Website, SmarterTravel, in an article titled, “Hidden Florida: The 10 Best-Kept Secrets,” dated February 6, 2010, described Boca Grande as one of the 10 Best Kept Secrets of Florida: “Relax, relax, relax—that's the vibe in Boca Grande, a sleepy historic town on Gasparilla Island, about an hour-and-a-half west of Ft. Myers. No spring training crowds or bustling atmosphere here; there's not a high rise or traffic light in sight. Instead you'll find seven miles of beaches, a state park, bicycle trail, and an area teeming with wildlife. Dolphins, manatees, osprey, pelicans, and more can be found at the beaches, as well as plenty of shelling and fishing spots. Nicknamed the "Tarpon Capital of the World," Boca Grande also lures tourists with fishing charters and sailing possibilities. There are also several restaurants and galleries for those willing to wander away from the sand and surf.”

Stephen and Wendy Koldin. We are from Syracuse, New York, and purchased this unit for our future retirement home. We enjoy going to the beach, taking nice walks, boating, fishing and playing golf. We have 3 children who are still in school so we are going to rent this property for around 10 years and then mostly use it ourselves.
We wanted to live in an area that is near a beautiful beach, has great local restaurants, plenty of activities and is "off the beaten path" where there is not congested tourist traffic. We wanted our condo complex to have a resort-like atmosphere so that we could always feel like we are on a vacation. The Hammocks at Cape Haze, Englewood, Florida meets all of our desires for a vacation home.
We enjoy having an end unit because it gives more light from the side windows. We also enjoy having the lanai overlook a stream and a center view of the pool/clubhouse. It gives the unit a resort-like feeling. We also love the zero-entry pool, clubhouse and tennis courts. Finally, the beaches are just a 10 minute drive and they are beautiful, uncrowded sand beaches where you can take nice long walks.
