Personal Attention to Guests: We offer three vintage vacation properties along a spacious block in the Nokomis Historic District, which we call 'Floridaloha.' Each of our cottages is recognized by Sarasota County as a historic property. The owner lives on-site, so you don't need to worry about dealing with absentee landlords or an impersonal rental agent should you ever need assistance. We go out of our way to make sure your vacation is enjoyable and that you find local attractions that suit your needs and desires. We are constantly adding new services and special packages for our guests who wish to take full advantage of our unique environment and want to enhance their Florida vacation experience.
I am a former marketing executive, freelance writer, published author, avid local historian and amateur musician who spent time growing up in Florida in the 1950s. My grandfather had rental property in Sarasota and I am carrying on the tradition. I am in love with the natural beauty of Florida, which is why I selected Nokomis as my home and have worked to restore several vintage buildings as vacation rentals. My goal is to show my guests the best that 'Old Florida' has to offer by giving them an immersive experience in the design and culture.
Eagle's Nest was originally the caretaker's house at Eagle Point, Bertha Palmer's hunting and fishing resort in Venice established in 1916. The resort was sold in the early 1990s to a real estate developer who used this home as his office. In 2004, this cottage was on the last buildable lot in Eagle Point, which was sold to someone who wanted to put a larger home on the site. I was offered the home and two small out buildings if I would relocate them, which I did. I moved them to a lot in Nokomis where I had two other historic homes, and in 2009, after Nokomis improved Colonia Lane and brought county water lines into the area, I restored the cottage and created a wonderful little 'Old Florida' oasis, adding it to Floridaloha, my enclave of historic vacation rental cottages.
This is a home in near original condition but with all modern infrastructure, new wiring, plumbing, appliances. So you get to enjoy the ambience of Old Florida with the convenience of modern comforts. The house has original heart pine floors, an antique rug in the living room. I have selected all furnishings and planned the decor to provide you the coziest and most charming experience possible.
