Wonderful Property

Deb and AL Chicago Suburbs
Review Submitted: May 10, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
This is a long over due review and so very deserving of this property and of the owners Jim and Doris.
We were making a last minute get away out of Chicago, and like to bring our (not so little) dogs with us. We have used home away before for other properties, but loved their pictures and the ideas of walks and the beach and night fires, even when we booked in the late part of October. It was everything as described in the property listing.
Their paper work was prompted and contacting them was easy. The directions to the property were easy and great, even at night. And when we woke the next morning what a beautiful sight we saw. The beautiful November clouds on the little black lake were breath taking. The dog run was perfect. Their endless back yard that blended right into Hoffmaster State Park trails that took you right to Lake Michigan was awesome.
The house was a little big for just the two of us and our dogs, but none the less... perfect. It had everything needed to make a great stay. Clean and well maintained, all the kitchenware and appliances were in great working order. Attached garage was convenient. Washer and Dryer were easily accessible and better than the ones I have at home.
We didn't venture away from the property to eat at any local restaurants, we were so wonderfully content staying at the house.
Jim and Doris stopped by to make sure everything was going well and to see if we needed anything. They are very delightful. We could have talked all day.
We would definitely recommend this property and look forward in returning in the fall again. Although, we don't want to recommend it too much, they might get too booked up.!!! Thanks Again Jim and Doris for making us and our four legged family feeling welcome. We still have your Christmas card still hanging on our fridge.

Great find

Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
The cottage is well outfitted, down to the nightlights in the bedrooms (a great addition to someone with kids who still use them!). Owners are courteous and helpful, good communications.

Wish we could have stayed longer, made better use of the bikes (many), kayaks (3), canoe, rowboat, firepit (with firewood there!), and many toys the kids used near the house. Kids could have lived on the Lake Michigan beach. Local beach (state park) is wide, lots of space to find your own spot. Weekdays in Muskegon (guarded beach) also easy to find your own spot near the water in late July.

Ended up driving to the lake (walk through woods too difficult with small children and lots o' stuff) but a 15 min drive got you to a lifeguarded beach and the kids had a great time.

Only rental I have stayed at where you could virtually just bring clothes, food, and beach towels, and have everything else you need already there. If you're looking at staying in the area, this is a sure-bet.
Owner's Response: Thank you for the informative review. We hope it will help others get a feel for what we have to offer.

We expected a "lake front" house and found a mud hole! There was not a place to sit by the water and enjoy the lake breeze. You had to go thru weeds...bugs etc to go out on the skimpy dock to the muddy waters. Impossible to swim or sit on the beach although you could haul your things 2 miles to sit comfortably on Lake Michigan. The pictures make this look like a great place but it is nothing special that sits right on the road with the mud pond across from it. For the money they charge this is NOT worth it! We were so distraught upon arrival we refused to stay and the owners had no conscience about keeping our deposit. we have rented for 25 years and have never run into such a disappointment.
Owner's Response: We welcome any and all questions from our renters and stand on our record. This is the first complaint we've had and think it could have easily been avoided if the renter had bothered to ask if our lake was power boat friendly before arrival.

The owners were wonderful. The house was excellant, location great, the kids loved running in the woods and the walk to lake Michigan and climbing the dunes, they just loved it. The house had everything you could need. We'll stay there again soon. During the summer this time to enjoy everything there is to offer.
Owner's Response: We try very hard to keep our home clean, well maintained and supplied with everything that we would want on vacation. The only thing that we expect our guests to bring with them is their food, drink, clothes, personal care items and a vacation frame of mind.

With Hoffmaster State Park in the back yard and Little Black Lake in front of the house this is a nature lover's playground. There are dunes to climb, fish to catch, birds to watch bikes to ride and kayaks to paddle. But, if the weather is bad there is still plenty to do...there are 3 tvs, a vcr dvd, player, ping pong table, air hockey table, several board games and playing cards.

What a great find!

Review Submitted: September 8, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We stayed near the end of the summer and can't say enough about this delightful location. The home was clean, roomy, great views, and so perfect to escape for a week WITH OUR DOGS! With Hoffmaster Park out the back door, we all had a ball. We've rented for years in South Haven, but that area has become less pet-friendly and we are so pleased to have discovered Grand Haven and this property.
The owners are terrific - gave us lots of places to go, though with the beach, the kayaks, the woods - there really wasn't much need to drive anywhere. We've already booked for next year.

Great Family Rental

tlv Perry, Mi
Review Submitted: September 2, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We had a wonderful vacation, 4 generations under one roof and a dog. The house was very clean and stocked with everything needed to make it a home away from home. Great for families with kids of all ages. Highly recommend to anyone. Many attractions are close by making an easy commute to wherever you want to go.
Owner's Response: Family are always welcome in our home and we strive to meet the needs of all our guests. We've lived in the Grand Haven/ Muskegon areas all our lives and love helping our guests enjoy West Michigan as much as we do. If you have a special need let us know, we will try to accomodate it.

Wonderful Relaxing Birthday

AKS Swartz Creek, MI
Review Submitted: February 21, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2007
What an absolutely serene and beautiful place! We highly recommend this 'home away from home' to everyone. It was our first online rental and well, it spoiled us!

The owners are wonderful. They went through and baby proofed the house for us! We were so relaxed and just hung around the house and walked to the lake. Our dog LOVED the walk and the yard. The birds drove him crazy but were so enjoyable for us!

Clean, well maintained, great owners and wonderful atmosphere!

Thanks again! (We actually stayed in 2005 but it won't let me pick it and I am REALLY late reviewing!)
Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review. It always makes us happy, when our guest are happy. We love sharing our home and strive to make vacations fun. Our goal is to treat our guest the way we would want to be treated. Also, West Michigan has so much to offer and we love sharing our little slice of it with others.

We're not certain if you are having problems booking the house through the website or if it is booked for the dates that you're interested in. But if you're having problems with the website please contact us by phone and we'll gladly help you.

A Real Home Away From Home

LL SE Michigan
Review Submitted: December 19, 2007 Date of Stay: August 2007
This vacation rental had all the amenities of home and then some. First of all, it was absolutely immaculate, even the windows! There was lots of stuff to do including biking, hiking and kayaking. The bird-watching was amazing and they were constantly around to enjoy. Within easy travel distance were lots of things to see and do along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. We were very pleased with our experience.
Owner's Response: We'd like to say "Thank You for taking the time to review our property." We appreciate the feedback and are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. You are welcome back anytime! We strive to make vacations...vacations. Guest satisfation is very important to us.

Great Family Home for Vacation

artlover St. Louis MO
Review Submitted: July 1, 2007 Date of Stay: June 2007
Our family had a wonderful time at this location. It is very clean and the owners take care of all of the little details for you! We loved this area - so many things to do. We rented a ski boat out of Silver Springs and took it out on Lake Michigan - the dunes are gorgeous and the beaches and water are cleaner than any I have seen in the States.... they even have a "doggy" beach in Muskegon which we really enjoyed. Great water/adventure park 30 minutes away. We rented a fishing charter out of Grand Haven and it was perfect - the guides really went out of their way to make sure we all had a good time and caught lots of fish. We also rented dune buggies one day and everyone loved driving those over the dunes. The house is also very animal friendly. Our 3 teenage and early twenty kids wanted to make this our "every year" vacation place and I agree - it was great!
