My family stayed here for a week between Christmas and New Year's Day to let our kids see and play in 'real' snow and mountains (we live in Dallas). We have two kids - five and two. This cabin was exactly what we hoped it would be. The location is ideal for what we were looking for; wooded enough that it is hard to see other cabins to allow for privacy, yet plenty of other cabins in the area so that you do not feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. There is nice, large grocery store within 10-15 minutes and it took us about 45 minutes to get to and from Breckenridge. I would not stay here in winter without four wheel drive as the road leading to the cabin is sometimes steep, but we had no issues with access and the snow covered road winding through the trees was so nice that we recorded it on video one morning.
Pictures do not do the interior of the cabin justice. Very well decorated with quality furniture. I have stayed in other cabins (not in Colorado) that have been minimally decorated with cheap furniture and the feel of this cabin is completely different than those. It is as comfortable (aesthetically and physically) as my own residence. The top floor accommodated my wife and me in one room with our kids in the room just across the open hallway. The main floor and basement could have easily accommodated a second family (which we originally planned but their work schedule did not permit). There is a full bathroom on each level, which is very convenient. The kitchen and living areas are all open and together to make cooking, eating, and watching TV easy for the family to do together.
Highly recommended - I can't think of a reason not to stay here.

The Fairplay Chalet is a dream come true! When searching for a place to stay our hopes were that a nice little cabin would be a retreat for our family, but this is something we hope to make a tradition. Your cabin is truly a home away from home and we felt so very comfortable. It is so beautiful! To be able to see the Milky Way and the sage and pines is such breath of fresh air. We saw amazing wildlife, played games and re-connected as a family should. We are so very grateful.

Thank you so much for letting us rent your beautiful home. We had a blast here all week long!! I was truly amazed with all the details of this house. I have rented plenty of houses around the US and this one has to be the BEST! We went river rafting in Buena Vista, horseback riding in Keystone, fishing in Lake George, wolf watching in Divide and rode the gondola in Breckenridge. And we got to enjoy Burro Days in Fairplay. Again, Thank You. The kids are upset that we have to leave but we will be back in the future!

REMARKABLE! This is where you want to be!

I cannot say enough about this fabulous cabin!! We stayed in The Fairplay Chalet for our Christmas break and we were absolutely impressed, especially with the Christmas decor that was out for us to enjoy. We have stayed in other cabins in the area that we weren't nearly as pleasing.
Being a mother of two....I am SUPER concerned with cleaniness and this house was CLEAN!! The owners have thought of everything! Kitchen was fully stocked, blankets on every chair and couch, bathrooms have many needed items, beds and bedding were comfortable...and much more. Shannon was great to answer any questions and she responded quickly. It was obvious that she was concerned about making sure we had a pleasant visit....and we did! My husband and our children even made an igloo outside for fun!!
If we come back to Fairplay, there is no doubt that this is the cabin we will choose! Thank you so much for opening your home and allowing others to stay and enjoy! May God's blessings pour out on you and your family. :)

A wonderful home with splendid decorating. As a vacation rental home, the Fairplay Chalet has everything required for a home away from home visit. The sitting room upstairs allows a great view of the moon at night, while the kitchen has everything to cook a meal. And if you take Country Road 14 all the way to the end, you might see moose. We did just that !!!

Your home here is absolutely lovely! Shannon, since I left Colorado, I have returned often to fish, ski, or just rejuvenate. I have never returned to a place I've rented because they have NEVER lived up to the billing. Your FairPlay Chalet is a different story. You have exceeded expectations by miles. I am here to fish, read, relax and write a book. Your home is vey much like the one we sold last year. (minus the game room). The perfect get-a-way

My husband and I decided to treat our adult children and their partners to a vacation away from the Texas heat. I found this place online and decided to take a chance on the Fairplay Chalet, but I was definitely worried the pictures may not be reality. We found out the pictures didn't do justice to what we found... the home is perfect. The owners have decorated it to perfection; the location is convenient to lots of activities, yet isolated enough to feel peaceful. We went to Buena Vista for whitewater rafting and then to Platte Ranch for horseback riding. Our five day vacation in Fairplay will go down as our best yet. Well worth the price of rental for the chalet!!!

Girls Get-a-way to Fairplay

We chose this destination for an extended girls week-end get-a-way in early summer - we wanted something that was relaxing yet amenities within a short distance if needed. The cabin was perfect - the style and grace of the owners showing in every nook & cranny! They did not miss a beat of ambiance for the mountain venue!!! Very welcoming & warm, from the welcome note in the kitchen to the bathrobes in the bathrooms...
Breckenridge was a short drive away where we visited the spa, enjoyed a leisurely lunch and did a little shopping!
We also had dinner locally in Fairplay, Millonzi's (good food, moderate pricing, friendly people) and the bowling alley (Dorothy's famous tamales - very nice people - we even got our picture taken with Dorothy's husband - who made a very good margarita!!!) we attended church @ St Joseph's (where a lady stopped and invited us to come and pet the baby goats and have a glass of wine)!!!!

We are planning on coming back again, and I believe that each of us will bring family members @ another time - it's a special place and I am very pleased that we took the recommendation of my daughter (who lives in Denver) to try this destination!

DREAM COME TRUE

I found the cabin through craigslist so I was a little skeptical. I've never done anything like this before but I'm very happy that I decided to go through. The pictures of the Chalet are beautiful but I think that they still don't do the place justice. I would recommend The Fairplay Chalet to anyone. As a matter of fact, I already have. If I had but only one word to describe it: PERFECT.
