Not Exactly Lake Front

The house was nice, clean, and well-stocked. Stairs to the bottom bedroom were steep and one of our guest fell the first night (be careful!). Laundry room is on the lower level. Back deck needed cleaning (mildew), so we never sat out there. The pontoon boat was the best part of the trip, and I can't imagine the week without it for my guys. HOWEVER, this was a family 'lake vacation' and we wanted lake front (or at least easy lake access). We were not told that lake water levels were so low, nor that the steps to the lake were super steep. From the house...standing on the back deck....you literally could NOT see the water, nor the boat. Scary sight upon arrival! My older two sons made the first trek down to the lake and discovered that the boat was further down the canal. They are young & athletic men, but were still winded from the trek when they returned. I was able to make ONE trip down the steps, but when I was near the bottom of the yard...there was a steep drop to the next lower level. If I had been able to get to that lower level, there was still a trek through mud and trees to get to the boat. Having had knee surgery years ago, I knew that the first drop was not going to be possible. So, we decided to try accessing from the boat ramp that was in our information package. After finding the appointed boat ramp, it was obvious that I could not access the boat from that area due to low levels of water, and marsh/mud. The boat could not be pulled anywhere near the ramp. So, we had to scout out a new entry area, but it was day 2 before we found one. For the entire week, I was able to get on the boat only twice due to the difficult process. My husband and sons were able to enjoy it, but it caused our family to be separated rather than together. I envisioned a lot of family time on the lake, watching my sons fish from a pier, going out on the lake at night, etc. This vacation was nothing like that. I honestly hate to give a negative review, but if you are looking for a LAKE house, you may want to keep looking. This was our first time to Lake Lanier and our first time using VRBO. :(
Owner's Response: In the year since your visit, water levels at Lanier have varied wildly. It is an unfortunate reality. It is my hope that the drought conditions you experienced do not repeat themselves. At the current time, water levels are at full pool and the dock is in front of the house with water views. You are correct that the walk to the water is steep. With the dock in the correct position, however, it is far more manageable than what you experienced. I am truly sorry that your experience wasn't what you had hoped.
