Perfect Retreat

I loved my stay in the Carriage House at Fairhill Farm. The process of renting, checking in/out was easy and Alton was extremely prompt in responding. Everything was very clean, the grounds were well cared for and the site was beautiful. Every detail, down to flashlights in the nightstand and maps of the grounds, were well thought out and made the stay even more enjoyable. From the friendly felines to the sweet Corgi, the goose on the pond and the beautiful miniature horses frolicking in the fields, the animals all added to the fun. The purpose of my visit was a personal retreat and this place was perfect - relaxing, quiet, nice trails (even with my bum knee), and I enjoyed sitting and watching fish jump in the pond, and sitting up the "hill" some to see some great views. I would highly recommend it.

Amazing Romantic Getaway

My husband and I recently were able to get away for a weekend sans children and The Carriage House at Fairhill Farms made our weekend truly amazing. The pictures don't do this place justice! You fall asleep to the sounds of crickets, open the beautiful roman shades to look over the mountains from bed in the morning. There is a grill, a full kitchen and cozy sitting area. Alton, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. He clearly loves providing this sanctuary to people.
In addition to the great accommodations, we enjoyed hiking on his private property, watching the sunset while laying on a hammock by his personal lake or driving the winding, quiet roads of the area. We will absolutely be visiting again... in fact we wish we could go next weekend too! Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Vanessa. The Carriage House Studio on our Fairhill Farm does provide a peaceful, romantic getaway. Our two bedroom Carrie's Cottage also on our Fairhill Farm is perfect for a small family or two couples. The two Fairhill Cottages have exclusive access to the beautiful manor house poo. Our three bedroom High Fields Farm on its own 130 acre farm adjacent to Fairhill is great for family or gathering of friends. It has a private pool. All cottages have fireplaces for cozy fall or winter visits. Our two farms comprise almost 300 acres with ponds and streams to explore and miniature horses to enjoy. There are over five miles of private trails. We are less than a 15 minute drive from the Swift Run Gap entrance to the Shenandoah Nation Park, Skyline and Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Appalachian Trail. We are convenient to historic sites such as Monticello, Montpelier, Ash Lawn and University of Virginia. There are a number of excellent wineries nearby. We are only 90 minutes southwest of Washington, DC and 30 minutes north of Charlottesville, Virginia. All three of our cottages are on HomeAway. Getaway Perfection in VA!

We wanted to head west away from the chaos and noise that is Washington, DC. It was a spontaneous trip (called on a Thursday!) and from the moment I called the phone number attached to this property online, I felt like I was being granted a true getaway. The proprietor was easy-going and nice. Upon arrival, even the ride up the driveway was magical. Gorgeous property -- with views that matched and even exceeded our expectations from the online pix -- and three lovable, barking, yipping dogs that greeted us upon arrival. The owner was very welcoming and attentive and provided lots of extra details for our questions about restaurants and bike trails.
I have high standards for B&Bs. One of them is that you feel like you can beat to your own drum and relax on your own time. I definitely felt like we could come and go as we pleased. Absolutely a perfect place. We spent some time walking the farm grounds, petting the miniature ponies, lounging in the Adirondacks and rode bikes in the nearby area. Only a few miles from Barboursville, we enjoyed the vinyards there on Sat and drove into Charlottesville for a nice dinner in the evening. Just so relaxing and were able to wake up with a stunning and exquisite views of the farm property.
A true romantic getaway and great value. We will definitely be making a return visit to Fairhill Farm and telling everyone about it in the interim!

A perfect retreat from the city

We spent our anniversary weekend over Labor Day at Fairhill farm. We can't wait to go back! The lodging in the cottage studio was beautifully decorated and the kitchen was adequately equipped for our cooking needs. The owner's daughter was very quick and helpful with helping us get a new propane tank on the grill so that we could cook out, which we appreciated. The studio's spacious scenic deck that overlooks the hills on one side and the grazing fields on the other. At night, the starry skies took our breath away. We took pleasure in petting the friendly ponies, cats, and dogs on the property. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful pool next to the owner's house and the hiking up on the hill past the cowfields. We also loved driving around that part of Virginia. It is so beautiful and the perfect escape from the city, where we live. Barboursville winery is close by - great place to visit.
