The relaxing getaway we were looking for
We found this vecation spot more than 3 years ago and have been back for fall colors, summer greenery, and a cozy winter getaway. A short path through a lovely wooded area leads to the uncrowded beauty of Lake Allegan. I like to take a book or headphones to the comfy private lakeview deck, while other members of my family spend hours at a time in the water. As well as the swimming and boating, we like to fix picnics in the cottage kitchen and take them to the dock or deck.

Best vacation and money spent ever!!!
From the moment we walked into this wonderful, fully equipped cottage we felt right at home. Loving details in every aspect, such as night lights doubled as a if needed flashlight in every room. Upon deciding we wanted to make an apple pie we were missing the cinnamon, when asking the owner if she had some, she indeed did and asked if we needed anything else. Rolling pin would be nice, it was provided. Even though it rained everyday that we were there, the complete comforts of home didn't dim our experience. The kids were able to use the kayaks in between the rainstorms. Campfire one evening, perfect plastic plates in the cupboard, wood provided. I don't think there was anything that we could have asked for, even a dishwasher so no one had K.P. duty, truly a wonderful vacation, beautiful grounds and the fall leaves changing color, WOW. We can't wait to come back. Allegan has many wonderful attractions and just a few minutes to artistic Saugatuck. Oh, and the wonderful fenced area so our 4-legged friends could run and be safe. Think that tells you that they are very welcomed, can't find that just everywhere, we could not have asked for anything more.

Relaxing Vacation!
This past summer my family and I decided to try something different for vacation and rent a cottage. We didn't want to spend a lot of time traveling to our destination and we wanted to be close to Lake Michigan without the expense. Pinecone Cottage met both of these expectations and more. We are a family of six with a dog. The cottage was comfortable, cozy and roomy enough for all. The lake is a little bit of a trek, but very easy to get to and there were plenty of kayaks for all. We enjoyed the quiet surroundings during the day and evening, as well as the campfires (with plenty of wood). The cottage provided everything as listed for my family as well as the dog. I could go on and on. We are hoping to visit again. Thanks Chris and Nancy

Perfect fit for canine and kayak lovers
Our stay was restful, and relaxing in an atmosphere of this clean and updated home. The 'cottage' offers so much more than we imagined at first. Although, the walk to the edge of the lake is down some stairs, I welcomed the exercise. For those who wish to bring along furry family, every convenience has been provided. A large fenced yard for secure home base for the pet, but close to hiking and provided kayaks for trips around the huge lake. If you aren't into groomed, manicured, lawns and want to use the ample back yard for play, cookouts, bonfires, frizbee, crochet or volleyball--this is the place for you. This area offers so much more than just a lake with the history, antiques, farm stands, riverways, and natural habitats. The hosts keep the place up well and are generous to help with any thing you may need.

GREAT, PET FRIENDLY, GETAWAY!!!
We stayed one week at the Pine Cone Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was clean and well-maintained. While we did not do a lot of activities on the lake, it is beautiful and looks to be great for kayaking & swimming. The major plus for us was the large fenced in yard for our 3 dogs - they loved being able to run around in the yard. We travelled to Grand Haven, Saugatuck, Douglas and South Haven - all within a 30-60 minute drive. The owners, Chris and Nancy, were very attentive to our needs and we enjoyed spending some time with both of them. We will definitely be recommending this property to our friends and family. Thanks again, Chris and Nancy, for making your cottage available to us and our pups!!

Perfect Getaway
Our two chubby dogs took their "mom" and "dad" on vacation this year to this charming cottage near Allegan. We knew nothing of the area except some information obtained online. Although we packed jackets, the second week of October brought daytime highs of 70 and clear, sunny skies. While compact, the cottage was clean, comfortable, easy to maintain and offered a huge deck, grill and fire pit, as well as the clean, secure and wooded dog yard that allowed the dogs plenty of room. Everything we needed was there, including clean-up products and equipment. This is a perfect location for kicking back. We explored Allegan and found a lovely deli, expansive grocery store and wonderful farmers' market. Orchards, blueberry farms, wineries and a state forest offer tons of "winding down" activities. Our hosts Chris & Nancy were most welcoming and attentive to our needs. The cottage is located on a busy highway, and while we noticed the traffic, it did not interrupt our enjoyment. We will return. Thanks for the perfect week.

Great Property - Had A Wonderful Time!
This is the type of cottage I wish I owned and could visit on weekends. It's not pretentious or large like some of the others on the same road. It's cozy, rustic and feels perfectly secluded. It's even a certified wildlife habitat!
We chose the property specifically for the pet amenities and its proximity to Holland, where we had events to attend. It was truly perfect for pets and the owners have thought of many great details to make your stay comfortable. We especially loved the lofted upstairs room with skylights, nightlights with removable flashlights in each room, the large firepit, the hammock, and the deluxe gas grill. I can't comment on the lake/kayaks since it was too cold and windy for us to get out on the lake this late in the fall season, but it looked lovely.
Everything about the cottage was warm and inviting and the owners were a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Pine Cone Cottage to anybody! My only advice for city dwellers is to be prepared for darkness as you have never known it before! By the second night I was used to it, but I was a little terrified on that first night. You should definitely not watch episodes of Criminal Minds or CSI before your stay if you have an active imagination like me. Ha ha. = )

Owner's Response: The great thing about the dark nights in the country is that you can see the stars more brightly and you pay more attention to the many pleasant night sounds. Soon you want less light pollution and appreciate the shadows cast by the full moon.

Dog Heaven!
Our stay over Memorial Day weekend was great. Although the cottage is somewhat close to the road, the fenced-in yard and beautiful wooded path to the lake were perfect for them. We had the best time kayaking on Lake Allegan, and enjoyed that we could go into Allegan or Douglas for shopping, eating, etc.
Chris, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful, and her cottage does have what one would expect and MORE for a comfortable stay.
I would definitely recommend Pine Cone Cottage.

Great Escape
Best of both worlds, quiet get away in a beautiful wooded setting, acess to the lake even though our visit was in early summer and it was a little to cool to swim yet. The cabin was very clean and our wonderful hosts thought of everything we might need in the way of paper products, spices and cookware as well as a laundry. Close to major tourists areas, near shopping and groceries, the dogs loved the freedom of the fenced in yard. We look forward to our next visit.

Fabulous Vacation with Dogs!
We really wanted to go on vacation with our dogs and were delighted with the Pine Cone Cottage. There was plenty of room for them to play and a large fenced in yard kept them safe. The cottage was very clean and had everything that we could want to make our week without having to pack a truck load. The area is very peaceful and close to great towns. Lot's to do or do nothing. What a great week! Take a kayak out first thing in the morning for a fantastic veiw and a wonderful way to start the day.
