, and lived here with our children. We have since moved to Napa, but expect we will move back into this home, or live there part time moving ahead. It is such a magical location, we just couldn't sell it! There are almost no nice hotels in this wonderful neighborhood, and it is in the middle of the very best attractions and everyday living San Francisco has to offer. We expect others would enjoy this home as we do.

Perfect location - everything is easy!

Seven of us (4 adults and 3 kids) stayed at this property in April 2013. From reading the previous reviews, we had pretty high expectations, and we weren't disappointed. The house is spotlessly clean, large, bright, and well-furnished. The kitchen is stocked with all the utensils & appliances that you could think of, and the laundry was a valued necessity for us after living out of hotel rooms for the previous couple of weeks.

Jill's communication with us was succinct and clear. As we didn't have a US cell phone, we mostly relied on email, which worked fine. The detailed instructions we found inside the house were quite helpful.

The location is absolutely perfect for first-timers to SF. we quickly learnt to use to #30 MUNI bus to get to the Fishermen's Wharf area (and then on to Market Street via cable car, returning via the F-cars); or the #43 to Golden Gate park and the Haight. Restaurants in Chestnut or Lombard St are just a 5 minute walk away, as were two supermarkets. We were really surprised by how quiet and clean the streets were in the Marina neighborhood. The off-street parking was tight (we had a large SUV rental), but fine.

The only complaints that I can think of is the complexity of the digital TV, which we had to reset a coupe of times after the kids used the wrong remote to change channels, and the wifi connection which tended to drop out occasionally (there was a big jumble of network cables/routers etc on the floor of the office when we arrived - not sure if this was from the previous guest, or left there by the owner - also not sure if it contributed to the wifi issue). Clearly these are really minor issues which didn't affect our stay at all.

Our security deposit was returned to us the day after we left.

Would I recommend this property to others? Absolutely! We wish we had spent more time there.

Jill, we'll be in touch next time we travel to San Francisco.

A lovely week on Avila Street

We had the most enchanting week in your wonderful house - just one great day after another, culminating in a weekend of birthday festivities, with beautiful dinner at Greens and fabulous Sunday picnic over on the Marina Green. We ate far too many meals over on Chestnut - what temptations - and loved the long walks in every direction. Our son and his wife once lived on Jefferson, so we knew we loved the neighborhood. Of course the weather was extraordinary, with all of the locals out and about in shorts, and the eateries with their windows thrown open. Sunday looked so ominous that we almost cancelled the picnic, but after a few minutes of rain the wind died down and the temperature was perfect. We had sandwiches from Lucca and the Warming Hut, salads from local relatives, and cupcakes from SusieCake! Our kids and grandkids loved everything about the house - charm, space, convenience, books, toys, sweet garden, and so many extra touches. We all thank you!

Wonderful Stay

Having this beautiful, clean, well stocked home in a prime location made our San Francisco visit for my 60th birthday a happy one. My three grown children who drove from LA and my sister who flew from Kauai were thrilled with the accommodations. The location made it easy to see all the city has to offer. We saw the SF Ballet, Grace Cathedral Xmas Choir, Union Square, Embarcadero Lights, Chinatown,Chestnut Street(a short walk from the house). Ran along the bay to the Golden Gate Bridge and drove to Sausalito. Beautiful walk thru Fort Mason to Fisherman's Wharf. The owner Jill is very helpful and has a binder to read upon arrival with great information. We tried a few restaurant suggestions and was delighted with our meals. Jill knows her city. It's definitely on our list for a return visit. Loveliest street in the Marina area.

The house was just great and we did not want to leave. It is in the best quiet Marina neighborhood with an easy walk to all the great shops and food on Chestnut Street. Kitchen was nice and beds were comfortable. The master with its own bath is on the top floor, and the two queen bedrooms share a bathroom on the middle floor, and then there is a funky queen bedroom without a full bathroom on the ground floor. Perfect for a family or group of friends. Thanks Jill, We hope to be back soon!

Great Place and location

This was the perfect place to stay during our trip to San Francisco. The house is as beautiful as the pictures show and the location was ideal for getting everywhere we wanted to go and were able to walk almost everywhere. Everything was clean and there was every amenity you could wish for. The owner does a great job of staying in touch with you before and during your stay, making herself available for any questions or problems. She also leaves a book with all sorts of suggestions for restaurants, sightseeing, etc. which is especially nice for the first time visitor. I would definitely stay again and suggest to my friends!

We stayed five weeks in this wonderful home and give it the highest possible recommendation. The location is perfect for an extended stay in SF and the bay area. The house is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen and baths are nice and well-maintained. The garage is large. The backyard is lovely. The beds, bed linen, towels, kitchen supplies, appliances, and TV's are in good condition. The cleaning ladies do a great job. And Jill, the owner, is professional, friendly, fair, and responsive. We have experienced many vacation rentals over the years. This is the best.

Wonderful Home...Great Location!

This was the best San Francisco vacation we have experienced. The main reason was this great property...and the weather cooperated, for once. The home was perfect and we really did not want to leave at the end of our stay. The owners are great (very responsive and interested that everything was going well. Parking in the Marina area is always a challenge but no problem for us as the garage was exceptionally roomy (and we have a Ford Flex which is not exactly small). Would recommend this place without reservation...in fact, we won't stay anywhere else on future SFO trips.

The 333 Avila Street house is a comfortable, well functioning and cozy house, which allows you to feel at home while in San Francisco.
The house is attractively located, the waterfront and Marina in easy walking distance, groceries and easy-to-eat-out restaurants in easy walking distance, and fast driving access to all the major routes as well.
The house is very nice and comfortable, and allows you to feel at home and relax during your stay.

What a wonderful experience! The home was all it was described and more. Best location in SF, close to the action, great for families, food, walking and fun! The owner could not have been more accommodating. Looking forward to our next visit.

Wonderful family base in San Francisco

We had a terrific week in this very well appointed house in the Marina District. Our three adult children and their respective families all stayed and the set up could not have been better. The three levels meant that my husband and I could enjoy our lovely master bedroom suite, the family with the little baby were in te basement level and no one was disturbed with early rises or middle of the night crying. We enjoyed family meals in or went up to Chestnut Street which we all loved. The beds wereAyla very comfortable. It really was a home away from home and a large reason our family time in San Francisco was so special. The Marina is a wonderful area to have a base in SF and we would recommend this house. Thank you Jill
