Photos and Description of the Sturgeon Lake vacation cabin rental
Cabin, 4 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

Juliane James Place is 40 acres of wonderful carved out of the Minnesota countryside between the Cities and Duluth. We are one hour south of Duluth and one hour and 45 minutes north of the Cities. We are close to hunting, snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing (on property if you bring snowshoes/skis), and lake activities. There are two casinos nearby, flea markets, antiques, and the following lakes: Sturgeon Lake, 20 mins; Moose Lake, 35 mins; and Lake Mille Lacs, 45 mins. Cloquet and Duluth are a quick drive up I-35N if you want to come stay at our place for peace and quiet and head up north for the day.

The property consists of a main house, a cabin, and large pond. During the warmer months, April-October, we rent both the cabin and the main house out. During winter, November-March, we rent only the main house. If you are interested in renting both houses in winter you are free to but please be aware that there is an outdoor bathroom on the cabin. The main house has two bedrooms and three beds, a king, a queen, and a full. There are aerobeds for use in the loft area, on the floors in the bedrooms, and in the main living area. There is plenty of space for sprawling out all over the house but if you are looking for privacy there are two main bedrooms in the main house. The cabin has sleeping for an additional 8 persons in three full beds and a daybed with a trundle.

Our place intends to be a refreshing and safe place for travelers of all sorts making their way through rural Minnesota. If you are planning a trip to Minneapolis/St. Paul, check out Juliane James to get a well-rounded experience of just how fantastic Minnesota is.

We also are a wedding venue and as such maintain beautiful gardens and picturesque grounds. We are a wedding venue and vacation rental where all couples are welcome celebrate/stay with us. We like to think of ourselves as offering a wedding or vacation experience based on the notion of Inclusive Exclusivity.

When you book JJP in winter (Nov.-March), you are renting the main house: a two bedroom house with a fireplace, large deck and porch, a fully-equipped kitchen, a loft space with a writing desk with a view overlooking the property, a master bedroom (king bed), a bedroom (queen bed and optional full-size cot) and two bathrooms. In the warmer months (April-Oct.) you also get the cabin that sleeps 8 (3 full, 2 twin) with electric heat and two wood burning stoves and no running water (we do have a system for water for cooking in the cabin's kitchen and a drinking water cooler). The cabin bathroom is a cute outhouse with electricity and a space heater. Any time you rent the property you also get all 40 acres complete with a huge pond and a half-mile trail around it.

There is plenty of parking room for an RV in the driveway (no hook-up) and for parking your boat if you are planning day trips to any of the many lakes near to us.

We have a washer and dryer on the premises. All cleaning products and toiletries are eco-friendly and we provide you with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash to use while you are here. We generally also have cooking staples you are free to use like oils and spices and butter.

We L-O-V-E dogs but have two of them so we know how messy they are. There is a refundable dog deposit (in addition to regular security deposit), a limit of four dogs, and a few dog rules to protect the place and (ultimately more importantly) the dogs.

About The Owner

Alyson Newquist and Jesse Miller bought this property to get married on and figured it was too beautiful to keep to themselves, so they decided to rent it out to others looking for a place to host a wedding or get away on vacation.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2010
Why The Owner chose Sturgeon Lake

We wanted a property that was beautiful enough to have our wedding on. When we drove down the lane and saw the large pond, the two houses, and the beautiful trees and gardens we knew this place was it. We wanted a place that was less than two hours drive from the Cities so we could get up there whenever we wanted and so that others who rented it could get out of the Cities fast too. We liked that it was only an hour from Duluth so that we could spend the day exploring further up north if we liked.

What makes this cabin unique

People who stay at this place say the only thing that is hard about staying there is going back to real life afterward. It's so peaceful. You can hike, boat, lay in a hammock and read, do yoga overlooking the pond, cook huge meals, hunt, and snowmobile...it's a perfect getaway. We welcome travelers who may not always feel welcome renting a vacation rental in rural areas (people of color, LGBT persons). You can stay here for a week and not see anyone but the people you came with. We'll even stock the fridge with groceries of your choosing for an extra fee.

Best Family Vacation Ever - Overexceeded Expectations!

Having lived in an urban setting our entire lives, our family has always vacationed in other cities. Our stay at Juliane James Place has become (hands down) our best vacation ever! The pictures that the owners posted on VRBO and the details provided through the property's website (i.e. owner's story, pictures) drew us into this surprising vacation in the countryside. As we drove through the forest and caught our first glimpses of the main house and pond, I felt an instant calm come over me. Juliane James Place is indeed a magical place. The pictures do not do it justice! The main house was stylishly furnished that I still felt the comforts of a boutique hotel, without the hustle and bustle of traffic jams and crowds. As we explored the grounds every morning, we just felt so lucky that the owners cared to share their place with us. Creative touches throughout the property impressed us thoroughly! We were incredibly saddened to leave the property on our last morning in Finlayson. My 10 year old daughter has stated that she misses the couches in the main house (you'll fall in love with them too!). Juliane James Place is the ideal vacation venue for outdoor enthusiasts, as well as first-time country seekers (like us!). The owner (Alyson) was a fantastic help throughout this process -- very flexible, thoughtful and understanding. We are already looking at our calendar next year to see when we'll be able to return!

We had a wonderful week, and really appreciated the coziness of your place. We especially loved the fireplace - the larger size was awesome!

The cabin worked great (we only used it 2 nights but it was perfect).

Thanks for being easy to work with, all of the details worked out well and we appreciate that. We'll definitely consider coming back in the future.
