A wonderful vacation in Hawaii

We just finished a one month stay at the Kona Rain Forest Coffee Farm guest house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Robert and Dawn operate a working Organic Coffee Farm while at the same time act as friendly and obliging hosts to those who stay at the guest house on the farm. The beautiful guest house sits high on the farm property and has a great view of the ocean in the distance and the ever changing Kona sunsets. It is even more open and spacious than the pictures show. The covered Lanai allows you to sit in the morning sun with your cup of fabulous Rain Forest Kona coffee. Dawn showed us how to properly brew a French Press of their coffee and it tasted far better than any of our previous attempts at drip perking that we were used to. They supply beach mats and chairs for your trips to any of the many beaches that are on the Kona side of the Island. You can pack your own lunch and iced water and carry it all to the beach in the cooler supplied. Robert gave us a tour of the farm and explained the intricacies of the operation including the roasting process. The tour was fascinating and we were also able to see the pickers in operation as they selected the “cherries” from the trees surrounding the guest house. We also had friendly daily visitors to our lanai as Jackson and Launa, the resident Jack Russell Terriers came around to sit and have a rest and see if we had any doggie treats that day. Be sure to visit the volcano Kilauea, it’s well worth the trip to the Park where it’s located and the friendly Park Guides will show you where the interesting sites are located. On your drive to the volcano be sure to stop at Punaluu Bakery on highway 11, I’ll bet you will find it impossible to leave there without purchasing some of their tasty treats! Be sure also to visit Up Country Bakery in the Captain Cook area and try some of their great bagels or have a brunch or lunch from the extensive menu, it’s funky hippie feeling place with very friendly staff. Hawaii is a beautiful Island to visit and we would be happy to visit there again, especially if we could stay at the Kona Rain Forest Guest House and once more enjoy a relaxing visit.

Wonderfully peaceful setting. No lights when sleeping, provides an amazing way to unplug from the world. Very close to some great beaches. Far enough away from the main Kona district so that you aren't bothered by the businessness of Kona, but close enough to get to it if you wish.

The people who run the farm are AMAZING and were so accommodating. Plus the coffee is simply amazing. There was nothing better than getting up each morning and enjoying a fresh cup out of the deck and taking in the wonderful view.

WOW! We had a GREAT stay at your beautiful guesthouse in Kona! Our family enjoyed all the amenities of your guest house including the well equipped kitchen to make family meals, the lanai for the beautiful view, grilling on the lanai, the 2 bedrooms, the DVDs for the kids to watch, and being on an organic coffee farm. The kids loved hunting for chameleons on the coffee plants and playing with your dogs. Dawn and Robert really went above and beyond in making our stay an AWESOME vacation…they are gracious and kind trustworthy hosts! They also provided boogies boards, beach mats, a beach umbrella, beach towels, and coolers for a fun day at the beach. Robert gave us a fantastic tour of the organic coffee farm, and it is amazing process to produce organic coffee beans. My husband (an avid coffee drinker) loved the complimentary organic coffee – it was THE BEST! You can also do your laundry so you don’t have to overpack. We enjoyed Hookena beach, which was only 6 miles away - great beach to go snorkeling and boogie boarding with the kids. We enjoyed Volcanoes National Park, Black Sands Beach – saw sea turtles there (thanks, Dawn, for the recommendation), and the Place of Refuge (Pu’uhonua o Honaunau) – Hawaiian culture. Also, stop by Costco and Target to buy your groceries for the week right after you pick up your car at the Kona airport as prices are much cheaper than the Hawaiian grocery stores – a tip given by our Avis car rental guy. Before you return your car rental, stop by Costco to tank up as it is way cheaper to buy gas if you are a Costco member. Thanks, Dawn and Robert, for your fantastic guesthouse and your generosity and kindness! We had a WONDERFUL vacation at your guesthouse, and we highly recommend it! Mahalo!

2012 Bartlett Big Island Vacation

The property was a wonderful surprise on a mountain top overlooking their coffee fields and a view of the Pacific Ocean located about 30 minutes or so South of Kona and some pretty cool beaches & towns.

The house was nicely decorated and very calming, but our fave area was the covered lanai that allowed us to see the sunrise/sunsets every day as we ate our breakfast & dinners. We were traveling with a 1yr old, but the house was pretty much childproofed that our baby was able to enjoy crawling on the outside deck and living room floors :-).

Robert and Dawn were very welcoming, and many thanks to Robert for taking the time to talk to my husband about owning/running a coffee plantation, which was one of the reasons why we were visiting the Big Island. They have a wonderful Organic operation and we can see why they are so successful with their coffee plantation. (Thanks for the free coffee sample as well!!!). We definitely recommend this place to all our friends & family and hope to visit again soon.

Our recent stay at Kona Organic Rainforest Coffee Farm guest house was beyond my expectations. The house was modern, clean and comfortable, with all the amenities necessary, and an amazing view. The setting provided an opportunity to spend a quiet, peaceful and relaxing vacation, while beaches and shopping were within a short distance. Our hosts were gracious and willing to assist our every need. We look forward to another visit very soon!
