History meets luxury...and location...at the Keidel Inn and Gasthaus. This premium property is located on Main Street only steps from the main shopping district. Take a stroll to the Nimitz Museum just across the way or enjoy an evening walk to the best restaurants Fredericksburg has to offer. Enjoy morning coffee on the fabulous garden patio by the fish pond. The main building on the front of the property facing Main Street is the Keidel Inn. Just behind the Inn is the Keidel Gasthaus.

Of course the charm of this property dates back to 1846 when three lots were deeded to Dr. Wilhelm Keidel, the first medical doctor in Fredericksburg. Keidel Inn and Gasthaus is located on a large lot in Fredericksburg that has been in the Keidel family for well over 160+ years. The Gasthaus was built originally facing Main Street and on the very north part of the property. It was the first home of Dr. Victor and Clara Stieler Keidel after their marriage on June 13, 1909. Behind the house stood a screened in large kitchen separated from the wood frame home for safety reasons.

In 1928, the Gasthaus was moved to its present location in order to build the Spanish style home that now houses the Keidel Inn. Two historic oak trees stand near the southwest corner of the main house and mark the spot where the first surveyors of the new city of Fredericksburg buried their tools so when the settlers arrived the following year they would have them to start the construction of their new homes. They built a campfire over the spot so Indians and other travelers would not be able to tell that the soil had been disturbed. The Keidels were a prominent family of physicians in early Fredericksburg and served the community for over 150 years. The property is owned by a granddaughter of Victor and Clara and is being operated as a B&B by a great grandson.

The upstairs portion of the main house offers three bedrooms (two rooms have a king bed, the third has two twins beds). The charming bathroom upstairs offers a tub/shower combination. Downstairs offers two bedrooms (one king & one queen), two baths for extra privacy, a large living room, dining room and foyer with impressive stairway. You will also enjoy a comfortable sitting area and full kitchen.

The Gasthaus has one king bedroom upstairs with a half-bath. Downstairs has a queen air mattress, sitting area, full kitchen & full bathroom.

If you’re looking for space, luxury and location, Keidel Inn & Gasthaus is the place for you!

Ideal Reunion

DO NOT pay attention to any reviews dated before 2011. None of them are applicable today as there is new ownership and management which is first rate!
Eight high school friends from the class of '58 had a reunion there and it was perfect. The Inn was immaculate, very spacious, and beautifully decorated in vintage style. The beds had beautiful linens and pillows and were oh, so comfortable. Bath linens were huge and fluffy. The kitchen was spacious enough for several to be working in there at one time. Location is perfect-right in the center of town-and you could walk to almost everywhere. And yet, because of the very thick walls and heavy window coverings, the place is very quiet. There is a new added bonus of a hot tub, which was enjoyed by all! The new owner was very accessible and accomodating. A trip to Wildseed Farms and then on out to Becker Vineyards with its heather fields is not to be missed. The George Bush portion of Nimitz Museum is especially good, and a $7 ticket is good for 48 hours.
Of course, the shopping gets high ratings. Thanks for a great stay!

We had a great time
Enjoyed the patio on the east side, shaded from setting sun
Great location; Could walk to all stores on Main Street
Everything very clean and ready when we arrived

Water pressure in master bedroom very low; upstairs had strong water pressure

Front bedroom did not have private bath but wasn't really a problem; just a preference that is not fixable

Parking was great

We'll be back
Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments and glad you had a great time!

We'll be checking out the water pressure issue on the downstairs bath.

Thanks,
Jeff

Perfect place for large family gathering

A very cozy and charming place to stay in Fredericksburg. Our family of 14 stayed here to dedicate a memorial plaque at the National Museum of the Pacific War across the steet. Everyone had their own bedroom and there is ample space for everyone to enjoy themselves. We had a couple of meals out on the patio and the children had a great time playing ball on the lawn. Jeff stopped by on the last day and was most gracious. Not a better place in Fredericksburg for this many people.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments and your business! It's much appreciated.

Thank you for your family member's service during WWII and for your service to our country.

Come back and see us again.

Glad we chose this location. It was perfect for our needs---quiet, near shopping, adequate parking, large enough for everyone to have their own "space". We were all amazed how quiet it was considering it was on Main Street. We were in F'burg to visit some wineries and to visit the people in our group in the quiet of this B&B. We did take advantage of the meal coupons provided (Bejas Grill sandwiches and tacos were quite good). We would all recommend this location to anyone we know.

Keidel Inn Visit

Our recent stay at the Keidel Inn included 14 women for my sister's Bach weekend. We were looking for a nice, quiet weekend in Fredericksburg to include shopping & vineyards. This house was EXACTLY what we were looking for! A part from its charm & good looks (very cute), this house accommodated all 14 of us very comfortably. We were able to walk a very short distance to the Main Street shops & its proximity to the vineyards couldn't have been better. Everyone was able to sleep in a bed & all beds were noted to be very comfortable. With 14 women you worry about hot water during shower time & this was not an issue. All 14 of us truly loved the house & had a wonderful experience. Thank you so much for making our stay so pleasant and comfortable. We will definitely be back!

A group of us rented this property to stay while we were in town to tour the wineries. The location was perfect as it was at the end of town nearest the wineries. Jeff was there when we first arrived so we got a tour along with all the history of the house. The photos of the house and patio do not do it justice. This is a beautiful place. We had a great time and I honestly can't think of one complaint. There were so many wineries that we are definitely going back to visit the rest and this is where we will be staying.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments & review! We always love to hear from satisfied guests. We're glad you had a great time & look forward to future visits.

If you didn't get a chance to visit the Rockbox Theatre, you should put it on your list of things to do for the next trip.
