We stayed here with two other couples (all early 30s). The location was perfect. Great sandy beach, amazing outdoor dinner deck facing the setting sun, fantastic fire pit area and a great little paddle boat. We loved it. Also, the owners live on the lake which is nice just in case (much better than calling someone who lives in the northern Chicago suburbs when you have an immediate problem).

I would recommend this wonderful cottage to anyone! The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed and more! The water in the lake was so clean and shallow for my children. My 7 year old son caught 23 fish the week we were there. He even used a stick with a line and hook (that George made) and a french fry as bait! The Owners George and Carole were so very nice and helpful! Our A/C was not as cold as we liked (considering the week we went it was 100-104) . George came over with in 15 min of my phone call to him. George said the A/C did need serviced. So on July 4th a holiday (extra cost I'm sure) he had some out to fix it with in the hour! We felt like family visiting their cottage! I will be booking the same vacation next year if not every year to come! We thanks you George for all you did for us! The perfect place for us! There were 8 of us aged one to sixty-two and there was plenty to keep everyone busy! The accommodations were excellent - plenty of space and it was very clean and well stocked with dishes, towels, linens, cooking utensils, beach chairs, water toys. The beach couldn't have been better - a dock and a raft, clean sandy lake bottom that sloped gradually so there was no worry that the youngsters would get out too deep. The owner gave us lots of information about local sites and there were maps and brochures detailing every available attraction in the surrounding area. I would definitely recommend this lake house - our only disappointment was having the paddle boat break down several times, but I trust that it will be fixed or replaced. We will be coming back next summer!

Our extended family of 10 just spent a lovely week at the Heartland Chalet. Everything was exactly as shown in the photos - including the sweet strip of beach we'd been looking forward to, with dock, raft and pedal boat! Not to mention tons of beach toys for the wee ones, and comfy beach chairs for the bookworms.

The kitchen is beautiful and had everything we needed (hurray for a dishwasher!) to make for a comfortable stay. The big screen TV in the game room was appreciated, too!

The owners are very close by, putting out the trash for us, tending the lawn, adjusting the thermostat if needed, and offered excellent suggestions for neighboring jaunts. We spent one afternoon at St. Joe's and enjoyed exploring the children's museum there. And George cued us in to the best specials at the local Keeler Keg, too.

But the wonderful beach was definitely our favorite part of the week!

P.S. They also returned the security deposit in less than a week! Very prompt with every communication and in every regard.

From the moment our family arrived and walked into the Heartland Chalet we were impressed. The lot was wooded with large trees over the house and lots of shade. It's right next to a wooded lot so no neighbors on that side. It was immaculately clean and stocked with everything you could possibly need for a week on vacation. It had recently been remodeled and was beautiful throughout the interior. All we needed were our clothes, toiletries and food. The view of the lake and sunset from the back of the house was amazing. The first thing we did was run down the dock and jump in to swim out to the raft. The sandy beach was very clean, the water very clean and mostly clear of weeds. Our two children (4, 1.5) spent hours each day playing in the sand and wading into the shallow water. It was great swimming out to the raft to relax on. You could easily stay at the house all week and not need to go anywhere else.

The weekend was only moderately busy on the lake with probably less than a dozen watercraft out - a few ski boats, a few waver runners, but mostly pontoon boats. During the week it was so quiet - it was like we had the whole lake to ourselves. We had the option to rent a ski boat or pontoon from a local rental business, but we settled for the free paddle boat and had plenty of fun paddling around the lake and fishing from it. We fished off the dock, paddle boat, and even waist deep in the water and it seemed like there was an endless supply of fish to catch - panfish, largemouth, perch, catfish, etc. The view of the stars at night was like nothing we have ever seen at home. It is a very quiet area. There is a nice walk you can take around the lake as well. All of the neighbors were quiet and considerate. The house was set at a nice comfortable temperature of 74 degrees all week which was perfect for us. We were pleasantly surprised about the lack of bugs during our week of vacation. Also, although it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, there was just a short drive to everything we needed.

The owners were very friendly, open and helpful. They gave lots of advice on local attractions and we went with most of their recommendations and we were not disappointed. They obviously have been doing this a long time. They lived only a few minutes away so were always available to answer a question or two.

We will try our best to make it back next summer.
