It was amazingly wonderful. There is no doubt, the presence of a collective consensus that Pietro and Marina are hospitable hosts that go to great lengths to make their guests feel at home and optimize their experience in Rome. I can add nothing; if anything, these reviews are an inadvertent competition of experiences! We too, enjoyed the cooking class and although we did not officially take a tour, Pietro provided us with transportation, sites and as much information as one would expect from a tour. It is difficult not to recognize his wealth of knowledge and absolute love for his city and country.
My family and I were a group of 8, ages ranging from 15-72. On our end, I confess we were a tired lot, finishing a 2 week, 4 city vacation in Italy. Siblings were getting snarly with one another; thoughts of returning to work were creeping in, so we were probably not at our best for our hosts.
There is much to see in the neighborhood and some of us wanted to spend our last couple of days pounding the pavement taking in as much as they could and then there were others (me) who were quite content to sit on the terrace and take in the view of the Colosseum and think, “it doesn’t get much better than this…”.
So the apartment provides the best of both worlds.
Oh, and yes… my teenage daughter left behind a ring she purchased in Rome. It has little monetary value but much sentimental value as a token from a much enjoyed trip. After taking the time to assess the cost of sending it to Chicago (and it was surprisingly high), Pietro arranged for his daughter, visiting him this month, to return to the states and mail it to me from there. If that’s not an example of going above and beyond…I don’t know what is.
It’s unlikely that I will need an apartment of that size again, but if I ever again find myself in Rome, I would most definitely look up Pietro and Marina and arrange something…
