House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Have you ever dreamed of living in your very own sand~castle by the sea? If so, we have the perfect place for you!

The majestic Casa Playa Maya is a stunning 3 bedroom 3 bathroom villa, located at arguably the best Caribbean beach in all of Costa Maya, Puerto Angel. It's inticing castlelike facade grows out of the sugar fine white sand as the gentle waves, crystal clear waters and coconut palms complete the scene to help make this dramatic beach home an ideal vacation destination.

Tall glass doors line the entire beach side of this home on the ground floor, allowing you to step out onto your tiled terrace from any room, with an uninterrupted view of the lapping waves and turquoise water. The main level features a fully equipped spacious kitchen, complete with a full sized refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave, numerous small appliances, walk-in pantry, tiled countertop which seats four leading to the dining room, with seating for six. The beautifully variegated warm-toned hardwood table and chairs were locally handcrafted and not only serve as a perfect dining station, but they also create a wonderful place for playing cards, dominos or board games which we have provided for your enjoyment.

An adjacent great room with a vaulted ceiling and large upper windows give an atrium~like ambiance and offers panoramic views up and down the Caribbean coastline from anywhere in the room. Locally made 'contemporary mission style' furniture provides comfortable seating for your entire group and the oversized sofa makes a great place for a breezy indoor sea-side 'siesta'.

Around the corner, the downstairs king bedrooms' sliding glass doors open to a beach view that seems to invite the outside in, making it feel as though you are actually sleeping on the beach! Your walk in closet has plenty of hanging, drawer & shelf space including a personal safe. The attached spacious bathroom is beautifully decorated with traditional Mexican tiles.

Down the hallway, a sizable tile-shelved laundry room provides not only storage for an array of beach toys, masks, floats and more, it also becomes an ideal spot for hanging your bathing suits, wet suits, snorkel gear & beach towels to dry. An ample utility room also serves as your recycling center and 2 generous closets house additional comforts such as extra linens, towels & bedding, books & games, plastic patio table & chairs for 6, fishing equiptment, portable playpen, air mattresses & hammocks.

The design of this beach home allows for the sea breeze to freely flow throughout the entire home, providing your haven with a fresh and airy feel. On the rare occasions that the air seems still, ceiling fans throughout the casa will help to keep you comfortable, even in this tropical climate.

Head up the gorgeous centrally located staircase to find the TV lounge area which overlooks the great room and has exquisite views of the beach. A duplicate set of the Mayan~made sofa, love-seat, chair & tables make this common area the perfect place for watching movies, playing games, reading a good book or even streaming free online television from your personal HDMI laptop computer. This room can also be used as an additional sleeping area with air beds and is especially great for kids.

Leading off on either side of the lounge, you will find a king~sized master bedroom suite with a large closet which has built in drawers, shelves, a personal safe & plenty of hanging space. Each bedroom has it’s own delightfully tiled 3/4 bath on the west end of the room & to the east, sliding doors face the Caribbean Ocean leading you out onto your very own covered balcony, a perfect place to wake up with your favorite cup of coffee or tea and a romantic spot to catch a memorable moonbeam or shooting star show before turning in after a day of pure pleasure.

Another favorite place to be in this gorgeous beach home is on the rooftop!

Accessible from the upper lounge, ascend the 'caracol' to a breathtaking delight. Stretch out on comfy cozy cushions topping the built-in concrete sofas under the dappled shade of the lanai or swing in your hammock in the sunshine of this outdoor living area offering privacy, amazing breezes and fabulous bird watching. This wonderfully serene space also makes a great place for practicing yoga, tai chi and meditation, as well as affording sun~seekers the opportunity to even out their tan lines in peace. From this picturesque perch, expect sublime sunrise vistas of the Caribbean coastline boasting birdseye views of the world famous Mesoamerican Reef to the east, but not to be topped by the gorgeous landscapes and peaceful sunsets over the mystical Mayan jungle to the west.

This eco-friendly home is completely off the grid so it enjoys the use of solar power with a back up propane fueled generator, propane also fuels the stove & hot water tank. Casa Playa Maya's water is collected in an underground cistern and is replenished with rain water. For these reasons, we ask you to be mindful of the situation by turning off ceiling fans & lights when leaving a room, unplugging your laptop computer & cell phones when fully charged, utilizing opportunities to conserve water whenever possible, and so on. Our solar system is very efficient and has proven to be more than adequate for most scenerios, however there may be times when overcast conditions deem it necessary to utilize the generator to charge the batteries. Don't worry, shifting into 'eco~mode' is not really hard at all & we are happy to provide you with helpful hints and tips to become super [solar] empowered, if you would like! Many visitors here enjoy the calm that comes with the soft glow of candlelight dining and relaxing after the sun goes down, but knowing you have a system that can handle watching tv, playing on your computer and utilizing the ceiling fans and lighting well after dark, is always a comfort.

We are thrilled to be able to offer this amazing fantasy by the sea with a 1, 2 or 3 bedroom option. You will have all of the aforementioned areas and will simply rent 1, 2 or 3 king bed/bath combos as your party requires. With the 3 bedroom selection, all of Casa Playa Maya is included as described and this is also our handicapped/wheelchair accessibility option. If you find that your party only needs a 2/2, you would be renting both of the bedrooms on the second story & with the 1 bedroom rental, you'll enjoy your sweet dreams in the upstairs~north boudoir.

We arrived at Casa Playa Maya, after a long flight and an even longer drive, late in the evening, but were greeted by two wonderful people - Amanda and Richard. They cooked us a much needed and delicious meal that night of local lobster. What a wonderful way to start our vacation! There were 6 of us (4 adults and 2 little kids), and it was perfect. They provided us with a pack 'n play for our littlest, and an air mattress for the 2.5 year old. The house was clean and beautiful. The pictures don't do it justice! The beach, that is right in front, is spectacular! The ocean blue and warm. Amanda and Richard were wonderful hosts and were there when we needed, but also gave us privacy and space that made the home feel like ours. They let us know about the trucks that come by with fresh fruit and veggies, so we were always stocked with delicious food and since our family likes to cook we made fresh meals almost daily. The town is a sweet and bumpy ride along the beach, about 20 min. and there are delicious restaurants there as well serving fresh fish. The sand and beach and water were perfect for us and our little ones. My eldest (now 3), keeps saying she wants to go back to Mexico. And so do I! I seriously hope we can return soon! Thank you Amanda and Richard for your wonderful energy and making our time there easy and fun! We hope to see you all again!

If you want seclusion, being 31 steps (we counted!) from the ocean, 3 lovely bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and a rooftop for sunsets, this is the house for you. Our two weeks were so relaxing, filled with amazing snorkeling, swimming, kayaking and fishing. I love sunrise beach walks and with only one house to the south, I had more than my fill of peace. We enjoyed wonderful snorkeling close to the house, as well as to Banco Chinchorro, and found that hiring a guide allowed us to explore some beautiful reefs outside Xcalak. Amanda gave us great tips on shopping and I loved going to the tiny groceries in Mahahual where if you don't see something, just ask and it will appear. The fruits, veggies and fresh fish were so tasty. One day 2 locals passed by heading out to catch lobster, and Lori communicated that we'd love some, so that night's dinner consisted of more lobster than the 6 of us could eat. Yum. Drive inland and theres a mayan ruin and the town of Bacalar to enjoy. Be sure to stop at the roadside shop Amanda suggests for sauces and honey, all excellent gifts to take home. If lots of nightlife and bustle is what you're looking for, stay in the Cancun-Tulum area, but if you like to truly experience a place with serenity and seclusion, and a Mexico you won't forget, you'll love this house. And thank you, Amanda and Richard, for all you did to make our stay enjoyable, it was a magical vacation.

We travelled to Mahahual and Casa Playa Maya from Montana and found an amazing property with everything we hoped for during our 10 day stay. The house was perfect for 3 couples and the beach was 31 steps from the casa. We loved relaxing in the hammocks, walking the beach, enjoying the sunsets from the rooftop and the fabulous snorkeling right in front of the property, which feels private and safe. We highly recommend Victor Castro at Osprey Tours in Xcalak for birding and snorkeling. You won't be dissappointed. Banco Chichorro is well worth the adventure for the snorkeling adventure of a lifetime. Richard and Amanda were wonderful hosts. Being off the grid was non problematic and we are grateful to have enjoyed Mexico and it's beauty.

A Tropical Paradise

Our family of 6 just enjoyed an amazing week at Casa Playa Maya over the New Year week. The home, location and hosts not only met the listing description and photos, but far exceeded our expectations.

The lovely home was clean and well-maintained with spacious windows and sliders, each with breathtaking views of the stunning Caribbean Sea. The kitchen was well-eqiupped with everything we needed to prepare meals. The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of bedding, towels, etc to accommodate our entire family. The grounds were well cared for as well.

Living in an eco-home presented few challenges and was a fantastic experience for the family, raising our awareness of how much electricity and water we consume and the amount of waste we generate. The kids grumbled a few times, but honestly, having them involved in family conversations rather than having their eyes glued to a television or their devices was wonderful! And we were still able to connect to the outside world with the wifi service.

The location was truly a tropical paradise! Most of the time, we felt we had the beach and coastline all to ourselves, with only an occasional beach walker or snorkeler. The crystalline waters of the Caribbean Sea were perfect for swimming, playing in the waves, kayaking, snorkeling... and always the perfect temperature for it all. You could walk the beach for miles and miles and miles and discover all kinds of sea treasures along the way.

The charming town of Mahahual is about 14 km away (the ride there is an adventure in itself) and offers great eats, shopping, activities, excursions, groceries, etc... the people are warm and friendly and it feels quite safe.

Casa Maya Playa's caretakers are not only amazing hosts, but extraordinary human beings. They went out of their way to ensure our visit was enjoyable and we had everything we needed. Their recommendations for dining, shopping and activities were invaluable and spot-on (particularly Nohoch Kay Beach Club and Papi's Pizza).

I can't thank them enough for making each member of our family feel welcomed and for helping to make this one of our best family vacations, ever! So, needless to say, I would highly recommend this property... and cannot wait until we can return!

I would highly recommend this home and location to anyone wishing to relax in a peaceful, luxurious, off the beaten path place. My family of 5 was more than comfortable. There are hammocks and beach loungers, plenty of options for kayaking, beach soccer, snorkeling, sand castle building. You can eat inside with a big table and bar or outside under the stars, drinks on the rooftop. All bedrooms have a balcony and look out over the ocean with private bathroom. Kitchen was well equipped, gas stove, big fridge. The snorkeling was amazing- giant brain coral, big schools of fish right out your door. The body surfing was good too! Mahahual is fun and offers lots of dining choices and activities. Highly recommend Chaccoben/ Bacalar as a day trip. We saw fox, firefly's, numerous colored birds, crabs, herds of goats, deer and some unknown larger mammal. Amanda and Richard were the BEST!
Very helpful on recommendations(spot on) and keeping everything running smooth. Rarely do you find this private location with such a wonderful home on a great beach like this. I would go back in a minute!

This is a nice place to spend a week, two or three. I stayed 3 on my own and couldn't get enough. Days can go by very quickly. Morning snorkelling before breakfast its the best way to start everyday, the coral reef is literally in your front yard, all family can safely go. There is always something different to see and explore, the water temperature is great throughout the year.
The Internet connection has no issues so I was able to keep up with my work while being in a paradise-like area. Its a fully functional house with all modern services, so its juts as comfortable as being home but with the turquoise Caribbean ocean a few yards away.
The rooftop at sunset time is a must everyday.
Town is 20 minutes away by car so its easy to get everyday supplies or going to small restaurant.
There is only one other house nearby, but it feels like you are the only house in miles around, not quite true but the feeling is that, all that space is for you only to enjoy.
Very peaceful, great for creative people, great for holiday but also great for working.
You have to mind that you are "in the wild", its no insects or animals free (who would want that anyway?), so there are very interesting creatures to see, in land and under the water, where its actually packed of life!
So yeah, great experience, I might go back again if I can, I hoping to do so in the next year or two.
Cheers!

Owner's Response: We were thrilled to have your enthusiasm & great attitude just days after Hurricane Ernesto hit Costa Maya! We were concerned that the snorkeling would not be that great so soon after the storm, but we are so happy that you had the chance to see so much of the amazing sea~life in our front yard! I must admit, that I am a tiny bit jealous & am still searching for the school of squid that you saw out there!

I am also grateful that we were able to get our high~speed internet connection up and running right away, knowing that you were coming here with the intentions of working as well as re-generating in this incredible spot of the planet! I believe that we were one of the few folks in all of Costa Maya who were so fortunate to have had gotten back on~line so soon, Honey's talents never cease to amaze me!

About the rooftop, that has always also been a favorite hang~out of ours, in the "lounge", hammocks or on yoga mats. I call it "The Nest" because it is such a great bird~observatory. So many different, colorful & beautiful birds are flying around right at eye-level & they seem to not even notice that you are there! We're very glad that you were staying close enough to home most of the time, to be able to enjoy the fabulous sunsets nightly!

We are so glad that you were not too bothered by the "chaquistes" {aka the "itty~bittys" or "teeny~tinys"} & that you were able to write & be inspired, while enjoying the solitude & beauty of this lovely home & it's setting. Those guys seemed to be around more heavily than usual in the wake of Ernesto & they also seemed to be particularly fond of you! You will be pleased to know that we have discovered a local eco~friendly gardener who has been treating the area to keep the pests down to a minimum & it has been working like a charm! Yay!

Thank you very much for your kind words & for being so respectful to the Casa & to our environment here where the Mayan Jungle meets the always beautiful "El Caribe"! We hope to be fortunate enough to see you again, after you finish your studies abroad! Please know that we will welcome you back with open arms!

Until then, don't forget to ... dream BIG ... live LARGE !!! :)
