My husband Stanley and I met at Art College in England in the late 60s, In 1985 we bought a 30 metre Dutch barge in Holland and cruised down to Burgundy, when we finished the conversion we decided to run art workshops these were great fun and after successfully doing this for ten years we sold the barge and bought ‘Maison de la reine’. By now Stan’s successful exhibitions were taking up all his time so we had to abandon the workshops and it was at this time we decided that maison de la reine would be a perfect vacation home.
Ligny le Chatel is a village in the heart of the wine making countryside. It is 9kms from the famous wine village of Chablis. Paris is 2 hours away by either car or train so it is easily feasible to spend a day up in Paris enjoying the wonderful sites it has to offer. Easily within 30 – 60 minutes you can be in a medieval town or sitting by a river in the heart of the burgundy countryside.
Ligny le Chatel has all amenities including one small and one large supermarket, two restaurants, boulangerie and even a hairdresser all within walking distance. If you cross the bridge over the mill race at the rear of the house you find our private park, which is ideal if you want some time to sit in the shade of the trees and read or just enjoy the sound of the millrace. Chablis, 9kms away has a Sunday morning market which is well worth a visit, you can enjoy your morning coffee and croissant then join the locals and buy your fresh fruit, vegetables, olives and local cheeses before retuning to the house to enjoy them.
