About Wayne & Kimberly Pitts

The owners, Kim and Wayne, moved to Albuquerque for graduate school and fell in love with the southwest. After spending three years living in Oaxaca, Mexico, the couple decided to build their first home to raise their two boys. You'll see custom features heavily influenced by their time in Mexico throughout the home.

Their oldest son is currently a student at UNM and the younger one hope to join him soon.

Wayne and Kim completed their doctoral degrees at UNM and their first professional jobs required them to leave the state. Currently, they reside in Research Triangle Park near Raleigh, NC.

Wayne & Kimberly Pitts purchased this house in 2000
Why Wayne & Kimberly Pitts chose Albuquerque

This house is perfectly situated with easy access to I-40. The owners invested in this part of town because they enjoyed the appeal of living in the southwestern quadrant of Albuquerque. It's close to Old Town and there were a lot of nearby attractions for children including the world-class zoo, the aquarium and biopark, the Children's Museum, and the Museum of Natural History. There are also some fantastic New Mexican restaurants nearby.

What makes this house unique

Because we built the home using a custom builder, we were able to add some special features. From the moment you enter the hand-carved front gate in the courtyard to the carved posts on the pergola on the back patio, you will notice the special details of this house. All of the furnishings have a unique history and many were made by Mexican artisans.

In the fall, the smell of roasted green chile fills the air and the home is perfectly situated to enjoy the sights of the Sandia Mountains. Don't be surpised to see a hot air balloon fly directly over the house.

Classic NM architecture with modern comfort and convenience

I can't say enough good things about this rental property. The house itself is well designed and decorated. It has all the things you'll need for your stay. It's an extremely comfortable home to come back to after a long day hiking, visiting museums or sightseeing. The owner is extremely responsive to any questions and was very accommodating when we found out that our return flight home was cancelled. He was the only bright spot in that ordeal.

Anyway, everything about the place is immaculate. It's super close to the main freeways, several grocery stores and Central Ave. As for location, while we didn't hang out in the area during the day, it was a nice retreat to come home to at night. Our only issue was not getting the jets in the tub to work.

My kids loved the place so much they asked if we could permanently move in! Would definitely stay there again if we return to ABQ.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your feedback. We're not sure why the jets didn't work but we'll definitely get them fixed. Thanks for letting us know.

Beautifully Furnished Home

We loved the coziness and comfort of the home, and the beautiful furnishings in every room. Wayne was great at keeping in touch to make sure we got in without any problems. Although the house needed more cleaning when we arrived, and there was a maintenance issue while we were there, both were taken care of very quickly. The neighborhood is also very safe and clean, and several friendly people said hello as were were coming and going over the 4 days we stayed. A great place to eat for authentic hatch chile would be the Western View restaurant about 5-10 minutes away. Family owned for 3 generations, delicious food! Explora Science Center is 10 minutes away and is a good way for the kids and adults to spend a few hours doing something 'active'.

Delightful home away from home

Our family recently stayed in this beautiful, tasteful decorated unique casita over the holidays. The location is perfect close to all highways, it is safe and very very clean! The pictures do not do it justice, very warm and welcoming. The owners Wayne and Kim really went the extra mile for us, waiting until late due to a late flight, checking in and arranging for some groceries to be there when we arrived.
I am a well travelled person and would HIGHLY recommend this home to families!
We loved it and hope to return when the weather is warm. The pictures are true, and the house is larger than it looks.Very good customer service, property well maintained. Close to 140, Petroglyphs and Old town

Completely Comfortable

My husband and I recently stayed for a week at this lovely home, beautifully decorated with art from the southwest, including a fine collection of colorful pottery. The bed was very comfortable, the house was clean and well appointed with all the things you would need or want. The location in Albuquerque and proximity to the highway system made for quick trips to wherever we needed to go.

I had the privilege of being one of the first VRBO.s at this property. I was impressed and very appreciative of the warmth and hospitality of Wayne and Kim. I was even more impressed as I walked through the door of their pueblo style casita. The decor was jaw dropping, they skillfully coupled the native new mexican flair with modern convenience. The quality of the dishes, linens, towels, were superb. The yard is ideal for a small pet, and the doggie door quickly became my dog's highlight of the trip. Great Place to stay!
