Historic District Charm

Located in the Nokomis Historic District, a small enclave of vintage homes and businesses near US 41 and Colonia Lane. Includes four antiques shops and four restaurants (Evergreen Cafe, Curry Creek Cafe, Captain Eddie’s Seafood, Bayside Grille), all within walking distance. There is a fresh fish market and an organic produce stand just two short blocks away. We are just a mile from historic downtown Venice, with all its 1920s charm and fun shopping and dining.

An Ecoturism Paradise

We are in an ideal spot for enjoying an unspoiled part of Florida. Just 1.5 miles to the clean white sands of Nokomis beach, so load the car up with our snorkels, beach chairs and cooler and make a day of it, walking the sands and sea oats of Casey Key, or stroll to the Venice Jetty to people-watch and check out the fishing. We have numerous other great beaches nearby, as well.

Cruise the 15-mile long Legacy Bike Trail, just 1/10 mile away and extending all the way to Venice Beach. Enjoy a picnic under the spreading oaks at Nokomis Community Center. Walk a block to Pocono Trail Preserve where you can bird watch and see Florida wildflowers, or take a guided nature tour. You're just four and half miles from Oscar Scherer State Park, great for bicycling, canoeing or kayaking, plus we're a short drive to the scenic Myakka River.

Personal Attention to Guests

We offer three vintage vacation properties along a spacious block in the Nokomis Historic District, which we call 'Floridaloha.' Each of our cottages is recognized by Sarasota County as a historic property. We go out of our way to make sure your vacation is enjoyable and that you find local attractions that suit your needs and desires. For more information, see www.floridaloha.com

I am a former marketing executive, freelance writer, published author, avid local historian and amateur musician who spent time growing up in Florida in the 1950s. My grandfather had rental property in Sarasota and I am carrying on the tradition. I am in love with the natural beauty of Florida, which is why I selected Nokomis as my home and have worked to restore several vintage buildings as vacation rentals. My goal is to show my guests the best that 'Old Florida' has to offer by giving them an immersive experience in the design and culture.

N. L. Eaton purchased this cottage in 2004

Eagle's Nest was originally the caretaker's house at Eagle Point, Bertha Palmer's hunting and fishing resort in Venice established in 1916. The resort was sold in the early 1990s to a real estate developer who used this home as his office. In 2004, this cottage was on the last buildable lot in Eagle Point, which was sold to someone who wanted to put a larger home on the site. I was offered the home and two small out buildings if I would relocate them, which I did. I moved them to a lot in Nokomis where I had two other historic homes, and in 2009, after Nokomis improved Colonia Lane and brought county water lines into the area, I restored the cottage and created a wonderful little 'Old Florida' oasis, adding it to Floridaloha, my enclave of historic vacation rental cottages.

This is a home in near original condition but with all modern infrastructure, new wiring, plumbing, appliances. So you get to enjoy the ambience of Old Florida with the convenience of modern comforts. The house has original heart pine floors, an antique rug in the living room. I have selected all furnishings and planned the decor to provide you the coziest and most charming experience possible.

My stay at Eagle's Nest Cottage was perfect.

I'd searched a very long time before coming across Nancy's listing, looking for a cozy, well maintained property that had some character, privacy, a good location and that was pet friendly. I was thrilled to read the listing decription and see the photos of the cottage and, best of all, wasn't disappointed in any way when I arrived and Nancy gave me the tour of my new "home away from home". The cottage is charming and has all the amenities I was looking for.

Nancy has done an amazing job decorating and accessorizing the cottage with all the conveniences a guest would want. Her warm welcome and willingness to help with any questions always made me feel like a friend coming to visit.

I'd highly recommend any of Nancy's properties. Before I left I made sure to book my next year's stay!

Eagle's Nest Cottage is an adorable and affordable retreat nestled within Florida's beautiful flora and fauna; yet, it is within close proximity to boutique shopping, a wide variety of restaurants, along with being close to Venice Beach, Casey Key and Siesta Key, some of Florida's most beautiful beaches. Eagle's Nest is furnished well and has everything one needs to have a little home away from home while on a Florida vacation. The cottage is perfect for a couple's retreat, girlfriend getaway, or a solo siesta. The owner was very easy to work with, stayed in contact via email, and gave specific details about cottage amenities and guest expectations during our stay. We hope to return on an annual basis.
Owner's Response: It was my pleasure to host you for your visit, Jenny! Hope to see you back next year.

Our stay at the Eagle's Nest cottage was a joy! We would recommend this vacation home in a heart beat. No stone left unturned by Nancy to make your stay enjoyable. Information and photos included in the cottage description are right on the mark! This was a wonderful "home away from home."
Owner's Response: I learned as much from Nan about the area as she did from me. She brought a whole folder of historic, nature-related and old Florida things to see and do and she and John did them ALL in one month! From Cross Creek to Snook Haven to Spanish Point and Myakka, they went everywhere and I loved hearing the stories of their travels. I look forward to their return visit, such sweet, funny and caring people.

Creativity, Comfort and Charm - these three words say it all. Owner Nancy E. has done a fantastic job of taking a 1917 historic structure and turning it into a 21st Century home without sacrificing its integrity. It is completely modern, with carefully chosen "Old Florida" furnishings, new appliances, updated electric and all those items that provide the ease and simplicity of living that we have come to expect. There are decks, front and back. The front has a welcoming entrance to the house from street or drive, and the sunny back deck is private with a table and chairs for outdoor living at its best. There is also a lovely "Secret Garden" seating area, which has cushioned furniture and privacy, large trees providing both shade and interest to the property along with the rest of the pleasant landscaping. Her website correctly states and shows what is available.

If you want, there is interaction with the other tenants who are in her two rental units on the block, but privacy if you so desire.

The star at the top of the tree is Nancy herself, who does more than most to make sure that you are comfortable, have what you need and provides information about the area.

Don't hesitate to choose one of her rentals; it will be booked if you aren't fast enough, which is what happened to me this year. So, I'm renting another one of her units. The only fact that I have to warn you about is that she baked scones for our enjoyment, not once, but twice. Once you have tasted them they are impossible to resist.
