We just returned from our 3rd summer renting this house. We are a family of four: Mom, Dad, and two daughters, ages 15 and 11. The house is beautiful, immaculate, comfortable, and well maintained. The views are breathtaking with the Berkshires on one side and Mt. Overlook on the other. The front porch looks out onto the wildflower meadow, home to hummingbirds, orioles, butterflies, bees, frogs, and more. The description and photos are accurate, only the house and property are more beautiful in person. The owner, Diane, is totally available by phone, should the need arise, and is attentive and timely in responding to whatever might come up.
In terms of things to do, there are many galleries in Woodstock and the surrounding area. The Elena Zang Gallery past Bearsville, in Shady, is well worth the 5 minute drive from town, and shows the works of prominent artists. Hiking Mt. Overlook is amazing. It is not an easy hike though, bring water, and snacks. The Buddhist Temple on Mt. Overlook is a work of art. The monks are friendly and kind. There is a bar/restaurant in Saugerties called the Pig, look for orange pig sign on Partition Street. Before 9pm it is a place where people go to eat, after 9 it's a bar scene. The food is excellent. The salads are delicious and there are many vegetarian choices. The new restaurant in town (Woodstock) called Cucina is very good but overpriced. It is very easy to cook at the house too. The kitchen is very functional, and we have had great meals at home there as well. There is also a gas grill for barbeque. The house has a washer and a drier, both of which are in perfect working order. So, we always leave as we came, with clean clothes in our bags. We all can't wait to go back to Diane's house, and I highly recommend this property!!!
