Go back in time and relax riverside at “Chiwa Lodge,” nestled on five acres with 150 feet of pristine Yakima River frontage. Chiwa (pronounced chee way) is a Yakama word for the trout that inhabit the river, sharing the environment with salmon, deer, elk, beaver, river otter, and a extensive variety of birds. The lodge’s unique architectural design salutes local history with storefront facades echoing the frontier coal mining town of Roslyn, just miles away.

Featured in Pacific magazine and Mountain Living magazine, the home,showcases family and local memorabilia and pieces of furniture-art designed and built by the owner. The main lodge and a guest cottage, linked by a “boardwalk” deck running the length of the two structures, make Chiwa a great getaway for 2 or more families.

Tastefully decorated in a hunting and fishing theme, the main lodge boasts 3 Bedrooms and 2 ½ baths in 2,000 square feet. In the 24x32 foot great room, your evenings will center around the two story river rock fireplace and leisurely dinners and rousing board games at the long teak dining table which seats 14. (Or gather around the outdoor fire pit for fish tales and a barbecue!)

The guest cottage is a studio with a private bathroom and provides an additional 500 sq ft of living space. In the main house the 3 bedrooms are equipped with 1 King, 1 Queen, and 3 Twins including a set of bunk beds. The guest cottage offers 1 Queen plus two couches.

A separate TV room in the main house sports a 47 inch flatscreen TV with DVD player. Other amenities include an IPod Player, and a gas BBQ. The master bathtub includes jacuzzi jets for a relaxing massage after a day outdoors. The kitchen is fully equipped for the most ambitious meal preparation.

From the front door of the lodge, a 100 foot stroll through majestic evergreens will take you to the scenic banks of the river for water sports and foot fishing. For drift boaters, the lodge is conveniently located between the Nelson Siding (Bullfrog Road) put-in and the take-out in South Cle Elum.

Chiwa Lodge is a 75 minute drive from downtown Seattle, 30 minutes from the Summit Ski Area on Snoqualmie Pass, and even closer to golf at Sun Country Golf Course or Suncadia Resort. In 30 minutes east bound, you are in Ellensburg for Jazz in the Valley, the Ellensburg Rodeo, and other attractions. For history buffs, a visit to Roslyn (setting for the Northern Exposure TV series) must include the unique cemetery and the Coal Miner’s Museum. Other local attractions include the Burlington Northern Railroad museum in South Cle Elum, and the Telephone Museum and the historical Carpenter House in Cle Elum.

Fishing, swimming, bird-watching, reading, gaming, golfing, touring, hiking, and skiing can all be enjoyed at or near this riverside paradise. We were so impressed with the location, setting, general appearance and comfort of Chiwa Lodge, we are already talking about returning in the warmer weather. We were very comfortable, the kids had a fabulous time in the snow, the men loved the TV so they could watch the playoff game and we all loved the large kitchen table. Great place.

We had a wonderful time. Both the main house and the guest house were quaint and comfortable, right down to the beds. The handmade furniture and family items give the place much character. Another couple joined us for the last two nights and it was nice just relaxing by the river rock fire place....loved that. The weather was perfect and we wanted to play croquet...couldn't find a set and looked in town to no avail. We bought horseshoes instead. Occasionally, we heard free-way noise, but that is the case with most places by the river. We plan to stay again to enjoy the early fall season, and we are very much looking forward to it.

We took Mom & Dad, and adult kids with their small children as a Christmas gift to my parents. We do this every year with a different place to go to. This was a perfect place for all of us as we wanted to be close to Roslyn, WA where my Croatian relatives started out in America. My Dad was thrilled to have us visit the Roslyn Cemetery where our folks are buried and get the history behind it. Chiwa Lodge let us enjoy both in doors and the outdoors. It was a beautiful weekend with everyone happy to be at a place where we could all gather around the huge table together. The Lodge more than met our needs.

The Chiwa lodge was a wonderful experience for us and our family. We had 12 people there from 4 families and everyone was able to have their own space and privacy. There weren't as many beds as we expected for sleeping 12, but there were pads and cots. The lodge was beautiful, with a gorgeous central fireplace that kept us cozy all week. The kitchen and large dining room table were perfect for our large group. The privacy of the cabin itself in the woods was also wonderful. The only drawback there is that we expected riverfront property and there is actually a thick forest between the cabin and river so you can't see it or simply walk to it from the house.

We had a fabulous time at Chiwa Lodge. The spacious cabin made a perfect place for our adult children, gradnchildren and us. There were three separate sleeping areas which made the stay so pleasant. The huge kitchen table was the center of activity for Christmas cookie baking, art projects, games and wonderful meals. The river is beautiful and so close to the house. We loved everything about this palce and hope to use it again in the future. Thanks for a very special place to welcome in a new decade!!!

Our lives are SO crazy and it was absolutely blissful to hang out in this very cool cabin, playing card games at night, cooking large meals together and spending the day floating on the river. 3 days of nothing but R&R. Absolutely loved the location and
the hammock has to be THE most comfortable hammock in the world.... : )
