About Donna Boxman

First visiting The Great Smoky Mountains around 1956, as an eight year old I could have never envisioned actually living close by. Now over 40 years later, my husband and I are the owners of a wonderful second home in Maggie Valley and regular visitors to the park. The photo to the left highlights Waterrock Knob just a short ride from Mystic Mountain to this spectacular sunset on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Donna Boxman purchased this cabin in 2005
Why Donna Boxman chose Maggie Valley

Born in North Carolina, I have always had a love of this wonderful state. Once we visited Maggie the first time as a family we couldn't imagine a better place to have a second home. Maggie and the surrounding area have everything available to us that we enjoy doing, hiking, fishing, antiquing to name a few. My son and daughter, now adults, love to get away from it all at the cabin, one of the most peaceful places in our lives.

Wonderful Christmas at the cabin!

We had a wonderful Christmas at Mystic Mountain Cabin. The kitchen was well stocked, the fireplace cozy and the views of the mist rising from the mountains beautiful! The owner thoughtfully had plenty of brochures and information about surrounding sights and activities. There were also wonderful bird and local wildlife books and even binoculars. The beds were very comfortable. It would be fun to come back in the summer!

This was my third visit to Mystic Mountain. We needed a place that was convenient and easy to access while we shopped for our retirement home in Waynesville. With all the comforts of home plus an easy access location and wifi, it made it possible to find the perfect home for us. We'll be moving permanently to the area in the fall and plan to stay at Mark and Donna's one more time. Thank you for the use of your lovely home.

Comforts of Home

3 of 5
Submitted: August 27, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
The house was spectacular, all the comforts of home and then some, from board games to cooking spices, just bring food and drinks. It was very clean and spacious and the washer and dryer are a real plus. The front porch was the place to be for coffee in the morning and dinner at night.
However, I must say the road to the house and the driveway itself was far from biker friendly. The road had huge potholes and loose gravely everywhere creating a real hazard on a motorcycle, not to mention the hairpin driveway at a 30 degree angle, whew, get there before dark. Sorry to say but if you ride a motorcycle you want to know these things.
Owner's Response: Linda,

Thanks for your feedback. Temporary repairs were completed in October, 2012. Permanent expansion of the road along with repairs are scheduled for Spring, 2013. Sorry for the inconvenience to you on your motorcycle. Through the years, the motorcyclists who have stayed at Mystic have provided reviews such as this, " By the way, for you motorcyclists out there, we made the trip on our Goldwing and the route to the cabin, as well as the parking situation, were fine. We can't wait to go back. Thanks for helping to make our trip great." (You can find the full 5 star review if you page down to the review for May 1, 2007.) This review and other comments from our motorcyclist guests are why I always felt Mystic is motorcycle friendly.

Enjoyed the cabin

We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation! Enjoyed the cabin, especially the porch- we enjoyed watching the birds come to the feeders and even a little chipmunk cane to eat the seeds the birds dropped! Beautiful weather - sunny days and very cool nights - Joey's was great as always. The cabin was so well equipped. We ate in most of the time. You have a very homey place. - thanks for sharing!

Mystic Mountain provided a perfect weekend

Submitted: August 9, 2011 Stayed: August 2011
We had a group of six come up for the weekend to race in a triathlon and ride in the mountains. Mystic Mntn was a fabulous oasis for our group. Well kept property that was comfortable, had great amenities, and in a good location. On a quite street, with beautiful views, and a most comfortable porch! Fabulous owners who clearly cared that we would enjoy our stay.

Perfect fit for our family!

My husband and I have a married daughter, a college-aged son, and a teenager. This cabin gave everyone the space they needed. I was also very impressed that the cabin had left several "staples". There were spices in the cabinet and extras that we might have forgotten to pack. I appreciated that.

We had one of the best vacations we have ever had. There is a stream that runs in the front of the cabin and you can sit on the porch 24/7 and listen to it. It was so relaxing. We came from Florida where the weather was in the high 90"s and we hardly ever had to turn the A/C on in the cabin. It was very nice and we slept with the windows open and the fan on. You certainly cannot do that in Florida. It was very refreshing. Also, the cabin was so clean and the layout was perfect. We will definitely be back and I just can't say enough good things about it. We loved it and would recommend it to everyone. What a great vacation we had. Also, it was very close to great site seeing. We went to Cherokee to the Casino twice and yes won money. We went to HOT SPRINGS and go in the 108 degree hot springs. We went to the Fontana River/Dam and also went to the White Water Rafing towns. All of these are a 1-day trip. The resturants are great. We loved Clyde's in Waynesville, NC (7 miles away). The Mexican Resturant in Maggie Valley was also very good. Not enough time to tell all the great things about the cabin and our week vacation.

Thank you.
