Hawi Bungalow Rental Photos and Description
Bungalow, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2 - 6)

Aloha and E Komo Mai, Welcome, to Hawi Hale (pronounced Ha-vee Ha-Lay), a charming and quaint vacation rental located near the historic towns of Hawi and Kapa`au in the beautiful region of North Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii. Come experience the spirit of “Old Hawaii” where you feel as though you’ve gone back in time and relax in a well-appointed vintage 1930’s bungalow nestled amidst swaying palms and a variety of lush tropical fruit trees and flowers. Recently restored and updated, this beautiful plantation style bungalow sits on three acres. With ocean and mountain views, this is the ultimate in Hawaiian hideaways where all of your senses are attended. Considered Kohala’s “golden zone,” the bungalow is located at the perfect up country elevation on the slopes of Kohala Mountain, 500 feet above sea level, and boasts ideal temperatures where soothing trade winds blow puffy white clouds across wide-open blue skies. Experience nature’s music composed of bird songs and the rustling of old growth fruit trees that surrounds you. Enjoy the fragrance of flowers and savor seasonal fresh tropical fruit right off the trees. Be wowed by the ever-changing colors in the sky as the day draws to an end and be ready to be amazed as you settle into an evening of spectacular stargazing. Secluded and set away from the crowds of the busy resorts, this little gem of a setting is the perfect “jumping off point” for exploring the best that the Big Island has to offer!

The three bedroom two bath bungalow is light and airy with high ceilings and offers all the comforts of home, plus upgraded amenities that include WiFi (Wireless Internet), cable television, Apple TV, DVD/CD/MP3 player, iPod docking station and sound system, beach chairs, beach towels, cooler, umbrella, tropical outdoor shower and body wash for the bath. The bungalow’s many windows allow for views of the surrounding tropical paradise and a refreshing cross breeze. Comfortable beds, full bath and plush linens are provided. Prepare delicious meals in the fully equipped kitchen or grill outdoors on the gas barbeque. Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner or a glass of wine or cocktail on the spacious wrap around lanai complete with lounge chairs and dining tables. A washer and dryer are provided for your convenience. Sample a “taste of Hawaii” with fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs and macadamia nuts from Kohala’s farmers’ market. Here at Hawi Hale, we invite you to participate in our green practices by recycling in bins that are provided.

Plenty of activities are close by to keep your days filled. The towns of Hawi and Kapa`au are a short walk/drive from the bungalow. These towns have all the quaint charm of old Hawaiian villages but are filled with the amenities of today. Shopping, restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, boutiques and art galleries just to name a few. Enjoy live entertainment by some of Hawaii’s best local musicians.

The famous black sand beach of spectacular Pololu Valley is just 15 minutes away. Enjoy the breath taking views from the scenic overlook or experience a nice hike into the valley below. Be sure to take your time and catch the sights on your drive to the “end of the road.” Polulu never fails to impress!

Other water activities such as swimming, snorkeling, and diving are a short drive away to pristine, undeveloped coastline teaming with colorful fish and healthy coral reefs. A twenty minute drive south will deliver you to Kohala’s “gold coast,” the best of the Big Island’s beaches for surfing, body surfing, lounging and sunning! At the end of the day, return home to the bungalow to enjoy the cool evening air and dinner on the lanai.

You may just decide to stay close to home and enjoy the beauty and splendor of the property. Treat yourself to a massage on the lanai, read a good book, watch a movie, listen to music, enjoy a catered dinner from a personal chef, go for a walk or hike on neighboring trails or just relax…the possibilities are endless!

Take a deep breath of the fresh clean air of North Kohala and immerse yourself in the serenity and privacy of Hawi Hale and experience true island living at its best! Aloha.

Our second visit this year, and we still marvel at the perfection that is Hale Hawi.

We got some excellent exercise a few times by parking the car at the Upolu airfield, then walking up to the bungalow. After a bio break and a brief rest, we walked back to the car. Each direction was roughly 90min, and super exercise combined with the views.

Another unexpected surprise was a visit from the contractor who was key to the reconstruction of this beautiful home a few years ago. It was a real treat to hear about the project, and he had nothing but the highest compliments for the owners.

This home is the ultimate in comfort and in proximity to our favorite area of the Big Island. Sushi Rock, Gill's, the Chuckwagon, Takata's, Da Fish House, Hawi Farmers Market, the Fish Truck, Blue Dragon, and Cafe Pesto are all favorites of ours.

Kudos to the owners for selecting the very best property manager we have ever encountered.

Can't wait to return!

This was our second stay at Hawi Hale and we can't wait to come back again. We really feel like this is a second home and the house and property are comfortably appointed and cleanly maintained by both owner and property manager to accommodate and insure gracious living. As soon as we arrived back to Hawi Hale, we breathed a deep sigh of relief, took off our shoes, and settled into enjoying the Aloha lifestyle.

The property has everything you need to enjoy your stay on Hawaii, be it shopping at the Hawi Farmer's Market and cooking at home, or supplies for enjoying a day at the beach. The house is situated in a pastoral setting within walking distance of "downtown" Hawi and is close enough for daily trips to the beach while providing a relaxing setting for enjoying sundowners or resting a bit before heading out for dinner to one of the area's many fine restaurants.

The property manager has been very helpful in arranging our stays and checking in with us to make sure we always had whatever we needed. We cannot recommend Hawi Hale highly enough! Truly a great place to stay.

Paradise found - at Hawi Hale

As accurate as the photos are, they still do not do justice to the country elegance of this beautiful bungalow. I think the rooms and the fabulous wraparound lanai are larger than they appear in the photos.

Have you ever stayed in a B&B, for example, that was so nice that you were afraid to really settle in? Here, you feel instantly welcome to relax and feel completely at home. I could live on the lanai!

All aspects of the home are in excellent condition. It's the perfect combination of privacy, on the fenced 3 acre lot, and of proximity to town and to the highway for traveling around the island. Any information you need to take full advantage of the house and of the island's entertainment is provided, and the property manager's attention insures that the entire experience is complete enjoyment.

We plan to return as soon as possible. Nothing can compare. There is no reason to try any other vacation rental home in the area.

We have enjoyed spending time in Hawi and the surrounding area for years. Some of this year's most enjoyable activities were:
Blue Dragon for dinner and music.
Elements - great selection of jewelry, textiles, and lava glass.
Lyman Museum in Hilo.
Gill's for tacos, quesadillas, and smoothies.
Hawi Farmers Market - such friendly vendors and local produce, food and crafts.
Da Fish House lunch truck - THE local favorite.

Mahalo for the ultimate in comfort and quality to Hawi Hale.

Visit to Hawi Hale on the Big Island

We fell in love with Hawi Hale the moment we arrived. The listing of the property was completely accurate--a charming and comfortable bungalow in a wonderful setting on a beatiful island! The listing photos were just as we found the house--beautifully restored with all the comforts of home in a clean and well-maintained manner. The property manager was extremely helpful and spent time on the phone with us reinforcing all of the incredible useful information forwarded before our visit. There were also many useful and informative books located in the house for our reference. We hope to return ourselves and would definitely recommend the house to friends and relatives. Hawi Hale was a great base for our travels all around the Big Island. Nearby, in particular, Kohala Zipline in Kapaau provided a great experience with a great staff! Gill's makes a great hot dog and the coffee shop in downtown Kapaau sells some delicious ice cream. Mother's is the place to go if you are looking for a special cigar and the Pololu Valley Overlook should not be missed. Cafe Pesto and the Seafood Bar in Kawaihae were very enjoyable and a visit to the Blue Dragon is a must! We had a fantastic trip--Mahalo Hawi Hale.

We have been in this marvelous house for a month and are sad to leave. The house is so comfortable and beautifully appointed and it has been the perfect base for our explorations such as Pololu Valley, Saturday farmer's market at Waimea, Mau Mai, Mauna Kea and 69 beaches, sunset at Mauna Kea and on... The weather has been great and we enjoyed watching the clouds and sunrises at this house. We cannot wait to return. Thank you so much. Mahalo!

We loved staying here at Hawi Hale. Everything is so fresh and new and it all works! We went to town each morning for coffee to mix with the locals. We climbed down into Pololu Valley and also down to Kiholo Bay. We had lovely weather and swam at three beaches along the Gold Coast. We dined everywhere...Waimea, Hawi, South Kohala and Kailua-Kona. We had a ball. Mahalo!

We loved staying in this beautiful house. It was a great pleasure to return here after a long day of restoring the Kamehameha Statue, up on scaffolding with strong winds, rain and intense sunshine. What a pleasure and what a Kohala experience. Mahalo!

Incredible Home, Remarkable Design, Serene

Mahalo! What an incredible home! The serene location is the premier feature, but the design and craftsmanship that went into restoring the bungalow is remarkable. I loved the personal selections...my favorite being the painting over our comfy bed. Next time I'll download more '30's and '40's tunes on our iPod. My husband and I shall always cherish the memory of our Hawi Home.
